I started listening to them again this year for the first time in too long, born in 91 and I used to cry to sleep at night listening to Creed, Sara Maclachlan, all these spiritual songs....this one hits home like it did when I was a kid. I love the way so many of their songs start with Mark playing some mellow licks based on the main chord progression, it's like a little meditation. In general his phenomenal guitar work has always defined the band and helped to make them more distinctive musically, IMHO. I'll never understand the hatred directed at this band - they're all exceptional musicians and Scott has a natural intensity and a powerful voice that's instantly recognisable. Sure, their songs might not be technically impressive or thematically complex, but there's a lot of authentic emotional depth there, all delivered with total sincerity; some people, especially very cynical, "ironic" and fatalistic people seem to find that kind of sincerity to be "corny" or "cringe" - but then you have a look at what _they_ listen to... 😫 I'd love to see them give a reunion another go, though they're probably all too busy enjoying life to go back to the rigours of touring and endless fan interactions.
