Josh did the right thing of leaving that horrible stepfather and his mother behind! Honestly shame on his mother for not supporting Josh at all! 🤦🏻‍♀️😑. Josh deserved better and he found himself a good life after leaving his mom and stepfather for good! 👍🏻

Josh did the right thing. His family was toxic. His step dad had no right to that money for his kid. He was responsible for that as a father. Glad his friend's family treated him like one of their own and supported him. He got to know what true family is all about.

For the Entitled Step-leech, it's easier to steal someone else's future than save for his son's education (notice that he didn't say a freaking word about doing anything for his daughter?) For the Enabling Birth Giver, it was easier to sacrifice her son's future than protect him because not agreeing would mean admitting she married a piece of filth who was only interested in the money that his father had set up for his son's education. I'm willing to bet that those who made the comment "sometimes sacrifices are necessary for family harmony" believe that as long as they aren't expected to do the sacrificing

Stepdad was so out of line and Op's Mom knew her late husband put money into a college fund so Op can make all his dreams come true. If stepbrother want to go to college he needs to apply for a student loan or work his tail off to get a scholarship seeing that his own Father didn't set up a college fund for his son after he was born. Stepdad is a deadbeat dad who thinks people should pay for his sons needs so he don't have to.

I had a friend whose whole family was lifted up. The eldest child had a part-time job and so did the other children who were old enough to work. Between them and their parents, they sent the eldest child to college and graduated.Then it was the next child's turn as EVERYONE who could work, did so, the eldest also contributing to the cost. This went on until the last child was educated. This is how families need to think about operating. Had the parents thought about that instead of trying to split up the inherited money, the outcome would have been different.

Josh’s mother cared more about holding onto her husband than standing up for her son. Shameless. The stepfather is a bum with no integrity. How could he try to bully another man’s child to give up their legacy to support his son? If he’s that strapped for cash, take on more hours, get another job, have his son get a part time job, apply for financial aid, apply for scholarships and grants, let his wife get a job, apply for a loan. Anything but try to guilt trip a child into giving up the one thing his father left him. Disgusting behavior!!!

What the hell was Josh's mom and stepdad talking about with fairness just his dad left that money for him so why should he have to shave it with his step sibling that doesn't make sense I can understand if the stepfather was the one to set up that college fun but that wasn't the case Josh's dad did that so Josh has no reason to shave it with his step dad's kid and these people kept talking about fairness was it fair when they gave Josh the ultimatum of either give us your money or you're no longer part of the family but I think the worst part about this is that Josh's mother actually went along with her husband's BS she never wants try to stand up for Josh her own son

These parents don’t care about fair they want what’s easy! The stepfather did not prepare for his children’s future. So why is this failure a something Josh has to fix? The stepfather has an ex-wife the children’s mother to help fix this short sightedness, not Josh! This why you shouldn’t share too much information about money. People have funny ideas about other people’s money especially family. It is not the successful persons responsibility to fund all the dreams and projects of their family.

Neither of those step siblings were related to Josh. His mother was wrong not to support the son. The money was his inheritance from his dad. Stepdad and stepsiblings are not part of the inheritance. And why didn't this stepfather save any money for his own kids? Josh had a good friend to trust. Thought the stepdad was like a politician, spending other peoples money as if his own.

If the stepfather, and siblings and his own mother had included him into their family and loved him and treated Josh like a true family member, and if the stepfather had asked nicely and only suggested for Josh to help out instead of demanding it things may have ended different. But that was not what happened. Josh is a good person and if they had treated him better I have a feeling Josh would have helped the other young man with his college fund-out of love. - Peter age 74

OP's step father had years to make plans to provide for his children. He did not and at no time gave reasons, let alone valid reasons (medical bills, etc). I think it is very likely that he planned to raid OP's funds for some time. By not protecting those funds and OP's resources, the mother betrayed both OP and her late husband. She is the main villain in this story. It is also nice to see a piece that has been well edited and not generated by AI.

The only answer I would have for step-dad....you did not want fairness because Sam had a father growing up so there was NEVER fairness to begin with.....you wanted me to fund YOUR child because YOU were incapable of doing it. Lack of financial planning on the stepfather's part does not constitute an emergency on Josh's part. I think the stepfather is lazy and, rather than save for his own kids' futures, he was relying on Josh to fall into his guilt trip trap and give up his inheritance. Glad it didn't work!

If Mark wanted to have money for the education for his son he should take money away when his son was born that is what resposible parents do. The mom and stepdad were totally unfair. Admittedly though I don't know much about college funds except that they are usually set up by the beneficiary's parents and the funds are in trust till the child turns 18. One question I have to ask does the stepfather not work, He's asking his stepson for his college inheritance so he can spend it on his own children, That doesn't make any. Sense And my mom is just standing by his side doing nothing, If he doesn't have the means to support his own children.That's his probhe's a father too , and yet he does this to his own stepson, Clearly that man does not understand the value of family.

Josh stepped should be ashamed to want the money from Josh’s dad (another man) to support his daughter. Something about that does not feel right. Josh was respecting his dad’s wish , not sure that the dad would want him to give it away to another mans’s child. I’m not saying that he should not help his step sister, but not with the inheritance. Besides, his stepdad sound more like he was demanding it and his daughter was entitled to it. He actually had the nerve to bring up fairness. His mom was absolutely of no support. It seems like she is intimidated by her husband .

I'm torn on this one. On one side, I agree that the money was supposed to be his. On the other hand, it's also true that it doesn't sound fair to his step siblings. They did say money was tight. They likely couldn't afford much. Unlike some other stories I heard, OP was made aware of his inheritance. In other stories, the money was taken against the kid's will. In others, the money was spent without the child being made aware that the funds existed. I agree that the stepfather was being an a__hole for threatening to kick him out. But I can't help but to think that OP was a little selfish in this case.
@Letha-AnnCooper
@Letha-AnnCooper 3 ай бұрын
The step siblings had their own parents. OP’s dad had to die for him to get this money. If the step siblings parents didn’t save for them or didn’t die and give them their inheritance. What’s fair about taking OP’s inheritance?
@francoisseguin772
@francoisseguin772 3 ай бұрын
It sounds as if OP didn't remember his father. It's likely he's been living under his step father's roof for a while and the step father gave him shelter, clothes and food, as a good stepfather should. How is it fair to his step siblings that OP is given a free pass for his education and they don't? Not like they wanted to give All of it to the step siblings. The point of this whole thing is that it's unfair either way.

His mother was responsible for his basic needs and the stepfather took that responsibility as well when he married his wife. That does not mean he is entitled to everything OPs dad gave him. That was separate and above. Don’t marry people with kids if you can’t accept that
