"It doesn't matter what you do, someone in the community is going to have an opinion about the way that you're playing this game." Damn, you got me. I've been very vocal about my hate for streamers, about elitists, about min/maxers... about how EVERYONE that isn't playing the game like me is hurting the game. You made me hold a mirror up to myself, and looking in, I see that I'm just a different KIND of elitist... and my attitude isn't doing the game any favors either. You've humbled me.

The playerbase of Classic is steadily decreasing. Lots of realms went from full to medium or even low population, while retail actually feels like it gained players instead of losing them. Even some people in my guild started appreciating retail more after Classic came out. So vanilla already served its purpose. To show people that it is actually worse and more boring than BfA.
@BenderdickCumbersnatch
@BenderdickCumbersnatch 5 жыл бұрын
@John Rock That sounds exactly like what Classic hardcore fans who still play would say. I guess that's what happens when you only talk to the people who are on your Classic servers. But those people who really do prefer classic are not a representative population of all WOW players. Classic bores me to death, and even Asmongold made a video recently where he said it's so fucking basic and easy and boring. Zero-mechanic raid bosses. Single-spell spamming classes. Most classes being beyond broken with only having 1 viable spec, if lucky. The illusion of choice with the terrible talent trees where the choices are so easy that I literally always make my own talents just by reading tooltips and guessing what would be most optimal, and then I go and look at actual theorycrafting guides and see that my choices were identical. I've only ever been off by maybe 1-2 talents, and those were the optional/variation talents. :-P The same problem exists in retail. There's only 1 way to spec. But retail does have more impactful talents and there are often 2 or even 3 viable choices per tier. All in all, there's so much more to do on retail, and the raids and M+ are harder than anything has EVER been in classic. Anyone who believes otherwise must suck at WoW. Classic is ultra-easy.
@BenderdickCumbersnatch
@BenderdickCumbersnatch 5 жыл бұрын
@John Rock Well okay that is the one thing I like about classic. Its charming simplicity. :P But running the same dungeons over and over in Classic, because there's nothing else to do, isn't fun... The journey to 60 is the most fun Classic has to offer... like being a hunter, exploring the world, taming beasts, finding new skills from various beasts, doing quests and actually exploring the world... that's the cool part. That's why it's so nuts that people are all speedrunning to 60. And at 60, they only thing left in the game is a bunch of repetitive dungeons and easy raids. Staring at the same things endlessly. That's why Asmongold recently said that he hates Classic... At least in retail, when you're bored, you just go chill with some pokemon battling (in dungeons, or vs the world, or vs other player), or go for achievements and mounts, or archaeology (cool tools and toys), or do old raids for cool looking transmog gear, or explore all continents and their quests, or play the auction house game to get filthy rich and pay your WoW sub that way, etc... Or go for extremely hard Mythic+ or endgame raids... There's so much to do in retail WoW. And for everyone who complains about the "lack" of community: Join a guild. Have fun with friends. Join discord while you play. Play with them instead of randoms. There's tons of social people in the game, and the social aspect is what _you_ make of it. Likewise, people complaining about LFR/LFD tools for instant dungeons are missing the point. Those are child-versions of the dungeons. The actually hard versions of the dungeons/raids can ONLY be done with skilled friends (guild), communication and coordination. And what about lore? Well, modern WoW is waaaay more evolved. The classic world feels kinda pathetic and dead. The retail world is populated with epic events and questlines and cinematics. The game making and storytelling has evolved since 2004. What do I dislike about the modern WoW? Only one thing... The randomized loot, which is more like Diablo 3 loot (random attributes) than an MMO loot. There are still unique items with unique abilities and designs, but overall there is too much randomly generated gear. They need to get that shit out of the game and start designing items individually with flavor again. That is the only complaint I have about the game.

Honestly I think the launch of Classic wow gave us something very special and unique which lasted a short amount of time but really hit us all really hard. Even though it's a bit sad that it didn't stay that way, I really am thankful that Blizzard gave us that chance to feel like our old dumb teenage selves once more, even if for a short time. The launch of classic was something I definitely will never forget and, maybe in a way it was the closure we all needed to accept that, now it's time to move on after getting to experience that magical feeling one last time. I managed to reach max level in classic, which was something I could never reach as a kid and.. well in a weird way I feel fulfilled. Love you all, keep up the good work Zack, always enjoyed your stream and vids.

