Hi there, so sorry for your bad experience. It sounds like you are truly hurting. Without a doubt this lady needs to be reported. I’m happy you found a new sister lock loctician. She sounds like a she is a professional who wants to guide you. Wishing you the best on your hair journey.

I don’t see anything “wrong” with the sizing. It’s more of your personal preference. If you really want sister locs then you have to start over, but if you can learn to love the micro locs and just let them thrive, I think they will be beautiful. I’m a micro loc girlie, self installed. I love them. I didnt love them at first (thought I looked crazy) but the journey was humbling. I learned to love the raw & uncut me & that lesson was priceless. Trust the process

I'm sooo sorry this happened to you, but if it were me, I would take the time to take all of it down. That way you can reestablish your grid. It will take a lot of time, but starting over will be worth your happiness in the long run. I definitely wouldn't do a big chop. Just wear headband wigs or something until the process is done. At least your educated on sisterlocs and faulty locticians now. You'll get through this...Just be patient....Blessing to you Sis!!

Your sis really did a great job on your initial installation; a shame your loctician ruined it. I live in the UK, in a city with only one trainee and I didn't want to have to travel almost 2 hours to and from an appointment to the nearest city where there are sisterlock consultants that come highly recommended. So I installed my microlocs with a grid that allows me put the front half in cornrows for work. It did take almost 5 weeks (6" of hair and in between a full-time job), and almost gave up but I persevered especially as I had previously fallen victim of a terrible hair stylist. I am now 3 months in, and very happy with my hair. It does take a while to re-tie, but I like that I am not at the mercy of anyone. I may look for a consultant sometime in the future but I am perfectly happy to do my hair for now. I hope you are able to resolve the issue and wish you the best on this journey.,

I'm sorry that happened to you. Thanks for sharing your story. It's very important that you see a certified sister locs loctician when you decide to embark on this journey.

Never feel stuck! You can do whatever you wanna do with your hair. This just goes to show it’s best to learn how to do your own hair! There are AMAZING stylists out there! But for every amazing stylist there’s 15 bad ones who don’t show any care or calculation. It’s safer to take your hair into your own hands! But if you don’t, that’s okay too. I established my own locs on heat damaged hair 😂 but still I’m loving the journey and I did them EXACTLY how I wanted them. Like you said KZbin is a good teacher. I have micro-ish small locs but still it only takes me 1.5-2.5 hours to retwist my hair. Retightens can take up to 12 hours. I wouldn’t even want to sit in someone’s chair for that long let alone do it myself. Sisterlocs/microlocs take extreme dedication. I wish you could’ve had a nice loctician to begin with! Your journey isn’t over and you don’t have to settle. ❤
@eristotle23809 ай бұрын
i love your locs. they look just fine to me -- still very small, but not too small. if you planned on having locs for a long time, then it might be better to leave them the way they are. many women have issues down the road with the small size of SL. i wish i could have started with a slightly larger size, because after 12 years, my hairline has suffered because of the softer texture and the (lack of) density. even if your hairline is full, you'll still always be anxious about the 14", super skinny loc at your hairline. it's not worth it.
@TwistedTalesofTrueCrime9 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you. I have had my sister likes going on seven years this year and I wish I would’ve just combined them early on and that was the message I left for her. She may not believe it right now but to me I’m of the thought process that it is great that they have been combined the way they are. She actually has a beautiful grid and to be honest as the years pass. That grid is not all that important is the health of your hair that’s more important than your grid on your scalp. When I first got my Lokia I was hung up on the grid but now please I prefer healthy scalp and locks over anything that has to do with a grid. Don’t give me wrong. I still have a grid there but it’s not perfect anymore because I have combined some locks and I’m happy I did that. Locks around my edges. I will never let them grow very long because long hair around your edges will cause traction alopecia in anybody’s locks, so I maintain shorter locks around my crown area in the front. That’s a pro tip.

Your locs really are fine. Regarding the two-headed dragons, I've had them with traditional locs and they ALWAYS joined evenly. If you were to twist them together they will loc just like people who start they're locs with two-strand twists. I have sisterlocks currently. I love how my SLs look but a thicker loc is better, healthier in my opinion.
@teejalanae3898 ай бұрын
i agree. a little thicker is better in the long run
@TwistedTalesofTrueCrime9 ай бұрын
I honestly don’t think she ruined your Sister Locs. I have Sister Locs in a long run. I had to end up combining my locks and I wish they were a little bit thicker. Because the thinner they are as you get more years behind you your hair can thin out at the Root, and that’s something they don’t tell you with Sister Locs. Your hair is absolutely beautiful. I understand you probably didn’t want all of them to be combined like that and it is challenging when another loctician tells you that. I think the ones that are like two and three dragons you can use a tool to, combine them all the way down but as far as your grid, you still have a nice grid there. Your hair is beautifully healthy. It took me over two years before my hair fully locked. I had to combine a lot of them my fifth and six year. I wish I would’ve just combined them early on.I actually think it’s a good thing that they were combined honestly.

