There’s currently Z 24-200mm f4-6.3. Not an S lens but still is a great versatile lens. Me personally, i’d pick this one due to constant f4 and slightly better optical quality. But for those who need the 200mm zoom, that 24-200 may suit them better 🙂

Coming from the 24-120 f4 f mount lens to the z lens is like night and day. I was never satisfied with my f-mount which produced soft underwhelming images and I hardly used it. I've just bought the Z mount for my Z6ii and Zf and oh boy what a lens. I also have the 24-70 f4 kit lens and. can't see a situation where I'll be needing this again.

Please provide a link to the nef files so that you can independently evaluate the image quality when shooting with this lens. How does he behave when taking portraits? Will it be inferior to the 24-70 2.8 lens in this regard? Are the distortions great? Thanks!

Thanks for the great review of this lens! This is the lens I wanted before I started traveling but it wasn't available so I sold my 24-70 f/4 and went for the 24-70 f/2.8, it's a great lens but bulky for traveling. I make the best of it by switching to DX mode for a bit more reach. This 24-120 f/4 in my mind is a great compromise for a 1 lens traveler, it provides even more reach when switched to DX mode and the constant f/4 is appreciated. I keep hearing they are in stock but then they are gone when I want to order. Guess I'll have to wait a bit more.

I’ll have to see where I can do a trade or sell the 24-70 to get the 24-120. My finance manager approves that deal. LOL! Plus, it doesn’t make sense to be lugging around both.

@@RedImaginationbyGG LOL! True. Had to sell off my DSLR gear to upgrade to the Z6 II and get the 24-70 f/2.8. Traveling around with my gear that I’m not using all the time is a pain. I’m waiting a bit to see if there will be a Z6 III or a Z8. Then I’ll sell if the Ninja V and associated accessories, that will lighten my bag a bit also.

Excellent review and images! I shoot a Z7 with the Nikkor 24-70 f/4 S, and am getting superb results, especially in terms of image sharpness and detail. I'm now interested in the 24-120 f4, but have a question please...Have you compared it with the 24-70 f/4 S, and if so, would I be losing ANY sharpness by going with the 24-120? (Just FYI, I'm a sharpness fanatic, and usually shoot around f/8 or f/11, tripod-mounted.) Thank you sir.

Thanks for dropping by mate 😃 Regarding your question, I've never yet get my hands on the 24-70 f4, let alone the comparison test with this 24-120 f4. In saying that, I have tried so many S series lenses and ALL of them are impressive regarding the sharpness. I'd have my full faith in all S line lenses. haha. From videos I watched about 24-70 vs 24-120, you can't really tell the difference to be honest.

why no image stabilization?

The short answer is I don't know myself. My understanding is that the market for this lens are mainly Z6 or Z7 users, image stabilisation would not be as crucial as all the Nikon full frame Z bodies have built-in IBIS.
