Hey guys! I've suffered from herniated disc as well. Lower lumbar spine. It eventually graduated to Sciatica. Nerve pinched on left leg. Endured pain for 6 months. Doctor only option was surgery. I was flat broke and no insurance. Put off MRI for awhile (it's the most important thing you MUST do FIRST). It was expensive but eventually got it. Confirmed the bulge. Cause was a deterioration on S1 probably from an accident I had 10 yrs ago.. I researched on hydrotherapy. Swimming with a series of movement. Gravity is our worse enemy. After just a couple of times, the pain was gone. Got full function of my left leg again. It worked for me. Don't lose hope. I was in a desperate situation. I thought my life ended. It's been 3 years now and I haven't felt pain again. I hope you all get better. I am not a doctor. We all have different cases. This just worked for me.

I have a 1cm broad based right side bulge. The hell I have been in for 6 months is insane. I have done everything, meds, physio, ice, heat, chiropractor, massage, dry needling, cupping I even bought an inversion table. When it was at its worst I couldn’t sit for even 5 seconds I would sleep on my floor for 2 hours a night. All I could do way lay on the floor all day. I got extremely depressed and almost got hooked on OxyContin because of the pain. All I had to look forward to was my next pill. I couldn’t go out be with my wife or play with my daughter, I had no life. I’m probably %80 better now i take 6km walks everyday now. I still can’t sit sit pain free and have to use a roll I’m my car or it’s torture. Unfortunately I’m a field tech and I drive 80,000km per year. I go back to work in 3 weeks I have no choice I’m out of money. I feel like I’ll never get that last 20% back I want to get back to my active life again lifting weights and running. I’m so scared I’ll blow it out again. The pain was so bad the first 4 weeks I really thought about ending my life. The extreme pain I was in day in and day out and the 5 pills I was on really depressed me and screwed with my mind. I would just start to cry and ask way nobody could help me. The medical system was useless the only thing that helped was time. I hope I get the last 20 back I’m 44 and refuse to live like this the rest of my life.
@RemiSovran

- Kevin Glad to hear your feeling 80% better. That;s very encouraging to hear. As for that final 20%, you still have 3 weeks left and I'd recommend you do your best to take advantage of those 3 weeks. Maybe you won't get to 100%, but if you can get to 85% or 90%, then that would be huge and perhaps manageable for the future :)

I injured my back weight lifting in high school at age 16. Couldnt walk for 2 weeks. Been dealing with excruciating pain for years!!! I finally got artificial disc replacement 3 weeks ago and I'm doing fantastic!!!!! Oh yeah I'm 33 now!!!! So 17 years of pain!! But 17 years ago they didn't have this technology of artificial discs. I got the most cutting edge one too by asculap that barely came out in 2015. Specialized for the L5-S1 disc. So I did the right thing waiting. Because back when I first injured myself surgery was a last resort!!! Everyone advised against it. I'm glad they did. Back then back surgery was very risky. Today it's soooooo much better

This exact same situation happened to me--had an L5-S1 disc bulge, and was told I "did not qualify" for an MRI. Was told I just had chronic back pain that would stay with me for the rest of my life. I ended up leaving the country and getting an MRI elsewhere, cheap and quick. Healthcare is great, unless you're not given access to services.

+Remi Sovran Wow it really took you a while to figure out youre bulge problem, i also suffer from the same L5-S1, i fell playing basketball about 8 years ago and had minor disc bulge, time went by and i never got treated and about a month and half ago i woke up and i barley could move, i couldn't place my left leg forward, the bulge had grown so much it was pinching the nerve, but luckily i have a doctor that specialize in pain, he studied in Cuba and he uses this treatment called electromodular acupuncture and this medication called ozono which he injects right in the disc to separates the vertebrate from the disc so the swell goes down and he also uses laser technology to swell down the muscles, and in about 15 days i could walk normal again, i could bend over and do stuff that i normally do, im not at 100% yet i really need to learn stretching exercises to strength my back, but i am supper lucky to have a doctor that really knows what he is doing , best of luck.

