Very helpful review. One thing puzzles me, you don't seem to need to position the weft at an angle to avoid draw-in and you don't need to pay attention to the edges / selvedge?
@ThreefoldDesigns Жыл бұрын
No, I just ensure the tension is consistent to avoid draw-in. If you're worried about it, you can get a weaving temple? The game changer for me was when I decided to stop over thinking the weft placement, and just gently PLACING it in the shed, if that makes sense?

Would you do tapestry or do you do tapestry on your Ashford Jack if you didn't have a tapestry loom?
@ThreefoldDesigns Жыл бұрын
Hey Hollyann - you could definitely weave tapestry on a floor loom - you should check out Rebecca Mezoff's channel, as she does just that :)

just wondering about your thoughts on if this loom would be a good loom to actually learn to weave on? I want to weave my own woolen clothing fabric (, very simple, plain style weaving/ patterns, maybe some cotton and linen as well) and instead of spending money on small looms and working my way up I am considering saving up money for the "goal loom" but I'm concerned jumping straight into a floor loom would not be able to learn from scratch. Just any thoughts or advice (promise not to hold you to it lol) would be great. thanks

To be honest, I started with a table loom, then worked my way up to a second hand floor loom, then finally the Ashford floor loom. Here in Australia, it's very easy to on-sell old looms when you want to upgrade, but it really depends on a couple of things. Firstly, your budget, and secondly, are you absolutely sure you will be wanting to weave for long enough to get your money's worth?? You can totally learn to weave on a floor loom, but I didn't want to spend that sort of money until I was sure that I would continue weaving!

@@ThreefoldDesigns thanks for that. definitely gives me something to think about moving forward. Not a lot of secondhand market going on here in south Australia. but I'm on the lookout. Will be checking out the weavers guild here as well to see what they have to offer second hand and have found out they also hire on a monthly basis some looms so might try that until the ideal loom comes up ( plus gives me more time to save the pennies whilst still getting the experience under the belt) thank you so much for the input, now I'm off to look at table looms lol

@@Delldgm I'm in SA too, and I just saved a search under both Gumtree and Facebook marketplace - you'll be surprised what comes up! I've sold all my previous looms through both those channels too :)

@@ThreefoldDesigns oh wow didn't realise you were in SA. are You part of the Spinners and weavers guild? I have got a search on fb (not gumtree, might get hubby to do that) there weren't any Ashford floor looms. I am now considering the table looms so that might change the options. I did wonder about the Glimakra one but it seems just so big compared to the Ashford Jack. but it is on my keeping an eye on.

@@Delldgm Haha, no I'm not part of the Guild - not my scene, lol! I would just do a search for 'loom', and see what comes up ;)

Hi, love your review. I also have an Ashford Jack! In addition to that, I weave on 3 Gliimakra looms (a Julia 8 shaft, an Ideal and a 120cm Standard 10 shaft), a Louet David, a Macomber 8 shaft, a Leclerc Voyageur 12 shaft table loom, and 2 Louet Erica table looms! Oh, and an Ashford SampleIt rigid heddle loom, and an Ashford Tapestry loom, and an Ashford Inklette, too. Can you tell I'm hooked?