Goal oriented players, that's the main factor why the experience is different, I agree here. Games are taken much more seriously now and more competitive than it used to be 10 years ago. Back in the days you'd group up to kill an elite that wasn't even your quest mob, causd you had no idea what you'd get in terms of loot since you haven't done it before. And that's how you make friends. Nowadays you group to be 1 step closer to your goal and other people in the group are treated as tools to getting their and that's fine, that's how we play nowadays, cause multiplayer is a very common concept now. It wasn't back in the days that's why every in-game encounter mattered, and you knew the baddest motherfuckers on your servers name by name.

@@SacredCASHcow I think you are missing the point actually, you could play classic the old way but it's almost impossible now. Efficiency and speed has been a part of the vast majority of new games for years now. This mentality has been ingrained in most of the design of newer games. If you play a lot of games from the 2010's the mentality of "efficiency and speed" has been hammered into our brains that sub-consciously most gamers think this way when playing a game. Why wouldn't this translate over to an mmo? It is a lot harder to avoid this mentality in mmo's since people will use it on you and expect the same mentality from you. A failure to think this way often means exile from the group and/or activity. I can vouch that many communities of new mmo's and mmo lite's are like this(aka Destiny and Warframe).
@daicaghund3587
@daicaghund3587 4 жыл бұрын
@@younghegelian4815 I would have to say this efficiency and speed thing hasn't changed at all. It has always been present. From games in the 90's to now. I would say game design itself certainly emphasizes that now but anyone can impose that decision on themselves though it is tougher in a social game. The problem is that focus has gotten to the point now where the experience sucks sometimes. The journey seems to have been forgotten. For as long as I have played games I typically approached games that way once I understood the systems. Society as a whole is trying to do more in a day than we could possibly have done 20 years ago, before smartphones and the internet etc. No doubt the ease of accessing information in general has changed dramatically and is MUCH faster than it used to be and that for sure has modified peoples perspectives across the board. You without doubt can still play Classic however you please. It is certainly still possible to take your time and not worry about efficiency. Its a self imposed metric, not just in WoW but in any game. Same as a single player game. People don't NEED to play efficiently. That play style is a choice. More people prefer to now, or so it appears and the perception now is that any other approach is time wasted. Thankfully that isn't the entire community. Games, just as movies and any other form of entertainment, are supposed to be that. Entertainment. You decide how you consume it. You certainly do not have to play how everyone else wants to. Diablo 2 was a great example of that. Players would try synergy builds just to see how well you could pull off a throw barb for example. There was always the most time efficient builds. Just as there is now. The min/max, efficiency is all that matters perspective has certainly had some negative impact on the game in that those who are focused solely on how fast they can get something done usually dominate those who just want to enjoy the game or experience etc.This comes from someone who looks at it both ways. I love the journey, but in the case of WoW, I cant help but focus on efficiency. Listening to this video as I type this and Asmond sounds like he is making a similiar point at I am guessing 17 minutes. in that regard I have to say SacredCASHcow is absolutely right. Wow Classic is NOT focused on speed and efficiency and it never will be. Retail is.

I've been playing classic wow very casually, exploring and taking my time; pretty much "the classic wow experience." 6 days playtime so far starting from classic wow's launch at lvl 39 on my first character. it's nice to take it easy, but it gets very lonely since a lot of other people are already focused on raiding and pvp content and most people that are leveling with me now are just alt accounts that are dungeon grinding. It doesn't feel like there are many new/returning players coming in anymore without the intent of solely wanting to get to the endgame.

Wow Classic is like that first album you got into. You bought the tshirt, you read the lyrics to each song, you identified with it, saw the band perform it live, and it’s still a staple in your collection. Then the band released a few more albums, some members left, and some new members came in, and while you still like them a lot, it’s just not that classic first record that originally struck a chord with you. Then the original lineup gets back together after 15 years and they’re going to go on tour.. you of course go because you want to be there, and yeah, they can still get the job done, but....

