Nice run through the event. I must admit I had forgotten how much prep needs to go in before you sell at these fairs. And credit card machine signal - ha! Been there and experienced that many times. Vehicles - creator types are not so popular. Although the 007 Aston Martin has done quite well. London bus like others from the theme are on shelves for a long time and so people probably get bored of them. I think that’s why ultimately they don’t do so well in the after market. And then LEGO also have new vehicles in the stores so you don’t really have to buy retired. Thanks for sharing. 😊

Good result on the Brick Bank. I have one of those sealed. One of my favourite modulars, good fun back story with the money laundering at the laundrette. I'm surprised at the relatively small profits on the vehicle sets. Three of those I have sealed. The VW van, VW car and the London bus. The van and bus being two of my favourite ever large scale vehicles. Very surprising that you got the biggest profile on the 3 in 1 vehicle set. We all have our individual preferences I suppose.

Hi Norman. Unfortunately not all Lego set increase a vast amount once retired, but at least I still made a small profit. It's the first time I had taken that vacation camper to a brick festival to sell so nice to see it sell first time.
@normanrobson8654 Жыл бұрын
@@iainsbricks I suppose any profit is welcome. I always buy my sets with the view to build them but rarely get around to it. I limit myself to a few sets a year now. With so many great sets around its difficult which to choose. Storage space limits the number of sets bought too.

Thanks for watching Peter. Although I made a profit on all items I sold, some of the profits margins were much lower than i had originally hoped when i bought the sets, so just wanted to point out that not every set you buy is going to make loads of profit.

Glad you did well at the Lego festival. We have just had one in Doncaster but I was working 😢. It's a great insight in to Lego investing and selling. It's not easy as it looks. Some sets you think will do well just dont. I've just been going through my stock and taking out the sets that haven't done as well just to sell for a small profit. My wife told me off for buying to much 😂😂😂. I am thinking of selling at one of the festivals but I'm a little unsure with the card machines so I'm going to watch you do more and take notes. Looking forward to the next instalment. 😀

Thanks Dean. The card reader I use is from Sumup and only cost me £20. Despite some signal issues at a couple of fairs, I do take mist of my money at these things by card payments, so it's definitely worth getting one

@@deangill.6772 That's one of the things about these festivals - you can sell stuff at a good price at the times of year when things don't sell that well on other platforms like ebay and marketplace.

It’s great that Lego is still going strong , I has so much as a kid , I once built a stand around my subbuteo pitch back in the 70,s, my kids enjoyed lego and now my granddaughter has started to get into building with it, will be taking her to the brick festival in Liverpool in June, I have also started investing and will be doing shows next year at some stage. Love the videos keep the good work up

Thanks Nigel. I've always been a big fan of Lego. Lego town was my favourite growing up in the late 70s and early 80s. I get back into Lego in 2010 with the modular buildings. Good luck with the investment journey and have a great time at the Liverpool Brick Festival

Hello my friend, looks this one was another success. Itching to get to Weston to start selling, my last one was Milton Keynes last October and have brought far too much since then … although it’s what we do and love. I’m booking in for Newport at the end of May and am actually thinking about Maidstone … but it’s a 100 miles, so not sure yet. Oxford in July is a much closer one and then Bournemouth, Milton Keynes and Weston towards the end of the year!! Oh and meant to ask if you’ve got the Brinklink sets from last year, as they look amazing? Keep up the good work!!
@iainsbricks Жыл бұрын
Wow! You really are planning to go all in this year. I was going to go to the Oxford brick Festival in July but I sold so much at my last 2 events that there is no need - I'd rather wait another year for some of my sets to appreciate in value a little more first. I will still be doing Weston in May and Bournemouth in September though.
@leeshurmer7063 Жыл бұрын
@@iainsbricks yeah trying to, but like yourself … I’ll see how the sets sale and make further plans from there!! If I’m just as successful like yourself, then I may not book the others. Although I do have a bloody lot to sell. 🤪

I did Doncaster yesterday, I just didn't have time to do any videos, we had 6500 people through the door, I sold £1100 before we even opened, sold a couple of big sets to other traders. I did Birmingham last year and didn't think it could be any busier, how wrong was I.

Congratulations I believe the harry potter gwp was 2020, 2021 and 2022. I have them all. I got multiple of the staircase one last year when I went to Toronto Canada. They had a bunch of harrypotter lego on sale therefore I bought a lot of harrypotter lego. Do not forget to see what Amazon has on sale next month (May) and in Toronto Canada, The lego started last year to price matching Amazon lego sales. Therefore you can those extra gwp from the lego store.

The Harry Potter gifts with purchase have done well for me. I had a few of the monster book of monsters which I sold for decent amounts at my earlier Lego fairs. Hopefully they will do a good Harry Potter GWP this year as well.

Great summation and useful information, you’re gradually building momentum. Its a marathon not a sprint! One thing though, i think you’re being harsh on yourself with profit %. For example buy for 70, sell for 100 isnt 30% its 42.8% etc. Sounds like you’re probably average out somewhere around the 40-50% overall which is testament to buying at good discounts off RRP as well as sets retiring. Buyers still getting good deals.

Well done Iain getting rid off the sets that don't perform so well. As a Lego investor I find that the biggest constraint is not the money, but space so those sets that underperform take up valuable space and it's money locked up as well so those sets come with a high opportunity cost. Oh and I'm very fussy about box condition as well as most Lego investors I would imagine.
@iainsbricks Жыл бұрын
Even though I wasn't making much on some of the sets I sold, I was still making a small profit, even though some of the sets retired around 5 years ago, which means,they are unlikely to increase in value much more.
@adamfairbrother6242 Жыл бұрын
Agree with vechicles the exception might be the Ghostbusters car. Selling stuff that is not making much of a profit is key, the problem is that sometimes you like a set and think it is worth a lot more than it actually is. I had the Harry Potter book of monsters and sold one for £50 but have got another one and was asking £75 becuse I didn't want to sell it need to change this way of thinking.
@iainsbricks Жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. You're right, it's like selling anything, even houses and cars - the seller always thinks it's worth more than it is! It is difficult not to get too attached to the Lego sets, even though I'm never going to open or build them! Hopefully with the money I made on these underperforming sets, I can make better buying choices this time around!
