My Stihl 194t SQUEALS Like a PIG!! Clutch Problems

My old 193T did that squealing thing when you cold started it. But I took the clutch apart, and the bearing wasn’t burnt up. I ripped the entire saw apart short of taking the cylinder and crank case apart.

@courtneykensington8190 I think you're right about the bearing. This saw has about an hour on it. So it came from the factory a little dry. Think i'm gonna bring it back to Stihl and see if they will swap the bearing out under warranty. Thanks for watching

@ if you get an Oregon push and lube, You can put grease on the bearing through a hole in the middle of the crankshaft. That’s what I did to fix mine.

I know your exact problem. It’s your clutch bearing. It’s burnt out and no big deal. All you need to do is remove the clutch to get to the bearing and replace it. Make sure to use white lithium grease on the new bearing to prevent burning it out again. I just had the same thing happen to my ms192tc. Hope this helps.

@silvercollector819 i'm pretty sure you're right. Thank you! I've only run it about ten minutes since it had a new clutch drum and bearing. I think I'll drop it off with Stihl because it's still under warranty. I don't mind working on my own saws but I think I will let them deal with this one 🙂

ya i just bought the 194 t to port and on the first saw and first start up mine did the same thing so i returned it got another one and that one does the same thing so now i have to call the stihl rep and see what i can do

@GabrielMuehlfelt Thanks for sharing. I thought there would be others with the same problem. Hopefully Stihl will work with you. It's like the factory is putting clutch drum bearing together with no or not enough grease. I'm gonna take mine back again, and if they don't replace the bearing, I'll just end up doing it myself

got new ms194t and it sqeals too.. trying to figure it out myself.. i worked a couple drops of oil at clutch bearing and still squeals.. wonder if drum is rubbing brake band ?? it seems to squeal bad at start up.... will apply grease to bearing as others stated.......

@@jbwood6116 No, it's still with the break assembly and cover removed. I just figured out what it is. It's the back of the clutch hitting the drum in the center. I'll post. A video about it

@@jbwood6116 seems to have nothing to do with the bearing and only to do with the drum rubbing the clutch in the center

thanks for suggestions .. i took the clutch off and looked at drum and did not see any signs of metal getting gouged .. looked at the bore at bushing with magnifying glass and no rubbing there .. drum had little lip there.... my bearing did not have a lick of grease so i greased bushing and bearing .. put back all together with bar / chain fired it up and NO squealing .. shut down restarted 3-4 times no squeal ... i did notice the drum had a little side play so that told me it had a little clearance between drum and centrifugal weight " package "....... we are currently cutting limbs out of big pine tree and of course we are between two carports .. we will be using the saw and i will give progress report ...... thanks.......

Had same issue... Spay some WD 40 back there and problem solved.

My stihl ms 180 squeals too. I think that it is problem with weak clutch springs

@dragoslavpetrovic3616 yeah , it seems like it's a common problem. Supposedly they replace the clutch and drum already. I'm going to drop it off with Stihl again because it's still under warranty

I told you I have an 020t I'll port for ya new oem cylinder and piston and crank but it will be missin some stuff for you to source.won't charge a bunch either you helped my channel alot

Mine does same thing . Just spray it out with starting fluid and the noise goes away .

@KristopherMarie yeah I think you're right. I just got it back and they put a new clutch and bearing on there and still the same noise. Hopefully it just needs a little grease

@@KristopherMarie it's a dry clutch . No grease needed . If tou grease it it will slip and burn up .