I agree with a lot that was said here but there's something I just want to point out anyway. The game was definitely romanticized to an insane degree, but I personally just like the fundamental differences in design of the game then with later WoW expansions. It's not just nostalgia it's that I actually think it's more fun. I enjoy how gear works and pvp gear which is completely different nowadays the gear felt more unique and simpler. I enjoy having to read the quests and figure out what I'm doing or where I'm going. I don't think the game is difficult but you definitely have to pay more attention to pulls and the investment into the game determines the reward not the challenge necessarily.( I also like one difficulty raids and dungeons and the leveling ) The classes also feel way more unique no one can deny that. It's the dated aspects of the game that are so appealing to me and people have tried to clone these ideas in "old school MMOs." There's also a vast amount of content to complete realistically but it feels simpler then current WoW and I like that. I like when the content is all rolled out I can essentially "beat the game" on a character and that would still take forever. And you can roll alts to do it again. That's why I think it's so genius to re release this version because you don't even need to update it I think it would still persist for years to come even with out like Classic+. Which would be interesting to see content added to this version of the game but I don't know
@Emeronite
@Emeronite 5 жыл бұрын
Classic+ would basically defeat the purpose of Classic, they are better off with a TBC and WOTLK server. That being said they can improve the current retail version of wow to be more like classic so in that regard you'll never run out of content and still can get the classic feel

The games great because for me there is a clear, long term goal to which I can focus on, a goal of making a name for myself. Every night I can get on and know there are 15-30 other like minded people waiting to hang out, talk shit, and grind in game for hours doing PVE or PVP content. I don't believe the game is any different vs what I knew in vanilla, in fact I would go so far as to say I'm having the exact same experience, but through the eyes of a man 15 years older. Midway through vanilla we all knew what was to come with Naxx and how good gear was. We theory crafted and speculated what was BiS and had a reasonable fair rotations for Tier lot and a silent bidding system for off set items that used DKP (worked well enough). I was a try hard and was pushing content while grinding HWL gaming the system and making pacts with the other groups. And here we are 15 years later, doing the same thing, with new people. Its the same game and I absolutely love that

I appreciated this commentary :) I am a first time WoW player, and was convinced to try Classic. I like to think that while I may not have the classic 2006 experience, to me, it feels like a "Classic" experience, as the addons and videos do help me optimize, the game itself still challenges me. It takes longer to level and to make gold compared to other games which makes a huge change for me :) The sheer size of the world is great too. Being busy in school a lot too helps me feel less of a fast track experience in the game too. I LOVE fishing...it's a unique system xD

Server sizes and the lack of GMs have killed it for me. When I played Vanilla I remember a group of Horde camping a flightpath for about 30 minutes once. Someone complained to a GM, he turned up and told them something like, "You've had your fun guys but this is going too far, now scram." One Horde was teleported somewhere and the others ran. I feel like if these raids camping every flightpath happened back then then GMs would've done something about it like they already used to on a smaller scale. Blizzard has been way too hands off with Classic.

What was epic about vanilla 15 years ago were the first moments of things we experienced. I remember when I went to Darkshore for the first time, Azshara etc. The music, the combat, dungeons etc. Even thinking of countless hours I've spent in dead mines, I get instant chills. You cannot relive those experiences. You cannot meet the same people again, create same friendships again. The fact that all of us initially sucked and that we had no expectations of the game was what made the experience great. It was a true exploration experience. Every new zone I visited, every new skills I gained, every new dungeon I finished, everything was brand new. Not just brand new in the context of WoW but for majority of us back then, WoW was the first MMO we played. We didn't have websites to check loot, to check most optimal ways to get somewhere, we didn't know whats coming. And that was exciting. You are killing some world boss, some rare or whatever, you have no idea what's gonna drop. All that being said, enjoy the memories you had back in the days guys, remember the people you played with, remember the events you participated in. Don't try to recreate that, because you can only ruin it.