Interesting to hear about that treatment you had and that it worked as well. Never heard about that treatment before but that really intrigues me and I'll have to look into that. And same as well, I'm not 100% either but I'm very close to it and I'm back to practically all activites after a long rehab process. Thanks for sharing that and best of luck as well to you :) - Remi

Thank you Sirsi! I don't know if the bulge necessarily went away completely. I think it's more so at the point we're it has shrunken enough that it doesn't irritate the nerve whatsoever. Note: You can still have a bulge and have no pain. And yes you're 100% right, a follow up MRI would be a good idea but I just haven't come around yet to booking an appointment. It would be really interesting to compare though now :)

Does your disc buldge got healed by now?
@gratuitousfootnote1183
@gratuitousfootnote1183 9 жыл бұрын
Great video, thanks for sharing your story. I have to say though - I was just like you. I "tweaked" my back doing dead lifts in 2009, eventually recovered. Then I ended up giving myself a disc bulge at L5-S1 from doing strenuous walking on a steep incline in 2012. The disc bulge eventually resolved itself. Fast forward to 2013, I lift and carry a heavy box of books and trigger an acute episode of lower back pain and sciatica. I get an MRI to discover that I now have degenerative disc disease. Because I kept engaging in activities that added to the wear and tear on my L5-S1, it eventually "sprung a leak." As I'm sure you know through your research, the discs don't have a great capacity to heal themselves since they lack blood flow. For that reason, all the strain and damage adds up and can result in herniation and/or DDD. So my advice to you is to stop doing stuff like dead lifts altogether. Appreciate that you have had a good recovery and avoid those exercises which put strain on your lumbar region. Trust me, you don't want DDD, it's ruined my sex life and my ability to do a lot of things. Just my personal experience, best of luck to you
@RemiSovran
@RemiSovran 9 жыл бұрын
Willhelm S Thanks man, I appreciate your comment! I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through all of that, especially since you experienced additional injuries such as degenerative disc disease. It's true that the discs really do have a limited healing capacity because of the lack of blood supply and this makes it such a "tough" injury to overcome. I know many people end up getting worse and eventually they will get surgery to repair the disc, which is never fun. However, if their were any positives that I could take away from my disc bulge injury is that I'm more educated than ever about my lower back and I understand what's going to cause pain or problems. Activities such as running, I haven't even performed in over 2 year because of the impact it places on your spine. Lastly, at the end of the day though, I think with any disc injury, it's all about being aware and making the changes to your lifestyle that are necessary. Thanks again for sharing that and hopefully things improve for you :)

- Bushra No problem Bushra and sorry to hear about that. That's a very tough situation, especially dealing with two protrusions at different levels and not being able to work. When it comes to the treatment, it's going to be different for everyone, and in your case, since you have two protrusions, it makes things a little more difficult. However, as long as you follow a proper rehab program (e.g., avoiding painful movements/activities, strengthening the core, following a healthy diet, etc.) you should get better over time. On the positive, congratulations on graduating from nursing school and hopefully you get back to your internship soon :)

You explained exactly how I feel and what I am having through for so long! I have bulging disk in my L4-L5 and L5-S1!! Worse!!! I've been going to doctors for over 5 months now after since they get my MRI results.. Did MRI, PT, medications, home exercises!! I did everything but it's not easy!! Did MRI for my neck also and I was diagnosed with Cervical Spondylisis which is connected to my spinal as well.. It's crazy!! I'm still trying my best and keep bugging my doctors to help me ease this pains all over my body..😭 Thanks for sharing this video.. I finally found someone who explained so much about this pain situation and I would definitely show this to my husband.. I sometimes feel that he doesn't believe when I am in so much pain every single day that's why I just cry quietly sometimes instead of complaining about my pain. It hurts physically and emotionally!! This sounds exactly what I am going through now. I have gone from my chiropractor, to the doctor, to the physical therapist, back to the chiropractor. I had the MRI and exactly what you had, an L5-S1 injury where the bulge was displacing the nerve bundle, which explained the horrific pain going down my leg, especially sitting. I can empathize with you because there is nothing more painful and that includes childbirth and appendicitis. I'm doing the MELT method, core exercises, stretches, etc., and I'm hoping to heal it myself because the doctors keep pushing me into surgery and I don't want to do that at all as that sets a person up for a whole lot more back problems. Thank you for sharing your story.

