I like your secret garden sitting area! How wonderful that you’re off to Nepp Garden/Estate! The story of rewilding on a grand scale is inspiring for everyone. I think you’ll enjoy your upcoming courses and workshops. I have a journal-planner-sketchbook that I record in daily about what’s going on in my garden.🐇🍄🟫

It was reading about Knepp that started me on my journey wilding my garden. I used to think that the decline in nature was inevitable but Knepp gave me hope that nature can recover. I`m looking forward to my visit there. Glad you like my secret garden.

The course sounds really interesting but my thoughts are your garden has totally flourished, pick the ideas that may help you, and disregard anything that gut feeling says no. I'm always wary of the 'experts.' I hope enjoy the bee walk, that should be fun. Take care =-)

To be fair, I think they would be the first to admit they are learning, gardening in a different way and seeing what happens. I really want to go and see the garden now it has been going for a few years. Also our conditions are completely different, so what works for them won`t necessarily work for me. The bee walk was very useful. I think I can now tell a male from a female - possibly!

Your secret garden look's a lovely place to sit and observe insect's! I'm so pleased with the wooden bench I purchased this year, I'm gradually surrounding it with plant's so I can then call it my secret garden! I had never heard of Knepp, I think I will treat myself to the book, it look's very interesting.
@mywildwelshgarden-es3fr2 ай бұрын
Thanks, I wonder why I didn`t think of it before, maybe because the plants hadn`t grown up so much before and it didn`t feel so secret. The book is called Wilding by Isabella Tree and it was after reading that that I decided to wild my garden. There is also a film on You tube - called Wilding. You have to pay for it, but it`s not very much.

My favourite thing to do these days in the garden is to watch the bees on the catmint, agastache, and caryopteris. A bee identification course sounds like fun. Do bees know if a flower has nectar or do they just randomly check and often find empty flowers? Cheers!
@mywildwelshgarden-es3fr2 ай бұрын
I can spend a lot of time just watching the insects visiting flowers. I think they return to flowers they know have a lot of food. Bees can smell nectar. I know honey bees tell their sisters where the nectar rich flowers are by dancing and I guess bumble bees do too. Also flowers change when the nectar has run out so I think bees can tell. All your plants sound lovely but they are all ones I find it difficult to grow. Thanks for watching.

Hello Veronica, one step at a time, but be kind to yourself if they are not all in the same direction. It`s good to have something to look forward to, but don`t be surprised if doing something nice makes you feel sad. I still feel like that now. I always have the feeling that something is missing.

Yes, in the early days, on the odd occasion I found myself feeling a bit happy, I would immediately feel guilty. That`s the nature of grief - you can`t win. But that does get easier with time. I don`t feel so guilty any more, just very very sad.

I look forward to the Autumn as I do not like July and August because of the heat. Over the many years we travelled to France and round the UK I collected masses of seeds that I used to sow in pots and trays. Now I’m old and am like you letting the garden go wild. Today I gathered all the freebie seeds and sprinkled them onto the compost heap that is ready for Spring. Maybe some will germinate from now over Autumn and Winter.
@mywildwelshgarden-es3fr2 ай бұрын
I know for a lot of people autumn is their favourite time of year. I`m trying to love every season for different reasons - it`s just difficult sometimes. I hope your seeds germinate. I`ve been collecting seeds this year, so I`ll see what comes up.

Thanks Ali. Yes, I saw your sedums in your recent video, they are very impressive. I have some, but they don`t do so well, and the bees aren`t really interested in them. Different variety maybe - or different bees. I can spend a lot of time watching bees.

I fill my house with plants to fight the winter blues. With the shorter days, the leaves on the trees will soon be falling as the colours of autumn take over from the greens of summer. My house plants ( about 100 of them) make a big difference during the cold winters. Although the winters lately have been rather mild so climate change isn't all bad I guess. I love your little secret space. I am going to create one too as soon as I finish refurbishing my living room. I'm painting the new baseboards today and moving all my plants back in the house tomorrow, I hope. Renovating is only fun when you're finished
@mywildwelshgarden-es3fr2 ай бұрын
I tried to do that but I`m not very good with house plants. Also my cottage so quite dark so not ideal. Good luck with your renovation and making your secret garden.

The bench is in a lovely spot and what could be better than a glass of wine while sitting there amongst the insects. I look forward to your thoughts on Knepp I follow them on KZbin. I still need to buy the book. I like the rtial your doing with the wildflowers. I know of a woman who has a wild garden and she cuts the seedhead salk and all and moves it to areas in her garden where she'd like them growing. Its very successful. I just scatter and she what happens. Your bassal cuttings of lady's smock are doing very well.

It was reading Wilding that set me on this adventure of wilding my garden. I`ve felt so despondent about nature in the UK for many many years. It just seemed to be one depressing story after another and I just thought continual decline was inevitable. Learning about what happened at Knepp gave me hope that we can turn things around. I`m scattering seeds as well, but I`ll try whole seedheads too.
@wildlifegardener-tracey62062 ай бұрын
It can make you despondent witnessing such changes as we have over the years and my concern is the lack of biodiversity is the norm now for this generation. The what you've not experienced you don't miss theory. So I educate my children and grandchildren as much as I can and the few people who watch my videos with the little knowledge I have. Sit in your breathing space and watch what you're achieving. 😊 🍻 🐛 🦋 🐸 🦔