I purposely stay away from websites like Wowhead-Classic and I don't use addons. My current high character is only lvl 32 and I have 2.5 gold. I don't even have all my spells. I'm enjoying the old game mechanics on my hunter. My pet actually does what I tell him to do. I love trying to find beasts that have the skills my pet needs . I like having to think about how I'm going fight my way into the tower in northern dark shore to kill the head warlock. or how I'm going to wipe out 6 mobs as a solo player. I love meeting random people and teaming up with them for a short duration to meet common goals. Granted I play on Atiesh because I knew the hell the pvp servers would be. I was bad at pvp 15 years ago and as someone 15 years older I can safely say my reflexes are not as good as they were back then. Overall I'm having a blast. Several of my old guild mates have returned for Classic so yeah for us it has been a great experience.

Aww that is so cute. I wish I could have enjoyed the game that way. I will never forget my darkshore exploration in 2006, when I started. A little gnome rogue named Sharpshadow, trying to figure out where to find the turtle skeletons locations, whole being so scared of the murlocs that kept killing me. I cna never recapture that, because I am so much better at playing now. :(

Dire Maul came very early to this version of the game to boost people through MC. We also do have nerfed bosses and buffed classes. Asmongold doesnt play the game that its supposed to. He got people up 9-10 hours a day that would quit wow in a second if he would switch to minecraft. They play because of him.

Really well said, Zack. Some people seem to think taking the game at your own pace is not a good thing. It's nice when people are coordinated and optimized, no denying, but there's also something to be said about taking your time and playing as you like. As a first time Classic player I've been loving just exploring the world and questing + running the occasional dungeon. I might only be 52 on my main, but the experience has been pretty positive.

As a former vanilla WoW player and current BfA player, this video sums up why I didn't bother to even create a character in Classic. Back in the day, I only truly enjoyed the leveling experience (not the leveling itself, but discovering new areas and playing a much more complex game than any that I had ever played before), and then became very bored after reaching level 60 and getting my first (and only) fast mount, the warlock mount. Did some raids where I had no clue what I was doing, failed basic mechanics, tried to do all the dungeons at least once, and then just stopped playing until TBC. Over several expansions I got better, and more "goal-oriented" as you say, to the point that I don't think I could look at a WoW classic raid boss and consider it a challenging experience. BfA has been far from perfect, but on every tier I've really struggled to kill the last boss on Mythic difficulty (aka Cutting Edge), usually getting it in the last 2 weeks of a patch, and I've enjoyed the experience everytime (obviously, some bosses more than others). I don't feel I could get any comparable enjoyment from WoW Classic.

I recruited 4 real life friends for classic, most of which had never played an MMO and don't play games too much in general. We always quested and did dungeons together while on Discord. It was the most fun experience I've ever had playing the game because we didn't rush through anything. We'd half-assed roleplay to take the piss out of people and the game, bully every Alliance scumbag we saw out in the world, learned how to dehumanize people because of the races they play, have naked fist-fights outside of UBRS on the ledge and make the loser jump to their death. That stupid shit is where Classic shines, not from any of the actual content. I've noticed that players now have very little personality or willingness to actually do things that don't reward them. It's sad because it's your own fault if you're not having fun.