- Viewvalley Sorry to hear about all of that you have gone through Viewvalley. I know it can be a very tough process to go through, but if you can stick to avoiding the movements/activities that are painful and continue with core exercises/stretches, you will make a recovery a eventually. As for the doctors pushing for surgery, never really a thing you'd like to hear and I'd be very cautious with approaching surgery, since a disc bulge injury "can" be healed with proper conservative treatment. All the best moving forward and I hope you can make a full recovery soon :)

My story is incredibly similar. Young, tall, L5-S1 disc prolapse, and not diagnosed until I was in constant pain and couldn't walk. Did the same lying on my front all day, was on Naproxen (stronger than Ibuprofen) and Amitriptyline (as nerve pain relief). Took about the same time to get any sort of disc shrinkage, but unlike you, I ended up with permanent damage. Got permanent numbness in my left foot down the outside, and a permanent "pulled calf muscle" feeling. I'll keep an eye on the channel, try some of your core strength stuff, see if it helps.

Thanks for your time in putting this video together. My family doctor gave the option of pills or shots, of which I never took anything. After 6 months of pain I've decided to see a surgeon. Lots of people say "don't have back surgery" but when laying in bed is the only non painful days that's not acceptable in my 40's. Wish me luck 😎

Hey Remy, just want to say thank you for putting out valuable information. At the very least, your experiences can help people feel not alone in their fight, and it is absolutely a fight. I injured my back squatting 5 years ago. Lower left side totally gave out, felt like someone turned the light switch off between the connection of my upper torso to lower body. I had no force. I was able to get rid of that pain in my back over a course of 5-6 months. Changed my exercise routine from Olympic/powerlifting to more functional/postural movements. Got in the best shape of my life. Unfortunately life got in the way and my schedule changed and I got a away from what was working for me. I would throw my back out once or twice a year and I finally destroyed my lower back doing body Weight good mornings. Finally developed sciatica which was the worst pain of my life. Dealt with that brutal, life taking pain for 4-5 months. Decided to stop all bending during that time. Ate all natural diet. All anti inflammatory foods. Lots of turmeric. Lots of mixed veggie salads and beans. Eventually took care of the nerve pain. By the way, I never missed a day of work and my job requires me to stand all day. People saw me cry. I didn’t care. Eventually the nerve pain graduated to both leg. Like I said, no bending, but either way, I couldn’t bend. Felt like something was stuck. Felt like if I even attempted to bend, something would snap.so maybe 5-6 months go by, my biggest issue was I still can’t bend, horrible back pain still. Decided this wasn’t any way to live being immobile. Went through with surgery to mayb release that nerve. Did a micro discectomy on l5 s1. Your nerve is supposed to be white, mine was purple, that’s how compressed it was. Several weeks have gone by, and guess what? Back pain came back and can’t bend at all. I have not been the same person in 9 months. I feel like my life has been taken away from me. In my opinion, everyone is different. Listen to your own body. I am now attempting to fix this on my own. Step 1- bring down inflammation. Step2- increase mobility with simple yoga style exercises, but nothing that irritates it. I really don’t know what my back is telling me other than “I’m not allowing you to bend right now.” Imagine not being able to bend? It’s not living, especially if you consider yourself some type of athlete. And I was. Lost 20 pounds of muscle. Worked out everyday, and now I’m stuck in the bed with my Loved ones caring for me. Everyone going through their battle, keep faith. Don’t just get sucked in. Listen to people that actually have the experience like a Remy. Movement really is the remedy, but nothing to irritate it. Slowly test it but don’t force it. I never envisioned this battle was in store for me but I have the strength to figure it out. So do you, believe me.

Thank you very much for this video! I had an injury while squatting at the gym. Now I have a L5S1 herniated disc which is pinching my ciatic nerve root. I also have 2 other herniated discs above my L5 and other 2 bulging discs. I don't feel a lot of pain though. Sitting is very painful because of my left leg...and sometimes my back gets really stiff and hurts really bad. I am not taking any pain killers because I can handle the pain. PT has helped me very much. I am confident I will get better soon. Your video is the one of the best videos about lumbar herniated disc I've seen so far. Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope you get better and better every day.

Hi Aline, how are you doing now, have you fixed the problem? Can you please describe how if you can be bothered? I'm going through it now the 2nd time this year... Very very very depressing, I used to feel bulletproof before this 2020 came along and now with crazy politicians (Victoria, Australia) with draconian lockdown rules meant I couldn't go to the gym and live my active life anymore, so muscle atrophy is only way I can explain how I got here.

Hi All, This might help some of you. To help with sitting pain, try the what I call the Kawasaki position. Just look at someone's leg position riding a Japanese bike, perhaps in a Moto GP race and you will see it clearly. Calves outside the legs of the chair. Stretch feet back with balls of feet on the floor, almost up on toes. This helps me a great deal. This position would work on a school chair or kitchen chair, usually. Thank you Remi for this very much needed channel. I'll be posting more.

