My parents bought an ivory white 68 Firebird 400 with a black vinyl top in 1969. Then watching shows like The Rockford Files, Smokey and the Bandit and Knight Rider really got me loyal. We had that 68 until 1999 and my Dad replaced it with a black WS6. He's older now and the car has been passed on to me. For me it checks all the boxes. It sounds good, looks good, feels good. I'm constantly getting thumbs up in traffic and short stories from other driver's at stop lights. It's a ride that just connects.

I love your story. I am your age, and I've owned fourth gen Firebirds for 24 years. I currently have 3 and absolutely love them. The door panels crack because there are too many staples and the panel can't flex when the window is completely down. I just subscribed, so I expect to see more TA videos.

When replacing factory window motors it's a great time to tackle that project. Hell replace the factory speakers during that time too. Rivet gun and appropriate rivets a must when doing the motors. Stock units are unreliable just like all GM window motors of that era. Also (I cannot stress this enough) if the fbody interior is leather, leather cleaner and conditioner. My seats have 150k on them. They look like they have 30k. Also use uv protectant cleaner for dash and interior plastics. Use a sun shade when outside especially with T tops. That will preserve cheaper interior plastics. I love these cars. Obviously like any car they have their faults but those can be minimized or fixed.

Nice car. I have a 99 red WS6. I bought it in 2000 and it still runs like if it was new! I change my exhaust to a borla cat back. Other than that my car is all stock. My 10 year old boy already claimed it. 🤣🤣👍🥃

Hey flushing Michigan is right up the road from me. I LOVE these ws6’s. 12 year old me was infatuated with these when they came out. I always loved the 67 and up firebirds, and the 70’s trans am’s. My favorite was probably the 77 & 78. I loved that they weren’t hatchbacks. I always wanted an all black 77 or 78 trans am with none of that gold trim/gold chicken and instead of honeycomb wheels do some cragar SS or mag wheels. Enjoy this beautiful car!

Start saving for transmission upgrades!!!! The oil pump in my 01 SS went out at around 92K and rather than just fix the oil pump I went ahead and put almost every upgrade from Sonnax in it while it was out and went with a circle D flexplate, my stock flexplate was cracked as well. I put kooks longtube headers and speed engineering exhaust and bmr K-member.

When you upgrade to leds make sure to get both led compatible turn signal flasher and hazard flasher. I've been running leds in entire interior and exterior for about 7 years now after upgrading both flashers. Zero issues. Running LMC truck housings for headlights and HID kit. Cut off is crisp. Will upgrade to full custom projectors with backing plates once I get around to the project but it's my fair weather car and has extended use antique plates so just a work in progress for past 8 years as I've done incremental upgrades. Long term project. Doesn't need repairs I just bought a blank canvas and I make performance, handling, and braking upgrades when I get time. Any wear items get improved aftermarket parts. Subframe connectors really helped with handling upgrades and rear end needs girdle which I installed. Stock 10 bolt is junk. But life can be extended. Once mine goes? Ford 8.8 out of a Mustang from 99-04 specifically with obvious brake backing plates, etc. I got rid of my 01 GT to buy my 98 Trans Am because it was my dream car since I was 17 when the 98 came out.

@@firefalken97real I currently have their axle dumps with x pipe they came on my car it sounds really good but a little annoying on the highway due to being dumps. I plan on eventually going to their true dual setup. It runs out the back to some really nice tips and has an x pipe. If you go with that you will need the pan hard relocation kit which you can select when buying the exhaust it’s like 100 extra dollars.

The single-outlet exhaust wasn't an "option;" it was the _only_ configuration V8 F-bodies came in for '98. GM did that to pass emissions by restricting the output. Later models had more restrictive headers to achieve similar results. '98s also came with higher flowing fuel injectors, and the early ones had the Corvette's forged camshaft.

go with Borla. I found a mint 2002 WS6 back in 2016 with low miles and we did long tube headers into Borla and it's the most beautiful sound in the entire universe. maybe I'll take a video someday but I've heard it running alongside Loudmouths and there's no comparison. SLP gets a little raspy. Borla stays choppy. it's king

Nice car. I just got mine 2 weeks ago. 87k miles. I just installed steel plate brackets under my seats to make them go back more. Huge difference for taller people. Im gonna take my visors out because they wont get used and i always wear shades as well. Did you paint the lettering on doors or is that overlays on them. I like that better because it stands out instead of blending in. Anyway nice ride and enjoy that t/a.

Good F-ing luck finding a replacement passenger side tail light & that black center piece that has the key hole in it to manually open the rear hatch!!!! That's not to mention if & I SAY IF you do find that passenger tail light somewhere get ready to drop upwards of a grand (a thousand buck's on that thing because those honeycomb taillights are almost IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN PRISTINE CONDITION!! I know because I have a Victory Red 2001 Pontiac WS6 Trans Am 6 Speed & I had the same issue with my driver's side taillight except the crack was way way more pronounced than your's is!!!! It took me almost a year to find one in excellent shape & then I had to pay the guy $1,600 F-ing buck's to get it from him!!!! My advice brother is to just leave it alone because that scratch/tiny little Crack ain't even worth the time or the hassle buddy, but that's totally up/on you my man!!!! Either way, good luck from another WS6 lover/nut😂!!!!

I found a tinted used one for driver side 4 years ago for about $120 bucks. Used paint thinner to remove spray tint. Tail lights are expensive for these cars and there's no such thing as aftermarket. But you can buy a set of NOS (new old stock) tail lights for probably 600 to 800$. So 1600 for a tail light for these cars is insane. Hopefully year one will start making quality repros at some point once these become even more collectible. They already bottomed out when I bought mine 8 years ago and my cars worth mote than I bought it for plus I put over 50k on it but replaced old parts with better aftermarket parts, etc.

I got a 98 trans am back in 2013 for 5000 cash it was red as well it didn’t have the ram air hood on a rainy Friday night I was on the way to see my gf and a car pulled out in front of me I lost control woke up in a ditch surrounded by ambulances and several people I only had liability total loss !!!!! I’ve definitely learned from it till this day I’m sick the 3rd was exactly 11 years but it would fly lol I was scared of it because I came from a 2000 mustang gt and it’s no comparison and at that time it was a lot of 2 valves riding around they seen me and didn’t try it lol they knew better well actually one guy tried it and got slapped hard it was a easy walk we pull over he said man what the hell do you got under there I said a ls1 he said are you modded I said nope the look on his face 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 fun fact the fbodies was right there with the c5 they underrated the numbers so the vette wouldn’t get outsold they are out there but they ain’t cheap I’ve seen some for 25k

one tailpipe in the rear outlet is completely whack. there's no amount of implied value in leaving this thing bone stock that wouldn't actually be improved by at least getting a relatively 'factory' feeling SLP catback with dual tips.