Late Generation X here. I was 28 in 2005. Hence, the age difference thing has hit me a bit differently than most, because I wasn't a kid or a teenager, but am still a lot older now of course. I started playing WoW in April of 2006. My main Hunter was at about level 56-57 when TBC came out. I disagree with the people who say that elitism wasn't around back then; it was, although you had to look for it...in terms of either being on the forum or in a guild. Like most people, I was a very different person back then; but I think the main reason why TBC felt so glorious had nothing really to do with WoW itself at all. I was younger, and at the time I still had hope about what I was going to do in life. After 15 years, however, I'm still largely in the same situation in many respects, which means that there's a lot less romanticism associated with the game at this point. I'm not the guy who is playing WoW but is going to take over the offline world as well, any more; now I'm someone who is playing WoW alone and going bald while everyone else around me has children...and being on the wrong side of 40 means I know I am going to eventually die now, as well. I played Classic for close to a month after it was released this last August, but I had to leave my guild due to raging in guild chat about sociopaths in pugs, and I started playing BFA not long after. That was my first time in retail WoW since the end of WoTLK. Icecrown and the Dungeon Finder killed WoW for me at the time. Past about level 30 anyway, I virtually never encounter people, either in BFA or Classic, who are playing the game because they actually enjoy it; the mechanics or the stories or whatever. It's always because they're trying to get some mount, or some title, or just farm gold with the Dungeon Finder, and with pretty much every five man I go into, the tank is a good 30 feet ahead of me at all times. I've had tanks who won't even stop for long enough for the DPS to kill mobs, and if I complain I am just laughed at and told to hurry up. I am still playing BFA, and I enjoy it, but I don't play with anyone else, or even try to for the most part. I either quest, do old 5 mans or raids with my boosted Paladin, or fish. WoW can still be fun, but it's the people who ruin it. I think with MMORPGs in general, in the past there was a lot more individuality, whereas the two younger generations primarily just view themselves as anonymous drops in a bucket. As one example, in the past you'd explore a tower or castle on your own, whereas now you're plugged into a wiki like everyone else, and if it says there is no point going in, you don't bother. Your mention of Flamelash is an example of another problem. No one is focused on simply playing the game in the way Blizzard intended, any more. Almost everyone is trying to exploit the game in some way, which ends up being a perversion of what Blizzard wanted. Spellcleaving is another great example of that, and I remember seeing the video about it. In terms of whether or not said people are sociopathic; in my experience the people who are trying to speedrun or exploit in these various ways, generally do not want to speak or otherwise associate with others at all. It's just about getting it done as fast and as silently as possible. As a final point, I like your persona and speaking style a lot more here, than I usually do in your streaming videos. I understand that if you stream for a living, it probably requires you to have something of a stage personality or character; but truthfully, Zack seems like a much nicer guy than Asmongold. More laid back, calmer, and more mature. He's someone I could see myself being friends with.

For me, the big issue was the community and you described it perfectly. Basically, intense schisms between players wanting to min-max and players wanting to play the game the way they wanted to. Its in diametric opposition to many game design elements. Its very slow paced combat, but people want to speed run it. Its very easy content, put people niggle about consumables and specs. Leveling is very long and tedious yet people shame you for rushing through it. All of this led to very odd human scenarios, where people I played live wow with for years started acting very strange, like if they were IRL RPing as who they were (or perhaps who they WISH they were) in 2004. I've never seen something cause so many arguments and make people so opinionated on things that frankly were absurdly easy. I couldn't get people to maximize their dps on Ashvane pre-nerf, but people are talking about min maxing every single thing in a game where it literally doesn't matter. Ultimately, Classic just isn't for me. The game is. But the people who play it are not.

I think the term "meta" is really a good example of this. Tier lists and some sort of meta did exist back in the day, but weren't something 99% of the player base were really considering. You read a boss guide at best and those were surprisingly different from one another even weeks after a boss release. Now everyone follows the exact same tactic, has the pretty much exact same build and rolls for the same gear. In BFA people shit on you for not having read a boss guide beforehand in fkn LFR. Most people know which zones they should quest in, which items they should get down the road and what profession they should use alongside this. A game about the journey in a huge world and exploration is damaged a lot by people just looking straight at the mechanics behind these things.

Former hardcore vanilla WoW player here. To me that period is a time capsule. We can open it up whatever, 15 or 20 years later and reminisce. But the experience of playing the game at that time will never even come close to being replicated. And honestly I don't really think you can even just let WoW Classic be its own thing either. Because WoW classic without the people from 15 years ago is not the same game. You hit the nail on the head when you compared it to seeing a classic rock band in the seventies. It might be nostalgic to see the same band again 30 years later but ultimately it's kind of like drinking a warm glass of water in the desert. You can't replicate how you felt seeing those bands as a teenager with your friends. The music might be the same but as someone who lived it at the time it was fresh, no remastered experience is going to make me come back. Again like you said, most people I imagine just play the game with goals now. There's nothing romantic about the experience anymore. Technically it's the same game. But the spirit of what it was has been gutted. And the spirit, at least for me, was 90% of what made it so remarkable. Vanilla WoW was a JOY. It really was. There's nothing joyous about replaying all that content 15 years later without the community which existed back then. Lastly what happens at the end of it all after Naxx? What happens after that raid is clear and everyone has their loot? Does everyone just pack it up and go "well that was a fun 5000 hours. Guess we go back to retail now..." That's an honest question nobody seems to want to talk about. Is WoW classic just the longest 2nd playthrough in the history of video games? What is Blizzard going to do? Are they REALLY going to ask people to replay Burning Crusade too?