Hi Remi! I was recently diagnosed with disc bulge. Since I am a student living alone and away from home, it's been a hard time for me. Even putting on socks and trousers is a big struggle. Thank you so much for making this video:) I am gonna stay away from painkillers and deal with the pain like a warrior haha. Could you please give me some suggestions on when to start exercising? Can I start with walking for a short distance? Currently I have to lie in bed all day because even standing is difficult for me.
@RemiSovran
@RemiSovran 8 жыл бұрын
- Lily Sorry to hear about that, I can only imagine how hard it may be to be living away from and now suffering such a serious injury. Staying away from painkillers is a good thing and hopefully you can continue to manage without them. In terms of starting exercise, it really depends were your at and how you can function currently with your disc bulge. If you can, I'd suggest, maybe starting with these following exercises and seeing were your at: Clams: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3eTXqFuediYiac Side lying Hip Abduction: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6HdaaNnq5uYbMk Mini-Band Side Steps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaOZlIWPitWnfsk Tall Mini-Band Side Steps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ-8loNurtKVba8 Side Plank Regression: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2TaeIusqNV4asU McGill Crunch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3allHmvabeEobs Bird-Dog: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIbXXqaGjL-qbtU I'd give these exercise a try right now. If any of them cause you pain, then discontinue them as this would be indication your not ready for the progression yet. As far as walking goes, as along as it doesn't cause you pain, then I'd suggest engaging in walking for various 20 minute intervals if possible :) Hopefully this helps :) - Remi

It would be interesting to see how this young gentleman is doing now in the year 2022. I had a bulging disc about 5 years ago and for two years I couldn't even walk I couldn't even stand it was so painful. My doctor recommended having a operation on my back and I knew that I didn't want to go under that treatment because once you get into the spine a doctor could slip his knife accidentally and sever a nerve and you end up being in a wheelchair the rest of your life so like this young man I go online and do a lot of research I couldn't even sit down on the toilet without it hurting me. I would stand for about 5 minutes 10 top pushing myself just to do my dishes and then going laying on my bed the chiropractor didn't help me in fact he got mad at me because he said I should have been better by now because he figured I wasn't cooperating and it wasn't that I wasn't cooperating it's just that his message did not work. I had a handicap sticker on my rear view mirror and I thought I should ask all these people that pull in the handicap lot next to me what happened to them and everybody gave me their story and I figure out a 20 interviews it will give me something to go on. Every one of those 20 people had a back operation for herniated disc not only did it make it worse but one guy he had seven back operations and still was not improved and that was scary. I remember after the second year not knowing what to do just in so much pain almost ready to give up I came across decompression I was ready to just say the heck with it. I was in the grocery store just trying to make it to the till with 4 L of milk just to get out of there as soon as I could cuz I was so much in pain and it happened that my friend was in front of me and he made the mistake of asking me how I was doing and of course I just broke down in tears and he says well pay for your milk and I want to talk to you that might be interesting. He said that a bus driver he knew had treat herniated disc and he was in so much pain but then what he did if he found out that in the u.s. in Vegas there was some doctor who performed ozone treatments after having this done he came back to Canada within a matter of four days he was back to work apparently this ozone treatment for herniated disc has been done in Europe for the last 25-30 years? Don't quote me on this and it has also been done in the states for some time and recently here up in Canada and having success stories. I wouldn't recommend it if you feel uncomfortable or if you feel there's any dangers involved I don't like to recommend anybody anything that I haven't experienced myself but apparently this guy was back to work so I contacted him I got his email and he said he was back to work and it wasn't a hundred percent pain-free but he was convinced that's what happened to help him. This is a different story than myself. Because I was so fearful whether it would work for me or not I thought I'd just keep on doing research and I was looking at all the different operation said you can have to fix your back to remove the disc to replace it with another disc etc etc etc it just still didn't sit right with me especially after hearing about other people who've went under the knife and it would be temporarily good but it would come back that's what happened to a friend she had herniated disc and she went under the knife and it came back after you two years. What help me and save me from having a backup eration was decompression. Now I don't know if it will help if you've been under the knife and if you've already had a back operation as I understand it might not work, but I can't attest to that all I know is what really helped me. And after my doctor died I got a different doctor she told me that it was good I didn't have the operation because it can come back in 2 to 4 years. After 22 decompression treatments at $100 a treatment my pain went away the disc slip back into place. This isn't just some story this is my own personal experience and like I say I'm not saying it's going to work for you. I'm just saying everybody's different however I read on the internet about this procedure and I said well if it's going to cost me $2,200 and it's going to work I'm going for it after all what is money when it involves your health if you get the right treatment. Many people can and up almost poor and broke and in debt because they were sucked into bad treatment. I went from walking across the street very slowly barely making it to get my mail at my mailbox to walking 6 km. 3 years in the making the first two years not knowing what to do. Yes I remember one time I went to go to my mailbox and all of a sudden my leg disappeared under me I went down pretty hard on the sidewalk it was a total shock. Apparently what happened according to the doctor is the disc pinched a nerve that was sending messages to my brain to walk now I don't know anything about that but it certainly was true. I want everyone to know that I did go to the chiropractor for about eight months I went to physiotherapy for about the same length of time but this is what really helped so I hope this information has helped somebody to reconsider before they go under the knife don't give up because life is precious. I'm a senior and I thought just because I'm getting old doesn't mean that I should give up. Be very patient with yourself if you haven't herniated discs and by all means don't lift anything and I had to do that for two years I couldn't lift anything anyways it was so painful so may peace be with everyone that has read this and I wish the best for you all

