Why hire when you can hack?
Come and see what you can build on OCI today! bit.ly/DevelopWithOracle
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are still too dumb to do engineering, but that's OK - so am I! The goal: Craft a robot intern that tells lies, steals code, and works for free. I borrowed a Misty II robot, added an insult generator, and hooked her up to one of the most powerful open-source text-generation models ever built. Everything goes wrong, and today there's more everything than usual.
More about Misty: docs.mistyrobotics.com/misty-...
Test GPT-J6B yourself: 6b.eleuther.ai/
If the server got bear hugged, try huggingface.co/EleutherAI/gpt...
Natural Language Toolkit: www.nltk.org/api/nltk.html
Apply to be Voidstar Lab's next intern: bit.ly/3OFXegf
Turns out Misty Robotics got bought out by a competitor the same week they deployed their massive software overhaul. They ended up leaving a bug in Misty's Web dashboard that gobbled up audio events before I could receive the results. The dev team was presumably preoccupied with running through the hallways, bellowing primal screams, throwing papers in the air, pressing every button in the elevator, riding dirt bikes between the cubicles, flinging spaghetti with makeshift trebuchets, and other important merger-related activities. I don't blame the team at all, and the robot hardware itself is exceptionally high-quality.

I decided not to share Misty's code because it... doesn't really work any more. I'll port the insult generator to Python and release it with the next episode. The server code is pretty insubstantial and not worth sharing either. Next time will get real spicy.

This is the funniest of all your videos to date. Giving you a virtual host to riff off of, even if you overdubbed their parts after the fact, created something really special. By the way ... you could have saved yourself some pain with NLTK. GPT-J-6B like its bigger brother GPT-3 accepts prompts in the form of Question: Should I use leadfree solder? Answer: It will usually begin by spitting out a more or less opinionated answer, some empty lines and then some garbage like another question or an e-mail signature. So just parsing up to the first new line should give you something usable for most cases.

To be fair, the average software developer barely made it out of college, and the bar for "programmer" is much, much lower than that. An advanced text generator has a fighting chance and beating that sort of average.

What would be impressive is having your voice recognition and processing hosted locally. I steered away from cloud computing when Watson and Google changed their license terms and services mid development. Just like you. They did it several times. A far as I'm concerned the cloud is dead to me. The number of failure points are just too high and out of my control.

It really makes me wonder how larger dev businesses are dealing with that, since so many of them use cloud based development now. Or why they would risk it, to be frank. It's one thing when someone like Zack has some breakage since his channel is just a couple people basically working in entertainment. They have viewers enjoying content instead of clients breathing down their necks for an update because they're bleeding money. What happens when a major development company has the same thing happen though? How many potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars go down the drain every time something like this happens?