I only started watching some of your KZbin steams/vblogs/etc. recently. I know, I've been living under a rock (or in Azeroth). Anyway, Zack, I wanted to say you are right on the money here. It is a game and there are too many young, "hardcore," and immature players who believe they are the gods gift to Lady Sylvanas. I love MMO's. I played EQ/EQ2 for a couple fo decades. I worked on, and played Star Wars Galaxies, I worked in the computer industry for a few decades, and to me, the best part of MMO's are the relationships that I have made in game (some have become RL). A little kindness goes a long way. You never step into the same river twice, LOL, I LOVE that man! I see "elite" players who burn through content and when there is nothing left for them to do, before the next xpac hits, they go to charging other players for boosts, and take it out their frustration on some others. It's crazy how shitty some players can be to others, especially if they are in a PUG... they should know better. Anyway, in this video, you are very calm, mature (cough cough), articulate, to the point and embody a maturity that I wish other players had. Live can be a cesspool... but I'm sad to see Classic succumbing to the idiotic majority. Blizzard could take charge of the situation. This is a game, and it should be fun, but not at somebody else's expensive, unless they give consent.

I loved doing the quests more than the dungeons. I liked the slower pace it offered and the illusion I was a journeyman making my way through Azeroth. I knew every talent point and every piece of gear my character wore was earned from that journey. Not by farming, not by optimized gameplay. That is part of why most of the gaming I do now revolves around singleplayer or limited multiplayer games like Dark Souls. Multiplayer was more fun when the efficiency-focused and intolerant players were the minority. No matter what online experience you go to now, you are almost guaranteed to go through something like this. It's ok and even healthy to get into arguments with people but when it comes down to nothing more than an anonymous person over the internet flaming, griefing and then attempting to avoid you via blocking or kicking you it is disgusting.

I know exactly what quests to skip, where to go, where each thing drops, where the Darkmoonfaire crap is, how good or bad each item is, how much every single thing is worth, when to skip dungeons. Plus I'm just better now than I was back then. Back then I wanted to experiment with each spec and build, now I just sit in resto and collect herbs. This was like retiring and going back to a changed home town, this wasn't a 1:1 creation of vanilla.

Just started playing for WoW for the first time ever. Never really even got into an mmo before. All I can say so far is I feel like an idiot for not playing sooner. Been looking for a different game/type of game to play for a while and this is it. I bought minecraft when it was in alpha and it gives me the same feeling of placing down your first crafting table every time I run a dungeon or complete a quest. Thank you Zack for showing me the potential in this awesome game.

Just transferred from my (old) server's best (Min/MAX) raiding guild this morning to a new server. My old guild was obsessed with parses, MC speed runs, grinding AV exalted in two days, etc. Our last MC was cleared in 45 minutes and we were still getting nit-picked on our boss fights. I had to have status meetings with my GM to go over my spell rotations, general play style, etc. Meanwhile, when not raiding, I was expected to be a summonbot, pot/flask maker and a guild transmuter. Never got tipped for a transmute (fine, the raid gear was amazing), but I never even got a 'thank you' either. The only thing I really wanted to do was have run and clear raids, but the speed run/parsehole BS was sucking the joy out of that. In a weird way, I took joy when things went sideways on a pull because it reminded me of the old days. Hoping to find a new guild that's serious about clearing raids, but doesn't give a damn about world rankings and server bests.

