I actually found pure acetone at Walmart! Go to the section where they have the nail polish removers and you might find these bottles of "professional" polish remover. It's designed to be able to remove fake nails as well as regular nail polish. I got a 473 ml/16 fl. oz. bottle of Onyx Professional Remover 100% Acetone and I've already tried it on a doll. The paint came right off with no smudging. I think it was around $5 CAD.

One more tip for working with MSC (and I know this should be a given, but not everyone thinks of it): Don't ever stand downwind when spraying MSC. I made this mistake my first time using it and ended up with a lungful and eyeful of chemical spray. Not a pleasant day.

AAAAAAA this is the best thank you so much for making this video. I've been wanting to do a repaint of some monster high dolls for awhile now but I've been so nervous because it always seems like there's either a lot of materials, or materials that are too bulky like the spray guns, or even just too expensive like wwwow I work a just-over min. wage job it's hard to look at it all and feel like I have the space or money for it. But this makes me feel a lot better about going into it because most of this looks very affordable, and very much doable in smaller spaces (save for the spraying but that's what driveways are for!! yay!), so I feel much less intimidated by the whole process. I'm really excited to start making repaints now, so thank you again for the video and all the helpful advice, and even the list in the description o3o keep up the great work!!!

Well I like that you do work on a budget, but still have gorgeous, high quality work. From watching many other artists, I seriously thought I would need an airbrusher for sealant & color, gauche paints, and very expensive pastels, but your work, like your tinkerbell doll, looks better than 90% of the other artists dolls. And you make accessories and beds as well which is amazing ^^ i can't get over your channel haha.

I always sharpen the tips of my Derwent pencils with a Stanly knife after I sharpened it with my pencil sharpener. I just softly scrape over the tip away from the pencil not touching the wood part. Because the pencils are so soft you can make them really pointy and sharp that way! If you find that technique a bit scary you can also buy pencil sandpapers. But I must admit they don't really work for me. Anyway, keep up the good work, I love your style!

I got pure acetone from Home Depot. It's a giant can and it looks pretty intimidating to use. Surely makes me more careful! It's such an improvement from nail polish remover. It removes it so much quicker and without many smudges. MSC is a lot better than using watered down varnish for sealant. Both of these are really good investments for doll custumization, at least in my opinion. :D

I don't know if this is still helpful but I got this recipe for a homemade paint remover and found it to work quite well. I make dolls of a different kind but I am sure this will work for you too... Hope this helps some people 💗 Pour 2 cups room temperature water into a dish and add 1 cup borax, 1 cup ammonia and 1 cup washing soda (found with laundry detergents in any supermarket). Mix thoroughly until you have a consistent creamy paste, then brush over the paint with this mixture.

I am going to customise my Rapunzel doll into the female member of Organization XIII (not Xion because I am going to be using either Apple of Holly o Hair for her) Won't be removing the factory paint because the eyes are just the right size for the characters, still thinking of either using Barbie or Cinderella for Aqua, because if I use Barbie then I would have to remove her factory lipstick as Aqua doesn't show her teeth in Kingdom Hearts only when she talks. I have a question what Mod Podge should I use to mix with the acrylic paint, Matt or Gloss? I have already got the Barbie doll so she might be Aqua. Might use Poppy or Blondie for Namine who do you think I should use?
@HeXtian9 жыл бұрын
amanogirl1 The mod podge depends on how you want it to look acrylics also have matte and gloss versions too so yeah it depends on what youre going to paint. well, namine has blonde hair, so maybe Blondie. I think Apple has a more accurate hair color though :D
@amanogirl19 жыл бұрын
I have matt acrylics. Yeah Blondie should be Namine, but I am going to order some blonde hair from the net to get the hair colour that is the same match for her hair. Apple might be good for Xion because both have pale skin. Now who should I use for Kari Holly or Poppy?

Before I can start repainting, I'm told that I should defiantly get a primer/sealant (aka) MSC. So just a quick question, how toxic is it exactly?
@HeXtian8 жыл бұрын
+Quizeekimo it is very toxic. i would not spray it inside the house and try not to breathe it in when spraying outside. I wear a mask of hold my breath LOL

For people in the USA, you can get pure acetone at Walmart, Target and Sally Beauty Supply.

OH WOW! Thanks for uploading a vid with your materials! I think I have a can of that Matte spray somewhere.. :O!! I've always wanted to customize dolls but held off because buying MSC made me nervous. I am so shocked to realize I am NOT subscribed to you! Fixing that right now. n___n
