The official video for this was shot in the Mojave desert outside of Barstow, California. They were releasing it on their 2016 Christmas album, so they were all dressed in warm winter coats, even though they were filming it in August and the temperature was around 98° fahrenheit, so they were all miserably hot. Kirstie had injured her foot or ankle and was unable to walk with them; it was as much as she could do to stand in one spot while the men walked up behind her. And they were off-road and afraid that they wouldn't be able to find their way out in the dark, but they really wanted the video to include Mitch's hat obscuring the setting sun. So they needed to do it as quickly as possible and then leave immediately, which is exactly what they did, and they were VERY relieved to be putting it behind them. And yes, they did manage to make it out before full darkness fell, just barely.

I know it's Scott. He does record the bass line in the studio. I was saying it's not true that it's Avi or Matt on the recording it's Scott. Scott and Matt also beatbox in the mash up of Butter and Dynamite as well as A Little Space. Avi, Matt, and Scott can all beatbox as well.

Hey there, patreon may be free to watch, but you can't comment, after seeing the Daft Punk, I wanted to clear some things for you before it comes out. I'm sure others will hit on this, but anyway. They had lost their recording contract because of the company was bought out, and the new company didn't think accepella was worth doing (they did come back a few years later and re-signed them. Anyway, being broke and just getting started, they spent their last $400, and made a deal with a brand-new post/editing company, (The company would do this one free, and PTX would use them exclusively for so long, and would list them as the Post company as as much as possible) then they went to Avi and Kevin's apartment, each one went in a closet by themselves, and recorded their vocals, then they hung blackout curtains in either the kitchen or a bedroom I've heard both from reliable sources, and recorded the visuals, and then did post on Avi's iPad, which is what they recorded everything on. Put it on YT and won a Grammy. There is some debate over exactly what it cost, and where it happened, etc... I may not be right on everything, so if you hear something better go with it, this is just what I"ve heard, as I said reliable sources, people that were either there, or personally know the members.

This video of Hallelujah is my favorite cover done by PTX so far. I love it when it’s the first PTX video a reactor has seen, because when Mitch starts singing, you get to see the reactor’s jaw land on the floor from being Mitch Slapped. I’m sure it’s the same reaction I had the first time I watched. Not to mention the incredible location. There are certain videos where Kevin sings some backup but mostly does the beatboxing. I found one of the videos where he played the cello. FYI, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, once he played the cello, the other he played the saxophone. And BTW, he sings beautifully, as do all of them.

There are two Live versions of this on their channel. An old one with Avi, and one with Matt. In the Avi one, you can see that Avi is doing the bum-bum-bum bassline just before the second verse, but then it gets seamlessly handed off to Scott when Avi takes the vocal lead. I assume that the same is true in this studio version. However, some people believe that it's actually Avi multitracked in verse 2.

Great reaction. It was filmed in the Mojave desert. It was for the Christmas album so they had to dress warm but it was apparently boiling hot so they were suffering for their art! When Avi (and now Matt) sing a solo, Scott takes over the bass line. Mitch does sound like an alien angel. I heard them sing this live in May when they came to the UK and they sounded exactly the same. This is the best ever cover of Hallelujah in my opinion hence over 700 million views!

I believe that the almost-echo you're hearing from Mitch is caused by the acoustics in the recording studio. On an official video like this they lip-synch to the studio recording. It's easy to miss, because their lip-synching is so good - the way they do it is very smart. When they're shooting the video they actually sing the song, even though the audio isn't being recorded. This ensures that they're all in time with each other and that all their movements are genuine.

Pentatonix got started on The SingOff, a competition for a capella groups, and for a while they stuck strictly to the a capella "rules". They wanted to be able to reproduce their arrangements in live performances. Then they started using instruments on some songs on their Christmas albums, while still keeping most of their other songs a capella. In recent years, particularly on their original songs, they've worked with current pop producers, engineers and sound editors, occasionally using instruments and synths, though a lot of synth-like sounds on their recordings are actually voices that have been altered / edited. Basically, they and their producers know the sound they want and do what it takes to achieve it. But they are still able to perform most of their songs live, with a pared-back arrangement and sometimes a pre-recorded percussion track.

They wore winter clothing because this was released on one of their Christmas albums, and I've heard it was really hot. Plus the film crew arrived late so they were there most of the day. yeh... all that drumming was done by Kevin, the beatboxer, Scott got his verse right at the beginning. I think Kevin really deserves more accolades than he gets, because he is the foundation of the song and responsible for keeping everyone on the same beat. He is the "fullness" of the music part. You can't build a sturdy structure unless you have a good foundation and frame. Scott does cover the Bass notes when Avi is taking lead. They are truly remarkable. This is THE best cover of this song I've ever heard. Thanks for your reaction and ENJOY !