Something I thought was interesting was that Reddit post you read on stream recently. It’s not the game that’s changed, it’s the people who have. We have fond memories not because of rose tinted goggles, but because it was actually that fun back then. Problem is, we’ve changed as people over the years. Things we found fun before aren’t fun now, and different things are fun now. Like in your 90’s comedy movie, it probably was funny to you years ago, but now your sense of humor has changed

I dont disagree totally but cmon... People have changed? Maybe its cuz we all playing a Game where everybody can google Quests, Solution, Bossfight Tactics, the Patch we playing on is the Pre Naxx Patch. The List could go on and on. Back when i was 14 i literally KNEW shit about the game, mechanics, bosses, enchants and it took me MONTHS for level 60. Now? Dude its embarrassing if your not 60 after 3 Weeks of starting. U cant come up with something old and call it new and think the community is the same it was in Vanilla.

People need to realise that Zack is actually just a really nice guy who plays up on stream a bit for entertainment, there's nothing to be offended about lol clearly his streaming process is very successful so just let him do it. People can watch whatever they want so there' really no need to pick and choose which version of zack he should upload.. love this vid btw spoke to my nostalgia a lot

When classic launched I had the expectations of hitting 60 instantly and raiding. After an hour of playing I just took it all in and leveled slowly at my own pace (coming from a high-end Mythic raider in BFA). The game becomes WAY more enjoyable when you do things slowly without expectations. Sadly I quit due to IRL reasons and not wanting to commit to playing both BFA/Classic. Wish I did, but it was a good experience while it lasted.

This is exactly why I decided to play with no add-ons, and level as a single-target mage instead of "optimizing the fun out of the game" as you put it. I've had a great time.

It's very true, I thought I did, but after returning to a game 15 years old I realized nostalgia can only get you so far before you realize why the game progressed. Been there and done that, beat the game then, don't see a reason to replay everything all over again. I thought I did, but I didn't.

@Rumid I can deny it. I've lived that 'adventure' and sure as a kid it seemed like an adventure, but as an adult it's just kind of a boring grind, there's a reason people just live in dungeons, because questing is boring as hell. I'm glad other people are enjoying the game, but it's not this 'meaningful journey' so many people claim it to be.

Asmon, I completely agree that it's not the same. I mainly play Old School RuneScape and man when I started playing that game it felt completely different compared to the times I played it back in the good old days. Doing the quests that I could never figure out back in 2007 seem so simple now.

While i love this version of you, I cant help but feel torn between how you handled the Advertise situation on stream vs the ending monologue here. I think the worst thing about classic is seeing the darker side to all the big streamers. I understand hamming things up for the enjoyment of the stream but hopefully things can get sorted out and the streamers can come down off their ivory towers and play the game with the rest of us. Keep going big dick!
@ZackRawrr

I know personally that I enjoy playing the game a lot more as a player than I do a streamer. There are a lot of negatives to streaming the game that don't exist in other, more modern games. For example, any time I play a battleground on my warrior I end up being targeted by a large majority of the team and focused the entire game. That's not fun for me. It's clear to me that it's because they recognize my name because if I ever die they emote me like crazy and teabag me nonstop until I release. It's really weird to see how people act around streamers in general. Before they fixed the AV report thing I was literally unable to play AV because every time I queued into a game I was spam reported my tons of people on my team and it instakicked me and gave me deserter. I think the reason why you see a "darker side" to bigger streamers is that Classic WoW isn't a modernized game and doesn't have the tools that newer games have to deal with griefers and stream sniping. When you have people who dedicated hours of their time on a daily basis exclusively towards trying to prevent you from enjoying or playing the game, you'd be angry too. Imagine if, every time you logged on, you had just two people who went out of their way to disrupt anything you're doing. Larger streamers all have to deal with this, to varying degrees. What you're seeing isn't a "darker side" of a streamer, it's simply frustration and anger when they reach a tipping point after being targeted and fucked with for hours on end by people who either have a vendetta against streamers or want to use that streamers platform as a means to promote themselves at the expense of the streamer. The fact that it's their job doubles the frustration. Imagine if someone went to your job daily and tried to undermine and derail you from doing your work. I don't think it's a "darker side" at all honestly, anyone would act that way if they were put in that position.
