Great review Jim. I have 3 of the little village buildings and love them. I’ve skipped the citadel because i wasn’t sure it was for me. This video is making me change my mind. Seeing how modular it is makes it much more handy than i’d envisioned.

I'm quite taken with the design and quality... I have a feeling I'll be building more :)

Yea, great vid... I have build a fair few of their pieces (the Mead Hall is excellent!) - but I *have* used glue along the seams where possible and practical. I used hot glue. It really firms things up, but of course makes your build a permanent one, rather completely modular. However, there is a compromise... going semi-modular, so when I made the Watermill for example, I glued all the building (apart from the roof to walls as I want to use the inside for rpg), but I left the jetties and such as separate entities to use as desired. With the Mead Hall, I also based it. Looks great when you do that, and ties everything together as a unit - and less worries of damage. Regarding the clips... I don't find them too intrusive, although I have seen a lot of people moaning about them; but of course, nothing stopping you from painting them or disguising them under some flocking / sand etc. My one criticism, that I have made to the company, is that the doors are a little short for a lot of 28mm minis. The Mead Hall is only accessible by a Dwarf :) LOL

The barrels can be used as small bridges w fencing. it actually looks great for the typical small village. I really do love my Battle Systems.

I'd probably just put some paint to "clad" the cardboard rims and blend them in better. Looks great.

Not a bad idea if you're really trying to push the realism as far as possible.

I have a lot of Battle Systems kits, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and yeah, penning the edges is a technique they fully show off.

Theres a great video on painting the edges if you search for it. They really recommend wildwood contrast paints for any wood and it looks incredible

Really super helpful stuff here. Was debating the vast expense of something Dwarven Forge for a final city based battle, but this is a much more economic option, albeit looking intimidating some to do. You helped alleviate that. Well done! Oh, and I've been D&D'ing since 1980 as well!

What is the dimensions of the inside if all four towers and walls are enclosed together, is there room for another building? I know it comes with little add-ons, but if you didn't use them, can you put another building inside like a Manor House or something similar?

Is the paper enough thick to survive in time? Or we buy it with an "expiration date" ?
@TheTabletopEngineer4 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on how well you take care of it. It is a very heavy material, much heavier than cardstock and slightly thicker than the chipboard I typically work with. I'm keeping my citadel in a medium sized plastic box with a lid and I'm not worried at all. Now, spilled drinks... that's a different story :)

Do you remember the visual effects in that awesome movie predator? That is what it felt like watching this video.

John Ware I don’t understand your comment.

The Tabletop Engineer The predator had a high-tech camouflage/invisibility field that made him blend into the background like the parts were in the first parts of the video where are you were assembling on top of a table with a busy pattern.
