Sounds like some serious daddy issues. The whole step-sister origin scenario gives me the impression there's a not-so-great father figure imprinted in Karen's mind & that's why she's drawn to a sleazebag like Ken. So my gut is to suspect Ken is the negative influence which would explain why OP finds Karen's behaviour so surprising and out of character for sisters that otherwise seem to have been close. Ken shows up at the house he isn't allowed at, Ken's fantasy is the big kickoff, Ken's baby, Ken is absent when any sort of "what do we do about this baby" talk is going on but shows up again to break into someone's house and change the locks. Karen's actions don't make much sense, but the pieces come together a little better if you consider them an extension of Ken's motives. Getting deported is probably the best thing for her, it forcibly removes Ken from the picture, gets a family member looking after her, and being a single mother might even deter future guys like him. Still, if she doesn't sort herself out, she'll find a way to get involved with someone just as bad in home country.

Do they actually share the same father figure? I didn't catch the exact details of the "step sibling" situation. But "step" relatives are bound by marriage, not blood. So that generally involves at least one different bio-parent between them. And the "father figure" could be anyone, birth father who left the picture at a young age, mom's new boyfriend, a teacher / some other mentor, a creepy uncle etc.

Thus why she was the only one recognized by their paternal grandmother. I can't imagine how scary that was... I have heard of this one story where this girl was dating this guy and the guy had a thing for the girls little sister so she went as far as to drug her little sister and allow her boyfriend to r*pe her sister... It also doesn't help that the sister was a child. The little sister ended up having a bad reaction to the drug that they used on her and ended up choking on her own vomit and dying. It's truly terrible whenever you trust someone and then they offer you up to some creep. I have even went through it with my foster mom offer me up to some Muslim guy... Thankfully nothing happened and I was able to get as far away from my foster mom as soon as I turned 18. But you will be surprised how often this happens from family members, friends, so on... i had an ex friend who i thought was a good person only to find out they are an extremely 'woe-is-me' narcissist. She basically left her parents, who just lost their house for dead, to move in with her boyfriend and his family (his mom hate's her and rightfully so'). She ended up cheating on him with some guy who needed papers at the time, and since she didn't make enough she asked me for help and I unwillingly agreed. Even after multiple times of stating that I was uncomfortable and I didn't want to do it she kept pushing and I found out she submitted the documents with out my knowledge. Then, and I don;t know what the hell is wrong with her, but she tried to offer me to her ex as a new potential partner. I would rather get hit by a truck and get my vocal cords cut. Ew. I ended up cutting off all ties with her but now it really bothers me that they are using my name for something I didn't even want to do.

I'm a reserve person and calmly assess any situation but if I was infertile (I pray to God everyday that I am not) and someone just goes for that spot then I would be throwing hands, I feel guilty to a lot of things but punching the person who hit me where it hurts, no way will I feel guilty about this, especially if that person knows that my drive in life and what keeps me going is the fact that in the future I want to become a parent, like, how dare they, they just crossed the line at that point, and there's no going back

I think I heard another part of this story before, that after Karen was deported she started taking things so the baby would be disabled so she could get money. The baby either died or was taken from her at the hospital and op's family isn't allowed to take it, but it was adopted by a couple who had experience with the disability the baby ended up having. Than Ken started stalking op and threatening/stalking op's foster kid too. Op had to go through a ton of legal things to be allowed to fully adopt/still foster her kid while moving out of state. Obviously I don't fully remember it all perfectly but I think that's the update after.

I've heard this story before on an different chennel, I personally believe that guy must of had her strung out on something. Because that the only way her behavior makes sense. As it sounds like she went from 0 to holy shit over the span of a few months. I don't know the back round of these sisters prior to this but it didn't sound like they were on bad terms as Op was willing to share her inheritance with her when didn't need too. I've seen this kinda of change in behavior before in my step dad when he got hooked on that shit. So I think being deported was likly best thing for her sister as it forcefully removed what was essentially her dealer out of her life. While op is 100 per-cent not the a-hole I do think she should maybe keep tabs (not contact just tabs) on her just to see if maybe that was the case and if she managed to get better.

I do not think the OP was a jerk, she was trying her best to help and accept her sister and yet Karen decided to try and take advantage of the OP and ended up screwing herself over and got herself into the mess she's in. Hopefully the OP and Mary as well as the rest of the family are okay now, and that Karen got what she deserved.
