Nice tree, great leaf size. Has the leaf size reduced in the time you have had it? Having watched your videos, I think i need to try and be a bit bolder with my pruning.

The leaf size has reduced naturally through regular pruning. My approach takes a lot longer to develop good pads but I hate tangled chinese elm growth. Perhaps suggesting a slight OCD issue for me.

I do like these Chinese Elms. Their bright green foliage is certainly something that cheers me up in the morning when I trudge outside. Nice pruning Xav. 👍👍

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Hi Xav. It's no effort I assure you. I was out of circulation with pre-op visits to Chichester and the to the op itself followed by recovery. It's been a long road but only the right hip and the left knee to go now. I think I'll be playing catch up for a while yet! Thanks Xav. Appreciate your support. 😀😀

What a delightful petty elm 🤩 I‘m happy with mine as well. A quite forgiving tree with beautiful small leaves. 🙏🙋♀️

Thanks Martina. I love this because it is one of the first that is started from cutting. It has worked out well on the rock.😁

This is my favourite because it started as a cutting and was my first attempt at root on rock. This year I am going to bring it further out of the soil and see how it looks then.

Awesome stuff Xavier, thank you for sharing your tips. I'm going to try and start a RoR elm next year and will follow your guidance. Take care, Alex

I heard on the news that Orkney is shrinking for some reason. Im liking the Chineses Elm, as you say pruning keeps the leaves small, works on my one.

That definitely made me chuckle. Feel free to share a picture with me via my website contact page. I'd love to see it.
