I actually love that Davenport dress on you. I suggest you wear it a few times and see if it grows on you. People will compliment you and perhaps change your mind!!❤

That is sweet. I will keep an open mind, but right now I just don’t want to wear it. I might try it with boots and tights just for yucks.

No regrets! Every garment is a lesson. ❤

Yes it was a lesson.

i bought the davenport a few years ago and have since concluded that it's not my style at all and i wouldn't like wearing it. so you're not alone! i think we all have to make mistakes like that. it's part of the learning process--sometimes you don't know until you try.

I think I will remember this lesson for a while! The Davenport took a lot of time to cut out and sew. You are right, it was a true learning experience. I still love the design, the dress turned out well, but I really don’t see me wearing it. It really opened my eyes to examining more closely what I make and why. I had given myself permission to destash so many patterns and fabric, but the Davenport had such a hold on me.

I want to say the Davenport you made is gorgeous and looks great on you! But I do love that dress. I made two for myself and have another one cut out. I made one in cotton and one in linen. The one that is cut out is in rayon. I have been stuck on this 3rd one because I don’t like the fabric much so am not feeling motivated to finish it. But, I actually wear the two I made all the time. I understand about making things you want to wear. I’ve made many a thing that stays in my closet or that I end up giving away because it just wasn’t my style.

I have a boat load of patterns that I've bought that are no longer my style. Live and learn my friend :).

I know what you mean about a boatload of patterns! I am bringing a bunch to Frocktails. Most if not all of them never used. 🙄

Christine, I totally get re being obsessed with something that is not your style. I learned that anything that has ruffles is not for me. But it's great that you got that dress out of your system. Otherwise, it would hunt you. I can't wait to see what you are planning to make in future
@ChristineSewsALotАй бұрын
It was haunting me. I do hope I learned to listen to that inner voice. I might have liked it a little better on me if it were not such a heavy linen. But I learned enough to pass on making another for me.
@mariontilton8494Ай бұрын
Christine I think the linen dress looks good on you. If you think it's a bit too fussy for you , you could remove the ruffle on the shoulder and that would be better.

Thank you.

Hi Christine, I’m a new subscriber to your channel 👋 Smashing video. Thank you. I love your new Jarrah, the colour looks really good on you. I’m so impressed with your happy accident that I’m going to try it on the next Jarrah I make ! Have a great week and lots of fun at Frocktails 😊x

Thank you! I love the color of my new Jarrah.

For the Davenport… I would remove the shoulder frills. They make the dress a but fussy - might be worth doing that? I’ve got two Davenport dresses, both with the shoulder frills, but both in a soft rayon so they fall well.

The heavy linen definitely impacts the look

Hi, you need a thread stand from wawak. I got one, and it's been fantastic to have. Keeps my machine happy. It's been a busy week here, so there has been no sewing😢.
@ChristineSewsALotАй бұрын
I will have to get one with my next order. Someone had given me one a few years ago, but it was super flimsy and I donated it. I should try again.

SQUEAL!!! I can’t wait! I do love my new Jarrah. If I get Charlie’s olive shirt sewn soon I might see if I can get more of the fabric I used for my Jarrah and make Charlie something. He is probably safe from twinning with me because my to sew list is very long.
@whatmandymadenext8120Ай бұрын
Love your jarrah the colour is perfect on you and your dresses are beautiful. Shame your not enjoying the linen dress but like you say it is the heaviness of the linen but I think it would look great with a pair of boots as you suggested. Xx

Shame about the dress, I've made mistakes with the weight of linen before. You think it will be ok but as a full garment it doesn't work out 😢 Love that sweater on you and the Ponte dress. Ponte is such a great fabric to sew isn't it ❤. Have fun at Frocktails and give Izzy a hug from me x
@ChristineSewsALotАй бұрын
The linen is very heavy 😂. I will give Izzy a big hug from you.

Your sweatshirt is great, and such a good colour on you! Also I wonder if you just wait a month or two, and try the dress on later, it is so pretty... maybe it would feel right . I actually took a top out of the 'cut up for parts' bin, and just tested it before cutting of sleeves etc.. and loved it! Sometimes it isn't what we envision so we are disappointed., but looks lovely once we lose our original expectations . Anyway, it is gorgeous !

When I googled thread lift, face lifts came up 🤣🤣. I know this community is too sweet for that. Must be a sewing gadget I am not aware of.
@KathyinKentuckyUSAАй бұрын
I got this a long time ago, my Bernina is older and loves the thread to be feed from a higher height. the feed is much smoother.I hope is works for you. I use bigger spools from Wawak too.
