not to be all sad here but this made me cry thinking of things I lost in a major tornado. It's so true that these types of things are what a person misses in that situation and not the fancy furnishings or electronics. I miss old concert tees, love letters, photos and my yearbooks...not a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer in my favorite color or $$ boots! That stuff is replaceable.

Isn't it sweet how we all, no matter when/where we grew up, have very very similar kinds of items of sentimental value? I have two of these boxes, one in each of the two countries where I have roots (parents' house - country #1, my home - country #2) - I've thought of merging them but I don't want to lose that piece of attachment to my home country.

Lovely box! ☺️ As a tip, one thing I did after graduating college was scan and upload all 4 years of my notes onto my computer (Google drive), then threw away the physical copies. That way, I could still review them if needed and not carry them around when I move from place to place. Maybe it's something you could look into :)

I also live the “minimal life” Before this style of life I used to keep every single ticket or items that I got attached to. But I didn’t know where to put it , and wasting space. So I started a bullet journal , and also it was like a type of diary, and divided every page in 7 small boxes and in each box I write what happened that day, and if something important or I had like something small that I could glue to my BJ, I would stick it in that day. I have been doing this since I’m in middle school , Right now I’m in college and I have like 4 bullet journal completely full, like 2 years of my life written in each BJ . It’s really amazing reading them and remembering everything because of all I have glued or written.

I was a huge huge note passer in Middle School. I kept all of them over the years no matter how many times I declutter. I've been feeling guilty lately about them because I keep them even though I don't read them. Seeing a minimalist who still has chosen to keep them makes me feel better about myself. I'm glad you mentioned the fact that no one passes notes anymore. It makes me feel more special about keeping mine. Thank you
@UrsaAllen5 жыл бұрын
This was so interesting to watch and compare to my own sentimental box that I’ve been putting together while decluttering. I’m a year younger than you so I also have a binder full of notes my best friend and I would pass back and forth, little comics, and etc. Honestly feel bad for the current generation that will never know the fun of secretly passing notes during school 😂

I had journals exaaaactly like the bumble that I would exchange with like 4-6 friends at any given point and it operated like a chatroom. One person would have it for a class then would pass it to someone in the hallway who would pass it on and then we all took turns taking it home. It’s filled with stuff about music and twilight and we also drew endless comics.

Best advice I ever took: a lot of the time, pictures of sentimental items will work just as well as the real thing, and don't take up space. I've kept maybe five physical cards that were super important to me, but have digital pictures of probably 100+ more from when I was growing up. Just snap a picture of inside and out, and you can collect them all in digital form with no guilt

Other people have probably already said this but have you considered scanning the paper items to keep digitally? I did that with a giant box of all my artwork and a diary. Took a while but I'm glad I took the time to do that. I store mine on Google Drive so I can access it anywhere.

There’s this idea I came to after being a minimalist for a while. previously, if an item had a “decent” memory attached to it I would automatically decide “keep“. Now I recognize that, and then decide whether it really makes me happy or has a really good feeling attatched. (Just because I remember getting this wooden box when I was young, should I actually keep it and decide to move it from house to house again and again? Have I even used it/looked at it/read it/THOUGHT about it in the last 2-3-5 years?)

Keeping just the plaques of trophies is suh a good idea. Because the name and award we won it for is still there but the generic trophy cup really isn't necessary. Especially if it's from primary or secondary school which when your older, isn't really that much of an achievement to showcase in your apartment. But you still wanna keep the award cos you worked hard for it then. I've downsized my sentimentals to a small hand briefcase/suitcase thing. Still got some stuff I just didn't want to get rid of because I felt like I didn't have enough sentimentals. I realised that I held onto my sentimentals and tried to use them again and again that they got ruined and we're thrown out when we moved house, so now I just feel like the sentimentals I would cherish are gone and I'm holding on to non-sentimentals to remind me of the sentimentals. If that makes any sense.

As a nursing student, I'm a little concerned how you portray Ayahuasca so nonchalantly. While it is definitely a personal choice to take it, there are some severe drug interactions and it's not safe for everyone. I listened to an investigative podcast about taking it and toward the end there was a family speaking out about how they lost their loved one to suicide after they took Ayahuasca. I guess I wish you included a disclaimer being an ER Nurse.
