As I'm planning to get a high-end classical straight razor, I've bought this extremely cheap low-end shavette to achieve the best skills. I believe that painful preparation and training makes for easy ultimate performance, so I expect switching to a classical straight razor will be a piece of cake. Today, I've done my second shave with this Bluebeard junk, and besides getting some five or six nicks I achieved a nice, smooth result. I suppose I'll take some ten more shaves with this, and I'll buy a Thiers-Issard instrument. Straight razors are fun to use.

Good video Dan. It reminded me of some of the shaves John Maclennan used to do back in the day on TBS. ;) But when I was toying with straights and shavettes I always found the shavettes to be less forgiving of mistakes.

You did well Danny, keep practicing we all went through it when we started, I started on the Bluebeard's Revenge shavette before i got my first straight razor, yes you're right straight razors are a bit easier (although not more forgiving) because the feedback from a hollow ground is amazing like no other and it tends to have some sort of flex for a bit of lee way or 'give' during a pass which makes judging very easy with the blade contact to your skin.

You said shaving with a shavette is more difficult than with a DE. That might be partially due to the tension the the DE curve gives the blade, while a shavette only clamps the blade. Tension should stabelize the blade and it's edge.

I recently bought this shavette and I found I cut a lot but then I figured out that if I keep my skin stretched I get a better shave and no cuts so going to order a nice Damascus straight razor now

I just got a shavette recently and it is pretty difficult to shave with at first....the nicks are way more bloody with a shavette.

To all fellow wet shavers and esp.shavette shavers.first use very thick and high quality lather from soap or cream.always crook the blade before first use.shave the neck half atg from the base and then half wtg from the upside.never pass from the same area twice after the lather is gone.if you cut yourself press the bleeding area with an ice cube and do not shave there again the same day.your first 30 shaves always wtg so your hand will get used.hope it helps.don't worry after time you ll be better.

i think you should try to stretch your skin when shaving and also shave with small strokes
