Hi guys! In this vid I tell you all my stats :) I was fortunate to be accepted at Boston University, UNC, Northeastern, and other schools with these stats.

Hi, I'm Tomi, I'm from Nigeria and I'm in my junior year. So far, I've been doing well but I worry about my freshman and sophomore year because I was new to lots of things and our school forced us to do calculus in our sophomore year and it kind of pulled my scores down. We have nothing like AP classes so there's nothing I can do to make up for it :( I'm trying really hard in my junior year to make up for it and I think I'm doing really good but I'm still worried about what classes universities look at the most... For a while I wanted to go to the UK but recently I've been told that the US is best for me. I'm looking at Boston and I really like it and I'll probably write SAT in my junior and senior year:) thanks for the advice and sorry this is quite long

I wonder if you superscored your sats. If you took the best score from reading/writing which was your second time and combine it with your best score from math in your first sat, your total would be 1590 instead of 1580. Who knows if those extra 10 points would have gotten you into an ivey. Either way, don't worry about it, UMD is a fine school and I'm sure you'll do fine. Congrats

Why would you retake a 1540? I mean I got a 1450 and retook and got a 1570 so I can't really say anything but I'd def be satisfied with a 1540

What do you recommend for international students that want to get into US universities? I’m actually American but half of my life I’ve spent it in other countries so it’s pretty hard for me to know how my process is. Btw you’re so smart and I love that fact that you care for such important subjects such as gender equality. Good luck on college!

Hi! Are you enrolled in an American high school? If so, then your process will be the same as mine (you'll take the SAT or ACT, get teacher recommendations, fill out the Common Application or Coalition application). But if you're not in a US school then you may have to go through the international route. Fortunately, many good US colleges care about diversity for international students! In your application, emphasize what is unique about you. Living in other countries sounds like a really cool thing, and you must have a lot to say about that. So incorporate that into your essays. I admit it probably is a lot harder to get in as an international student, but as long as you present yourself well and have good grades, you will be set. Good luck!!

Was your 4.6 when graduating? Or while applying? I currently have a 4.5 and 1470. I want to get into UNC

LAGHacks the 4.6 was my gpa at the time of applying, which was early action (October). I think your stats are very good! If you can, try to bring up your sat by talking it again, but in all honesty it is a very good score. And remember extracurriculars matter a lot too! And UNC has short answer questions that they use to see if you’re a good match, so work on those essays once they’re available. Good luck!

There were others but these were the ones I listed first and the ones I prioritized! You definitely don’t need many ECs, it’s quality not quantity :)

I studied by buying the official SAT prep book from CollegeBoard, which has practice tests for ALL the subjects. I recommend this book only if you're doing multiple subject tests--otherwise you're just wasting money. Other than that, I did not do any special preparation. I was already taking the AP classes in those subjects so I felt prepared. I spent maybe maximum 6 hours total studying lol

There are thousands of people with the same or similar stats it comes down to the essays, supplements, extra curricular, and for those who did it, their interview. It also helps to go to summer programs in their schools between their Junior and senior year of high school.

you just have to google schools that do it. I just happened to find out about them randomly. And don't be afraid to ask/email the schools!

Cameron Cain Don’t be afraid to take the sat more than once! Superscore will help you. Try khan academy sat prep because it helped me a ton. Good luck!

Cameron Cain SAT scores and grades aren’t anything. In fact, a lot of colleges look at leadership, passion and Extracurriculars more than anything. If your sat wasn’t great, everything else will make up for it :)

Is 1 year of extracurriculars good enough to get into a good college? For example freshman year I didn't really have strong extracurriculars and I'm a sophomore and still dont have strong extracurriculars but in junior year I'm planning to volunteer in my local library and participate in a community service as well as volunteer at a religious spot I attend. Do you think it's good enough to get into a good college?

vikraant cheema That’s a good question! It’s not always about the length of time: your dedication will show through even if you only do it for one or two years. For instance, I only started my Girl Up club as a junior. Getting involved in junior year is not too late. Just be sure to participate often. And if you can, go for a leadership role. As long as you care enough about this activity, it should be fine. Good luck!

vikraant cheema Make sure you are doing Extracurriculars based on your interests and passions. If you are doing Extracurriculars just so colleges can see it, they will notice and it won’t look good. For example, if you are interested in business, join business clubs, find internships for business, and things like that

With these stats why did you only apply to schools like UNC, BU, and Northeastern (especially since they also give very little financial aid)? Like what stood out with those colleges, b/c your grades and EC's were definitely good enough for something like Stanford which is great for bio

Asians are oppressed in the college admission system. Any guide on how to get into an Ivy you’d check most if not all the boxes (good SAT, AP amount and scores, GPA (unless ur cumulative weighted was bad, you didn’t mention it)) The only reason excuse the college system could make was STEM is competitive AF and ur ECs didn’t really match your major except a few

For those who feel insecure about your scores and grades, colleges do look at that but please remember they also consider your essay, your extra curriculares and community service work matters a lot more. in your essay express yourself, write about something you are truly passionate about. don’t just try to show off, be yourself show your personality and you will charm them. You should also focus on being a well rounded student. don’t just focus on certain things just to impress them, show that you are a good candidate for their community by showing your skills and volunteer work.