Kera I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through. I appreciate you sharing I know it’s a painful thing to go through. I had a loctition who wasn’t a sisterlock loctition retie my hair and she did it so tight that my edges came out from the roots. This was 6 months ago and I’m still trying to salvage some of them that are hanging on by strings. I was devastated for months. But I found a good loctition and my hair is thriving. I believe that every one will make mistakes at some point in their journey. I know you’ll make a good decision for you and your hair.💕

It sucks that you’ve had this experience. I definitely would report her. That’s basically scamming people and creating trauma and damage. It’s one thing to cut your hair bc you want to but in this case if the grid and having actual sisterlocs is truly what you want- getting a second set is the option. The positive is you already have the right person and you’ll have time to save. Microlocs are beautiful too! Tough decision especially with negative emotions at the forefront but prayerfully the decision you come to will be the one that works for the long run! Good luck on your journey going forward!!

Locs aren’t for everyone and sometimes you have to experience that to figure it out. I dont have time or interest to examine every loc on my head. All my locs don’t look the same, didn’t form the same, don’t feel the same. Yet, my hair is beautiful and I’m constantly complimented and being asked questions about my locs. Until I was completely comfortable and confident, I worried about my locs not being perfect all around IN MY OPINION. Now I appreciate my gorgeous head of hair and am grateful for what I have.

So sorry to hear what you're going through. Please do not cut your hair It would be better to just let them grow out and start again It's sad that soo many folks doing sisterlocks, even some that are certified don't know hair care and maintenance. Unfortunately loctiction don't have to have any experience with hair to take the class, just pay and go. If i was in your situation i would either slowly and gently take them down or let them grow out . If you decide to redo them , make sure you look at their work. All of them have pictures of their work. Never ever again let anyone combine yoyr locks unless they can show you it's thinning etc. Finally my dear. It should take time to do to your retights, because if they finish in 2 to 3 hours you are not getting a complete rotation, its not possible. Peace to you Queen..

So sorry this happened to you. I can truly empathize with you as my story is very similar. I started my microloc journey on my own while vacationing in a few countries in Africa. My first retie was done at a loc salon in Ghana. The service was awful; they did different types of rotations, they also didn't protect the grid and my head felt very sore because the retie was way too tight. Moreover, I decided to give a try my luck with a new loctician in Ethiopia for my second retie. This loctician was a smooth-talker and convinced me to combine some my microlocs because it would be healthier for my hair. After the service, I paid and tipped her well. However, I deeply regretted it because after closely inspecting my hair, I noticed that she had made several triple and double-headed dragons and had even cut and poorly reattached a few locs without telling me. It was so depressing. What i ended up doing was letting my hair grow out for a few months. I ended up cutting my microlocs completely out because if I just combed them out, my hair would be uneven in some parts due to the locs that were cut. So, I your locs were not only combined and not cut, you could just comb them out or cut them a length where you are comfortable in combing the rest out. Hope this helps ❤

OMG! I feel so bad for you. First, your sister did a beautiful job with your locs, they looked great. I was going to say, just take down the ones in the front, if you can deal with them being larger or comb them out, one by one. I combined a few of my grandson locs, I twisted them, then I crocheted them together and now, you cannot tell they had been combined. I started my loc journey a little over a year ago with waist length hair. I just cut them all off, first because I did not like the size, I wanted them smaller. Why I cut them off opposed to combing them out? I have very little use of my left arm, due to a medical condition and why I decided to loc my hair in the first place. It had become difficult maintaining waist length hair (natural). My arm would hurt badly and go numb. I will be starting over with smaller/Microlocs next weekend (had to postponed doing so due to having spent eight days in the hospital and still recovering). So, again, your choice but if you decided to keep what has been done, you can repair the dragonhead ones by crocheting them together, YT videos on this, it really does work, or cut them off and start over, your hair will grow back, and fast, good luck.

I went 5 months without a re-tie and I was over it. fast forward 1 year later and my hair is doing great! don't give up, let your hair grow out and embrace the unique differences of your locs. You are beautiful and your hair is beautiful.

