Norra Nordic Regional Airlines Flight from Helsinki to Tallinn.
Norra airlines ATR 72-500 flight experience.
Come and join me on my shortest International flight in years, flying a twin engine turbo prop from Helsinki Airport to Tallinn with a flight time of just 18 minutes.
This flight was part of a fantastic business class fare to Estonia from the United Kingdom. With prices at around 222 GBP you could fly from London to Tallinn via Helsinki in Business class and experience the Airbus A350-900 flat beds on the route.

It is the shortest International flight I have ever taken at just 63 miles in distance between the two cities, thankfully I got a window seat and a nice sunny day to record the entire flight.

Cool video to document this route. The video is longer than the flight time. Liked and thumbs up just for that ;)

Don't you just love the people getting on the bus, knowing there are dozens of people behind them, who sloooowwwwww down in the doorway to do something with their phone?

Ahh the modern world we live in now :) I also hate it when people with phones just stop when walking along to read something on a busy street and just stand there.

I love when the camera's frame rate and the propeller speed synch, and it makes it look like the prop isn't turning at all, or it's going backwards...LOL!.
@Whenitraveltheworld
@Whenitraveltheworld 6 жыл бұрын
Yes that's the fun thing about props, another comment below posted a video of a bird flying that was filmed and with the frame rate it looked like the bird was not flapping its wings at all, it was interesting to see.

Hi James! Interesting video on this very short flight. Haven’t seen many reports about this flight, must be an interesting experience being in the air for just 18 minutes. Seems to be more than enough demand if you look at how full the flight was :) Brendan

Thanks Michael. I'm honestly not a very big fan of ATR's at all, but as I needed to make it to Tallinn it was my only choice for the great price. More a Jet Engine guy myself. Thanks for watching and the comment as always. It's actually an old intro logo, i'm just recycling it.

Woaa, great video, next stop muscling in on the full flight London to Perth market ;) . Nice change and great weather to do this flight on. I do like turboprop flights, seems more like flying being closer to the ground and more effects from the outside air masses. Amazing how it can take off with the prop blades turning so slowly !! :)
@Whenitraveltheworld
@Whenitraveltheworld 6 жыл бұрын
I leave the full flight videos of that Length to my friend Inflight Video - He did a full flight of London to Perth :). I love filming prop blades, as they don't spin that slowly, its just the strange camera effect. Thanks for watching and the comment.

@zakelwe 6 жыл бұрын
yeah that was my joke. There have been birds filmed on security cameras where their wings do not flap at all ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/iomXhmyHh8epn6M Inflight videos is brilliant. It took him longer to upload the video to youtube of the London to Perth flight than the actual flight. Golly. I started watching it and then my wife wanted something doing just over the English Channel. Need to go back to it. Keep up the good work. Would be nice to see some prop plane vids in Scotland including the islands / beaches

Nice one. LUX to FRA the other week took me 35 mins in-the-air time.......then another 30mins from wheels-on-tarmac to Schengen entry door courtesy of a very long taxi in to an outside stand followed by a bus ride to the terminal. I thought that was quite impressive....

That's pretty quick also, Thankfully I was off this plane and through immigration in about 10 minutes from when we touched down as Tallinn airport is so small.

I have done that flight. Helsinki airport was my first contact with a vending machine that refused coins AND cards. The only option to pay was sending an SMS. I allso thought about a possible flight from Vienna to Bratislava but I think it no longer exists. Bus or train are good alternatives for that short distance.

James, my very first flight, in 1966, was from Boston's Logan Airport to Providence's Green Airport, a distance of 49 miles (79km). It was on the old Northeast Airlines (long since merged into Delta), on a milk run flight that continued on from Providence to New York JFK and then my destination of Baltimore (now BWI). Also, it was on a Boeing 727. (My return flight went from BWI to JFK and then Boston, skipping Providence.)
@Whenitraveltheworld
@Whenitraveltheworld 6 жыл бұрын
Oh nice, I know that Cape Air still fly the route from Boston Logan to PVD, I have always thought about taking it myself, but they fly it with a cessna. So to see a Boeing 727 on that route would be great.
@hmpstd
@hmpstd 6 жыл бұрын
In the so-called good old days before deregulation of the aviation industry, the smaller carriers were under intense pressure to make maximum utilization of their expensive new jet toys, er, equipment. I believe that Northeast acquired its 727s for primary use on the winter run between JFK and Miami, but had to put them to use on milk runs in the warmer months. In the same vein, I once flew an Eastern L-1011 (which had originated in San Juan) on its last two flight legs, from JFK to Hartford's Bradley Airport (106mi/171km), and then from BDL to Logan (91mi/146km). Back in those regulation days, the daytime economy fare was the same as the nighttime (after 9pm) first class fare, so this was also my first and so far only first class flight experience. God, but that plane was a beauty!
@Whenitraveltheworld
@Whenitraveltheworld 6 жыл бұрын
I did love the L1011, a shame I never got to fly on it. I do love it when airlines use Large jets or just jets on small routes, always makes my day, and those are really large jets. I flew this same route on an ERJ also, but the prop was more fun. I wish you could still get the shuttle service tickets, where you used to just show up and jump on at a set same price no matter when you booked it. Those were the good old days.
@hmpstd
@hmpstd 6 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Last time I took the shuttle, it was still the original Eastern Shuttle, in the 70s. Back then, it was easier to wheel out an old prop plane to handle the excess demand, but the current duopoly of American and Delta are too cheap to pay for standby jets. That's progress for you.

It's a great service between the two capital cities. I took a fast ferry to Tallinn from Helsinki last year and flew back to HEL with Nora (as part of an open jaw ticket from LHR). I published videos on both trips. Back to Estonia soon and will try this time Airbaltic

Cool video often saw this flight on Flightradar and wondered if its booked well, considering the numerous fast ferries that travel between Tallin and Helsinki, but it seems quite well booked. Such flights might be the first to be electric or powered by alternative fuels.
@Whenitraveltheworld
@Whenitraveltheworld 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the comment. Yes I flew this flight about 8 times and I can confirm that all the flights I have been on have been full, which amazed me, I had no idea it would be so busy, as you rightly stated with the amount of ferries on the route. Would be great to see an electric flight.

Thanks for the video! The last time I traveled from Helsinki to Tallinn there still was a helicopter service selling cheap 50e last minute o/w tickets, that was cool. Now they are planning an undersea rail tunnel to link the two cities, that would create a real twin city.. Talsinki? Helinn? ,)
