Out On The Walk is a new exhibit, in downtown Palm Springs that shares the history of LGBTQ celebrities who have been honored with stars on The Palm Springs Walk Of The Stars.
In edition to the exhibit, they have created a map to all of the stars, which I used to visit them all this morning. October is Gay, Queer, LGBT History month so it's the perfect time to check out the fascinating and important exhibit before its gone,

Thank you for making that walk in the heat for us. I notice that the stars in Palm Springs gave a little more detail like names of novels, etc.. instead of just "writer" for instance. That was a nice touch. Have a great week Steve. Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭

Great job and a great video, Steve. I have heard and seen the advertisements for "The Walk" and plan to do so within the next month. I should really visit downtown more, I was downtown last night for dinner but of course it was too dark. The drive there and back was crazy, we got through Gene Autrey going but coming home it was closed due to the wind and sand blowing. Surprisingly it was very nice downtown as we sat outside to eat. By the time we got home, the temps had dropped a good 20 degrees and the wind was so strong it was difficult to walk.

As you know I love the Palm Springs area. As you also know my first love is Indian Wells. What used to be a winter visiting place is now a year round destination. In the warmer months do things early. I also think Modernism has helped with the awareness of the area. Of course with the history of The Bob Hope Desert Classic and the huge tennis tournament that used to be hosted by Dinah Shore. Nancy Sinatra is part of the fabric of the area and her father is buried about ten miles away. The food. The style. The Palm Springs area has it all.

Hi James, I think the biggest change since the 1960s is, like you say, that the Palm Springs desert area is now a full-time city. Back then it used to be weekends and winters only. Now the streets are crowded all the time. It’s still not as congested as larger cities like LA, but the traffic just gets worse and worse here each year. That’s the only downside for me. 😩

That was oh so interesting! Did I just see Lily Tomlin's name? She hasn't died yet has she? I thought she was just in a new movie Steve. Or maybe not all of them have died that are on the Walk of Fame? No we don't have anything like this around the Washington, DC area. Too many would be outed and cause a major uproar with all the politicians! Can you imagine? Great video!
@theretiredlifewithsteve
@theretiredlifewithsteve 11 ай бұрын
Hi Janet, yes Lily Tomlin received her star about 20 years ago. She’s still very much alive and hopefully will be for a long time to come. Most of the people get their stars when they are still alive and very popular. Dionne Warwick got her star here about a year or two ago. Leslie Jordan’s star was the first ceremony that I attended where the recipient wasn’t there. Sadly, most gay politicians in Washington DC are in the closet and often are the ones passing laws against gay people, so voters don’t think that they are gay. Very sad 🥲

A bit surprising... Cost of a PS Walk of the Stars is $15K (vs $75K Hollywood Walk of Fame, fyi) Stars awarded in 7 Categories: Humanitarian, Entertainment, Civic/Pioneer, Architect/Artist/Designer, Athlete, Military, & Literary (Selection by Committee) 1-Special Category: Corporate Name Sponsor Star $100K (City Council Approval) FAQ: Why do some stars face one way and others face another? @theretiredlifewithsteve
@theretiredlifewithsteve 11 ай бұрын
How fun Larry. I can’t think of a better place to celebrate your 60th birthday! 😄🎂 I was just checking out hotels in Palm Springs for under $100 last week for a friend and the only place I could find online was the motel six in South Palm Springs. I think it was $85 a night plus resort fees and taxes which would bring it up to around $100 per night. It really depends on when you are coming. November and December are probably the two most popular months of the year here in Palm Springs so the prices are going to be the highest. You may not be able to find anything for under $100 during our winter busy season. Especially with all of the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year’s in those two months. This is when everyone comes to town to vacation because the weather is so good. You might have to wait until summer when rates are lower. Just go online and search in anything and your price range will come up. Good luck 🤞