It’s HER HAIR, that she has on her head and has to live with every day of HER LIFE. It’s valid for Black women to have a preference for bigger/smaller locs, grid/no grid, neat vs freeform based in her personality and her preference or whatever she feels she wants for HER HAIR. Respect Black women’s freedom to choose what they want to do with their own hair. That’s freedom.😅 This is a video in which she is sharing a story about being scammed by someone claiming to be a professional who didn’t respect what she wanted and asked for, for HER HAIR. How are you gonna respond to that with ‘be free?’ Empathy is NOT that hard and neither should respecting what Black women want with something as sacred to healing as THEIR NATURAL HAIR. Lack of empathy is a disease of the heart and an enemy of sisterhood. Peace and love sisters. ❤

I know this video is a month old. Dont know what decision you decided to make. But here's my advice. I too had the same problem with the two headed dragon. I painstakingly untied all the two-headed dragon back to two individual whole mini/sis-loc. It can be done with patience. You can take a month and do them in sections; instead of taking them down completely. You have to be gentle, but its not as hard as you make think it is. Wish I was there to help you get done...😢

I'm so sorry you experienced this. Similar thing happened to my sister. Only difference is - it was the Sisterlocks consultant who did her install that gave her microlocs for Sisterlocks money. She chose to keep them, and her subsequent consultant spent a couple of years splitting them to get them over 300; and my sister's hair is THICK 4c. I told her then to report the lady who did her install so that nobody else would suffer what she had. She refused. Personally, I think reporting is the kind thing to do if you want to be your sister's keeper. But then again, I understand wanting to focus on yourself and get your hair where you want it to be, rather than on other potential victims. Like so many others have said - your hair is still beautiful. You could combine the dragons by twisting to the end, or wait for them to matt a bit and chop off the extra arms on each loc. Either way, you are beautiful Sis.

I feel bad for you, that wasn’t a good reason to combine your locs. Please listen to your mom, don’t chop it off. During the take down just wear wigs cause the process takes a bit of time, even though it maybe long and tedious but in the long run, you will achieve your desired look. I am presently taking down my microlocs, it was done by my sister who is not a loctician and some of my hair is bigger than some, plus I had a couple other issues. I plan get a redo by a professional once I am done. The trainee should be made aware that what she did was messy, who wants to go around with hair as is plus with the problems you will face if you don’t sort them out. God forbid she mess up someone else’s hair. She definitely needs to redo her training… smh… you’re beautiful. God bless, all the best to you.

This happened to me too, I suffered for two years and then I just ended up cutting all my hair off and starting over with something I was happy with. Good luck on your journey. I’m sorry that there are people in this world that behave this way. Just know that you have a support system and we’re here watching and cheering you on😊

Being unsatisfied with how your hair looks is not suffering. If you’re that obsessed with hair and vanity in the world we live in today that you call it suffering, you have much deeper issues to address.

I understand that the hair still looks good but I don't think anybody has a right to combine your locs without checking what you lime first. I had to comb out my locs because it was combined without my permission and this makes it gather lint. And yes! They combined them to save time. It's so unfair.

Seems like she combines your loc because she perhaps was tired of doing your reties. So in order to maybe make the process go faster she lied

This is a horrible horrible story. The impatience of some ppl. Why do you like that!!!! I have microlocs and I feel so sorry for you. I would say take them down. I took mine down to redo them and I work from home and it took 2 weeks. So whether you work from home or not it's gonna be a tedious process. But just think about the final outcome. You will finally get what you've always wanted and you're going to live them. I hope you continue in your journey.❤

Its the wild wild west out there for small locs and if you arent an educated consumer doing your own research there are people willing to take advantage. Sucks that this happened to you. I would take this as a sign to DIY. I wouldnt trust anyone else at this point. Your locs will be beautiful you just have to accept this is how they are now. Also big picture your locs are uniquely yours this quest for "perfect locs" is a recipe for disappointment and sadness. Im seeing this quest for perfection in both the traditional loc and Sisterlocs/microlocs community and its unhealthy. Locs are supposed to help free you from mental slavery to white ideals of beauty. Why are folks in the loc community shackling themselves to some mythical idea of perfection that doesnt exist?

I am there with you so disappointed with my locs after starting over twice. I have another appointment with another loctician praying that she can help me. I think you look beautiful, but do understand your pain as I am going through a similar issue. We will get what we want and our hair will be beautiful in Jesus name.

I think your hair looks good. I think we make too much fuss over grids. I would take my time and comb out the ones that are the “Worst” just take you time and do a little each day until it is done. You will save yourself some money and headache. You can’t leave it “as is” because you’re not happy with it. I would not take them all out or cut them off. Absolutely Not!!!!

I honestly love your locks and I know you wanted to traditional sister lock method and grid. I believe that’s what you said but I feel like they look good at the size they are yeah you wanted them smaller but I’ll say just twist the Dragon heads down and just embrace, the new thickness you have you know ? and honestly, I’ll say be a DIY girly right now lol and save some munyun and fix yo parts in a front then I feel like you’ll be sad and you’ll like your locks more than you do now. but they are very beautiful by the way!!

Its sad that you put your trust in someone who is supposed to be knowledgeable about the service provided to you only for them to do the opposite. Whatever you decide I hope you're able to enjoy the journey.
