I watched a video recently where someone implemented small dams along a stream in a dry location. Not enough to completely stop up the streams, but enough to slow the water. It ended up turning the area into a fertile growing area and it greened up. Maybe build little dams instead of just letting the waters flow to encourage the water to soak in?

You mentioned keeping more water for the Sumer. Have you considered small damns aka “one rock damns” in some of the wider areas of small creeks? While they won’t hold water alll summer they will create moist areas that stay damp longer into the summer than if the water simply runs off.

Make a few depressions in some of your drainages to hold water into the summer? I've seen it done to help water retention on pasture and forest lands. Possibly another reason to play in the woods!

Build a lake? Or pond? To store runoff water if you can find a spot? Yep, your place is a bit on the wet side just like we are up here towards the Canadian border. And this was a fun video about the forest and did notice a few trees that had blown over in a few spots. Maybe they can go visit the mill?

I would still push more leaf matter up against those BDA's to make them pond up the water. Grabbing sediment is good, but BDA's are just as much about creating habitat and storing water through the long, dry parts of the year. Seeing how fast and easy the water passes through tells me the gaps between the branches are just too big. Without finer material plugging them, the water can't slow down and what sediment it's carrying can't drop out of solution to deposit on the channel floor.
