I need an alocasia repot video Alice! Like a follow up or part 2 to this one pleaseee. I love alocasias. I had soo many in the past 8 months of plant collecting but now I am down to a black velvet, a silver dragon, and a bisma growing in straight water from soil. I really want to grow my alocasia collection this summer

I find corm propagation so delightful too! I got a baggie from a friend before that had 20+ corms in it of all kinds of Alocasia and it was so much fun watching them sprout and guessing which plants they would end up being

Im in a fb alocasia groupnm and Cuprea is totally popular still. I actually just bought one last month and im in love!! It cane with one corm and one that sprouted and had one leaf so my cabinet is full of shiney purple cuprea goodness lol. I was never an alocasia fan but i love the 3 i now have

I feel like growing them from corm is the smartest thing! My jacklyn grew from a corm to giving me a leaf the length from my elbow to my fingertips in just over a year. 20-40% humidity and in pon^^

I love that you and Sherman have the same video esp I have been in my alocasia journey as well 😅. Lovely collection as always and now I have added more on my wishlist! Btw hold off on buying variegated alocasia as I think they will become so cheap this coming year. I am from asia (Philippines) and I got a variegated black velvet (that di3d) and a variegated bambino for about 4 USD, they are making TC of them like crazy. I am not gonna be surprised if they sell in garden centers soon.

Hi there! I think that the reason why your Frydek has not been growing as much is probably because of all the green algae around it. I believe that the green algae is slowly blocking out all of the oxygen from getting into your substrate. Therefore slowly suffocating your plant. Once you clean the pon and the vessel is clear again, it should grow more leaves. Also I’d suggest less light to help it get back more green into the leaves. I have a variegated Frydek about the same size as yours and it has 7 leaves. Good luck!

Girl!! Your alocasia collection is amazing 😻!! I’m a sucker for the silver dragon and the cuprea! Thanks so much for sharing your collection so beautifully arranged!! I’m now putting that sandersinia, excuse the spelling, on my wishlist! Have a great day

I’d say the natural texture of the 'Mello' leaf is why that white powdery residue shows up… nooks & crannies. The powder might actually just be the dried peppermint oil, I think you said? Usually to get stuff off like that, I’ll just use plain rubbing alcohol (or slightly diluted); if you buy 75% isopropyl, it’s already diluted plenty… but you can of course dilute it more. If you are scared (don’t be), just don’t put it in bright light right after. Another good solution for wiping the leaves of plants (even textured ones) is the unscented, "natural" baby wipes. Or any kind of "natural", perfume-free wipe… it almost doubled as a leaf shine! For some reason, I’ve used it on everything and it really helps to leave shimmer and get clean without causing any problems. I figure if it’s unscented and it’s marketed for babies then plants should be OK.

I love alocasia’s and have several. I was lucky enough to find a Scalprum. I have 2 cupra in self watering pots in soil and they are doing so good.

I also had a variegated frydek go all white and die on me. I put the corm in some moss hoping it might come back but it’s been a couple months with no new growth so I don’t have high hopes. For now I’m focusing on saving up for a pink var black velvet which is my ultimate wishlist plant. I’m starting to see the very small ones come down in price from $600+ to $200-300 which is way more than I’m typically comfortable with but I just can’t wait any longer lol. I’ve also seen some TC’s for about $150. I’d also love to get my hands on a minty pink cuprea and an albo maharani but those are still pretty rare and way out of my price range.

My Jacklin died so fast, too. But I grew it in soil and I had the luck to save a good piece of the stem. After I put that in leca it recovers and now I have a Baby-Jacky. XD A glass of leca with a lil bit of water in my terrarium are THAT save recipe for all my trouble alos.

Mine has been living in soil just fine for some reason. It is quite inorganic, though. Maybe it needs the extra air.

I've killed so many alocasia trying to move them to PON. Now, when I bring in a new alocasia I'll plant it in a heavy TFF/Aroid soil mix in no drainage with a lecca layer. When I get corms, I grow them in PON or fluval and those seedlings go into PON. This method has been working better for me. I've lost a lot less alocasia this way.

I believe alocasias flower in pairs to increase the likelyhood that they won't go extinct. If theres two flowers, the older inflorescence can be pollinated by the newer one.

Are alocasias pest magnets or is it just me? I accidentally discovered i could keep mine alive and well in a self watering pot. I have to check DAILY for pests. Would like to get more but have other life events that need ongoing attention also!

Thank you for sharing your alocasia collection and care! Was your scalprum always dark? I purchased a couple of starters a few Months back and they are green with a some purple on the back. I’ve been moving them around to different lighting to see if that would help but it hasn’t. My hope now is that it simply comes with maturity 🤞 Also… I spray all of my plants with straight 70% alcohol (even my velvety plants) to kill random pest when I see them and keep the plants out of direct light for a bit. I’ve not had any problems whatsoever.
@youdontevengrowhere9 ай бұрын
Yes my scalprum was always dark but when I got it from a garden centre it was a small (but not baby) plant! Growing them from corm I noticed it does take a few leaves to start hardening off black. Also I mentioned the 99% not damaging the emergent leaf because the same spray would absolutely destroy an emergent anthurium leaf but I usually have no issues on fully hardened leaves of any genus!

I got my first Alocasia poly from my son 2 mothers days ago and it has done super. I am growing 4 babies from it. This summer I found a small stingray and it has doubled in leaves already. Looking for a Jacklyn and a zebrina. Hoyas are my fav then philodendron so I don’t have a lot of room but love that last Alocasia you have. Spider mites go after my Calathea so they haven’t gotten at my Alocasia yet

Sanderiana is also my favorite, good to know that it doesn't hold much leaves at once, was already a little worried that there is some issue with the roots since I also have it in soil mix. I just saw that it is pushing a new leaf so I assume that's not a issue when it is growing 🙏 Thank you for the nice video 🥰
@aidensiessmayer56159 ай бұрын
For the frydek why don't you stack some moss in the gap and air layer it before cutting?

Happy Sunday! I’ve also got very few alocasia left now, used to have 18 different varieties vs 4 currently. Only the least dramatic ones have been allowed to stay, but discovering semi hydro a few years back was a game changer. so much easier to keep them happy in pon 😄 Also - finally getting a baby Wendlingeri this week because of you 💃🎉
