My Sony A7SIII is new again! - Firmware Update 3.00!

I won't be updating mine. The new firmware completely changes native ISO settings when using PRORES RAW / Ninja V. It goes from 640/12800 to 80/1600

I know some people had trouble with their updates, and I’ve seen people say it bricked their camera? Guessing maybe they skipped the intermediate Firmware or something. But I installed this update on multiple a7sIII BODIES and it’s been wonderful. Really breathed new life into my favorite camera of all time. Although, investing hours recustomizing wasn’t awesome lol but at least I could copy a finished customization over to the rest of the bodies.

Eye's tracking is not working as well as the prevuious firmware. The target in the eye goes somtime out of focus with no reason...

@@RogerAVHansen we are many of french operators who noticed the change. It's obvious for us. The eye target goes wild somtime for no reasons. Before this update, it was locked. Hope a correction will arrive soon..

I thought it was a good update for my use of the camera. The anti dust feature is a game changer for me, 24p when filming on bigger productions, love the new interface it feels like a whole new camera. Focus breathing was a plus for me as well. Oh yeah, and the DCI 4K.

great update but i have some quastion if there is an answer, i have a AF/MF funcion custom key , in shooting mode when i change from af to mf the focus mode dont dissapear is any way there are a setting for this to fix it ? , also the focus peaking keeps on af, im really thinking go back one version... :/

it is greyed out in the menu, because it only works with selected sony GM native lenses. Doesnt work with any of my sigma art primes.

Yeah, all my settings were deleted. But I was smart! I saved the settings so I can load them in the new firmware. When I went to load them...uh...er...camera said file couldn't be loaded. Back to the drawing board. But I welcome all the updates nevertheless! I don't have the manage licenses in the setup option menu though...?

Great update for a7s3 but i wished they put more video functions like the fx3 it should be the same cause they are 100% similair , did not have issues with updates but i was not covinced on updates on the A1 cause i had problems previously 2 years ago on the wifi comunications sytem that wouldnt work same issue then and same issue now ! Sony should gauranty their firmware updates like apple does . its absurd that sony will break high end camera and the customer should pay for it . buttom line Sony should do a recall on the A1 comunications issues or face a law suit like big car manufacturers

@@RogerAVHansen the answer is simple Sony wants to market to many of the same with minor options and this is exactly why they can’t keep up with customer service and firmware updates if money is everything it’s not all or nothing we should have a balance look at Nikon and Panasonic they might sell less but they have a market with less and better qualities overall

@@kaufmanwriter by default if you swipe from the left or right side in to the middle the side menus should appear. If you swipe from the middle and out to one of the sides it should disappear. If you swipe up from the bottom the Fn menu should appear, and if you swipe it back down it should disappear. But this is by default after the update. You are able to change the swipe gesture in the menus settings. I don’t really know why it doesn’t go away when you swipe it back unfortunately.. 💁🏼‍♂️

Hi, this firmware is breaking the dual iso for external raw recording with the ninja v, did you had this trouble? now the dual iso is 80/1600 instead of 640/12800 in prores raw) and you have to put the iso on auto to reach 80... did you noticed that too?

Haven’t tried the RAW output after updating, but I did see people commenting on this on FB. I hope Sony registers all these bugs people are finding and then comes out with a new update, 3.0.1., that fixes all these things 😊

Ooooh, there is still life in that old dog of a camera then :D Gotta be honest, the A7SIII is really my dream camera, yet so unattainable for now - as for the imaging edge-app … I tried it when I borrowed an A6100 a year ago, and it was HORRIBLE (the app, not the A6100) - it was everything an app shouldn’t be: unstable, weird UI choices, looked like trash and didn’t do the job it was supposed to do - who ever made that app *really* didn’t know what they where doing :/

Guess I haven’t missed out on that much by not using the app then 😅 The ZV-E1 has the same sensor as the A7SIII but with a cheaper price, so maybe that could be an option? But you don’t get a EVF, two SD-card slots and a couple other things.. 💁🏼‍♂️

well, the breathing compensation is only supported on GMaster lenses and not other Sony lenses. I upgraded to 3.0 and none of my lenses are supported and it is not like they are bad lenses. I am an underwater cinematographer and having this available for my Sony Macro lenses would have been fantastic. A no go. So, Sony went for the announcement and only partially supported this fantastic feature. A lot of time was spent updating this feature as they wipe out all your settings only to find this big feature does not even work on any of my lenses. I am really quite upset with Sony. They don't even say when or if there will be an update for this feature for the other lenses.

It’s not only GM lenses that is supported, there’s 18 out of 34 Sony lenses, that’s not GM lenses, that is supported. That makes 16 lenses GM lenses.

@@RogerAVHansen OK. That is good to know but that is a lot of omitted lenses - nearly 50%. I mean you either support the feature or you don't. Since they don't keep any of your settings you have to go through every setting, save them, and then put them back.

lol you are literally correct … but also… what? 😅 it certainly feels new and has a bunch of useful new tools, including focus assist, which is like my favorite focus tool of all time. Sorry if you didn’t get what you wanted out of the update. I would have like custom luts and focus mapping, but I’m thrilled with the updates we did get.

hello. I love your content. You are good at describing complex things in a way so that everyone can understand. I may need your help with one minor things regarding this update. I have the new firmware on my Sony A7s3 and have some issues with Auto focus with Face and Eye detection when set for Human subject. The issue is this: focus works fine when my head is horizontal but if I stay with my head upside down the camera fails to focus on my eyes. This did not happen with previous firmware version (2.10 I know not quite previous but that was last before updating to 2.15 and 3.0. Please let me know if you experience this kind of issue also. Maybe somehow is a problem. Happens with both lenses that I have GM2 24-70 & GM2 16-35mm. Kind regards and thank you so much in advance.

I myself haven’t experienced any problems with AF after the update, but I’ve heard that other people are having issues.. don’t think there is any solution to the problem, I think we just have to wait for a new firmware update that fixes the minor bugs people are experiencing..

This update changes native ISO settings when using PRORES RAW / Ninja V. It goes from 640/12800 to 80/1600. 😢 Even comparing a camera with older firmware, having the updated Sony A7s3 firmware 3.0 ISO80 was still brighter than older camera with older firmware at ISO640. Something is not right with this update. 🤔 Again this only effects external recorders such as Atomos Ninja V/V+, Ultra etc.
