I love Nickleback. Been a fan for over 20 years and saw them live. Awesome show. People just "hated them" because it was popular to hate them. I think people just got annoyed that radio stations just ALWAYS played them Creed is also a really good band. To me, Creed, Nickleback, Hinder, Puddle of Mudd and Three Doors Down often have similar sounds.
@ninja_tony2 ай бұрын
Absolutely agreed, and pretty much all the bands you named get a lot of crap all the time, and every one of them is great as far as I’m concerned. I saw Three Doors Down in either 2002 or 2003, and they were fantastic.

Formed in Tallahassee. Creed formed in 1994 with their debut album, My Own Prison. After hearing them play live, Diana Meltzer of Wind-Up Records decided to sign the band to her label. After making it more radio friendly, the album was re-released by Wind-Up across the country and became a success, reaching the Top 40 of the Billboard 200. My Own Prison is, as of now, 6-times platinum.

A lot of people have been saying for many years that Alice In Chains influenced bands like Creed, from that period. The guys in AIC have said they’re unaware of it, and don’t really analyze music that way. But I can sorta recall when Creed was a big act, and some of the stuff written about them in the media. To be honest their songs didn’t really click for me at the time. But my spirituality has grown as I’ve gotten older, so their music makes more sense to me now.

Those sounds you like are the cymbals of the drum kit. They each sound different and have different purposes. The consistent "ping" sound is the ride cymbal, or sometimes the hi-hat, and I think it's what you're talking about. The louder cymbals are called crashes, and it sounds somewhat like a crash when they hit it. Lars of Metallica doesn't use a ride cymbal and replaced it with a china cymbal; it's like a muted crash, part of his signature sound.

Correct... both Creed and Nickleback got crap for being 'post-grunge' rock bands, i.e. emerging after the early 90's grunge rock bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc. Both Creed and Nickleback were formed in 1994/ '95 (Creed in Florida... Nickleback in Canada) Formed in Tallahassee, Florida after Scott Stapp (vocals) met Mark Tremonti (guitar)... they recruited Scott 'Flip' Phillips (drums) and Brian Marshall (bass) and named the band Creed... They recorded and released their debut album 'My own prison' in 1997 independently, but it got such a huge response in Florida that Creed was signed to upstart label Wind-Up Records and released 'My own prison' nationally. Radio stations across the US started playing Creed singles - 'My own prison'... 'Torn'... and the album made it on the charts by 1998 as MTV started playing the videos for 'My own prison'... and the single "What's this life for"... The record sold 4x platinum in the US (4 million copies), eventually 6x platinum. 2nd album 'Human Clay' was a heavier album but the big single was 'Higher'... and the ballad 'With arms wide open' became a #1 hit in the US... 'Human Clay' sold 11 million copies in the US and thrust Creed into superstardom. However, the band got backlash for their immense popularity and were mistakenly labeled a 'Christian rock' band... Internal disputes led to bassist Brian Marshall leaving Creed by 2000. Recording the 3rd Creed album as a trio w/ Mark Tremonti playing bass, 'Weathered' charted at #1 in the US and sold 6x platinum w/ 'My Sacrifice' the first single... However, Creed's tour in 2002 was a disaster at the peak of their popularity w/ a session bassist ... Vocalist Scott Stapp was drinking heavily and getting divorced and his performances were terrible... A 2nd tour was canceled as a result. In 2003, a frustrated Mark Tremonti announced that Creed had broken up... Scott Stapp announced his first solo album 'The great divide' in 2005... while Creed's Tremonti and Phillips re-hired bassist Brian Marshall and formed a new band - Alter Bridge w/ vocalist Myles Kennedy (who also played guitar in the band) and released their debut album 'One day remains' in 2004. Creed reformed in 2009 and released their 4th album 'Full circle'... but went separate ways again as Alter Bridge became a priority and became more popular than Creed overseas, releasing 7 studio albums... Guitarist Mark Tremonti also formed his solo band Tremonti (he sang lead vocals) and released 5 albums to date. In 2024, Creed announced a reunion tour and r making plans to record again... w/ both Alter Bridge and Tremonti active as well.

I leaned alot of their music on guitar, alot in 'dropped D' tuning and not really that technical. They are a guilty pleasure for alot of people. Creed was also writing music from a really personal and spiritual level as Scott Stapp (Lead Singer) is a professed Christian...his lyrics really reflect that if you happen to hear more of their music, which I highly recommend.

There was a time if Creed didn't have the #1 song on the radio , Nickelback had the #1 song on the radio . You should listen to Creed's song With Arms Wide Open . The lead singer of Creed found out that his girlfriend was pregnant & he sat down & wrote out the lyrics to the song & the lead guitarist in the band had the musical arrangement but no lyrics for a song & they put the two together & had one of their biggest hits . 2 more things . #1 don't just follow the crowd on Nickelback , they are a great band . The only reason people started hating them was because the lead singer of Nickelback was asked a question about some musician & he gave his honest opinion about the musician & people didn't like his answer & I'll tell you right now . Nickelback has one of the best songs ever written called Does Heaven Even Know You're Missing , which you should check out & I would actually like to dedicate that song to you & to my ex fiance that died in a car crash back in 2014 . #2 You need to check out the greatest band ever , Def Leppard .

Creed started in the 90's, and is more in the genre of Stone Temple Pilots, and, yes, Alice in Chains. Go back and listen to Creed's early hits: My Own Prison, One, Higher, What's This Life For, With Arms Wide Open, and One Last Breath. Creed is heavily influenced by their faith. So the lyrics are very powerful. I saw Creed live back in September, and it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. Scott Stapp, the lead singer, has a way to pull the audience in. Just an emotional, moving experience.

Listen to some more Creed. They and Nickelback are popular bands for metalheads to dump on. Honestly I think it’s because most metalheads would say they are a guilty pleasure band. It could be because they were very clearly influenced by the Seattle Grunge scene, and have a more radio friendly sound. Higher, With Arms Wide Open, What if, My Own Prison, and One Last Breath are a good ones to go with.

I’m a huge rock music fan. I wouldn’t say I’m crazy about Nickelback but they’re OK I think with these people here don’t understand is that you have a very limited time being exposed to rock music. I understand the reaction because Alice In Chains is one of my favorites. I actually get more frustrated by whoever it is that is recommending music to you. I once had a Latin girlfriend who was quite a bit younger than me that I showed her the ropes about rock music. But all of us here need to understand that this is your journey. How you choose to navigate it or what you choose to include is completely up to you. I just hope that eventually you start to stumble across some of the great music in the rock genre That you have yet to discover. I know that you like upbeat so I’m shocked that no one has really talked about AC/DC. Start with any of the basics on the back and black album. Anyway, good luck.

Anyone........literally AN-Y-ONE that bashes Creed and Nickelback cant call themselves fans of rock. At all. Theres a reason both bands have haters and its simple. Rock culture is rebellion culture. Rebels buck the popular and corporatism. Both bands had numerous songs that rock and pop radio played CONSTANTLY for YEARS. Because it got them ratings. Because people LOVED THEM. Now its that rebellious culture looking back at how popular the bands were so they blast them on misplaced principle. Nobody REALLY dislikes them.
