Retired Air Force SF. We changed to that designation about 3 years before I retired. Advice to you.....Find a squared away SSGT and copy what he or she does as they have MUCH more experience behind them as to why they are set up their way. Good to see you are proud. Don't lose that. And for those that hate on the AF choosing SF (Security Forces), not your issue. You didn't choose that designator so no need to worry over it at all. Thank you for doing your time on the wall. Cheers

You'll learn real quick the first time you fight someone why you shouldn't hang unnecessary stuff of your vest, like that knife. Everything gets ripped and torn off. The last thing you want is someone getting a hold of that knife. Just a little recommendation based off my experiences

A tip: lose the folding knife (or stow it in your pocket since it's not secured to you) and replace with trauma shears. You have enough potential weapons that can be use against you (or buddies) if you go down. Shears are cheaper and they fit through the MOLLE webbing. Much safer for removing flex cuffs, and double as strap cutters if you ever go through the unfortunate vehicle roll-over. The folding knife is a liability against you if/when you go hands on for an arrest, even a compliant one.

Maybe consider getting a pair of trauma shears in case you need to perform CPR or SABC on a patient/suspect. A V blade or dedicated rescue knife w/ a window punch for gaining access to a patient and for cutting seatbelts on MVA’s if by chance you are on scene before Fire and EMS and situation dictates immediate action. Much easier than a standard pocket knife. Also an IFAK is always a good idea. Just some food for thought from an AF firefighter.

I wore an ALICE LBE from 1988 until 1993 when I received my first tac vest. With the LBE I wore my handcuff case in the front beside the belt buckle two ALICE magazine pouches one on either side, and two 1 quart canteens with a cup for each, one each at my kidneys. I carried 120 rounds at Clark AB PI, and Eaker AFB Ark., 90 rounds in one pouch and my radio in the other. I then went to USAFE and started carrying 210 rounds at Balikesir TU 90 rounds per pouch, then RAF Upper Heyford where I carried 240 rounds 90 per pouch, thirty in a shirt pocket. While I was in e UK we were issued the first generation of tac vests, and I was one of the few who used them. With the tac vest I carried my handcuffs in the grenade pouches, 120 rounds in the vest mag pouches (3 on the right side 1 on the left) I carried my Motorola Saber radio in the left double mag pouch, and I kept an ALICE 90 round mag pouch on my left hip with 90 rounds in it. I still carried two 1 quart canteens, and once I received the MCU-2AP gas mask I carried it clipped to my webbed belt with the thigh straps tucked into one of the pouches on the carrier, as I felt that they were tripping hazards,and couldn't cut them off. When I got to Minot I still wore the tac vest on duty, and wore ALICE gear at guard mount, as the 91st MW had a regulation dictating how the webbed gear was to be worn at guard mount. The only change that I made at Minot was to keep all of my magazines in the tac vest pouches, as I wore my brick radio on the back of my left shoulder clipped to one of the wide webbed strips of the vest's shoulder straps, and my hand mic clipped on the front of the opposite shoulder. I still have my tac vest, as I purchased one between the UK and Incirlik. I also purchased a Spyder Co knife at some point in USAFE, and carried it clipped to my BDU shirt behind the top most covered button. I tied a 6 inch piece of para cord with knots at the ends to pull it out quickly.

If you are drawn on someone, when approaching them to make the arrest, you can use your right hand to simultaneously pull your handcuffs while holstering your firearm. This is probably a stupid question but are the plates in the vest bullet proof or just stab proof? Edit: also very informative video! Thank you for your service!
@jalencroxton14715 жыл бұрын
They are bullet proof. They’ll probably hold up to about a 9mm bullet. And thank you for the support.

Those plates should be AR500, which is resistant to 7.62 and stab proof. Soft body armor resists pistol rounds, but is not able to stop knives.

Think jalen was talking about the Kevlar in the vest itself will stop 9mm, but should hold up to .45 also. The plates will stop a few 7.62.

Probably SAPI plates or ESAPI.

Does the security force get a lot of calls while on duty
@maverick39874 жыл бұрын
Zayne Strother depends on the base, missions, patrols, housing, etc.

Nice setup but I would remove the knife from the carrier and clip it inside the pocket and get some trauma shears instead. I also suggest getting yourself an ifak.

No ifak?

Get a Sig and get a weapon light a lot more convenient see if you can get your own set up just get a 9mm so same ammo works

I’d also get a better knife benchmade is the best I’d get maybe the triage or an infidel full size

Absolutely doesn't work like that. You must Carry what's issued.