Your story is so similar to my own! I live in Canada and it took 2 years of going through the medical process (specialists/physi/xrays,mri) before I finally went to a chiropractor even though all the doctors I had seen had told me there was no need to see one. After 3 weeks of adjustments my leg/back pain went to zero. After 5 weeks I was back to feeling like I had prior to that 2 year period. Don't be afraid to go see a chiro people! This is what they DO!!
@RemiSovran
@RemiSovran 8 жыл бұрын
+somadoll2012 Great to hear that chiro helped you out! I agree that people shouldn't be discouraged from seeing chiro or any type of alternative health care but the unfortunate thing is that a lot of people are, especially from general practiconer's. Not really sure why their is such a big discouragement but I think it has to do with money and the different methods being used. Personally, I think people should be encouraged too seek alternative help, especially if they haven't found anything that works for them. In my case, I did see a chriopractor but I didn't get much benefit from seeing one... even though he was the only who actually knew my injury without seeing the MRI. However, that's not too say that I don't recommend seeing one because everyone has a different experience with different sorts of treatment and it really comes down to the expertise of the individual.

I suspect that you may be acidic, which ties in with your arthritis. Acidic systems dry and weaken bony and connective tissue, making them vulnerable to injury and slow to heal. The calcium remains in a crystallized form in acidic environments, leading to bony protrusions and calcification of the joints (not to mention kidneys, heart valves, etc.). Throw some alkaline minerals in there like magnesium, and the calcium stones immediately dissolve into a water soluble form, enabling your body to excrete excess through the urine. Raw fruits/veggies and a water alkaline machine will change your life.

Wow I so want to read all these comments but after twenty it's just too much lol love to you all and hope you all heal I just wanted to mention that I'm seeing an osteopath and he's amazing... I went to physio and she was terrible, made me have so much more pain, didn't care - a good physio is important I agree, I got unlucky, but unfortunately there's only one in my town! I had back pain for 8 years, had MRI whilst living back in for two years England and they found NOTHING ha ha put me into physio classes that involved a lot of twisting that just made the pain worse and worse so I quit with our wonderful NHS. Saw a chiropractor (have to pay as it's not on the NHS, NHS is our health system in the UK) for six months, kinda took the edge of things but I feel he never healed the problem... Ever since then have had bouts of pain, when I try and live a normal life, recovery period, do nothing period, forget I have a weakness and damage again... Until finally in July 2015 I decided I was feeling recovered enough to start 'strengthening' my back so that I would never suffer back pain again ha ha ha 3 weeks later I was in more pain than I'd been in the whole 8 years! I'd totally messed things up. Suffered for 6 months, trying Thai massage (I live in Thailand) then this bad physio for four sessions, until finally in December 2015 found this osteopath. I was skeptical but what the hell, I had no more options left apart from buying a gun and shooting myself in the head lol my parents brought me up on osteopaths and homeopaths so why the hell not. After the first appointment I was pain free within 4 days! I was in SHOCK!!!! How on earth did he do this?! I had a few twinges here and there, a few twinges down my right leg, knee and ankle but all in all was feeling amazing, and was for the first time in 8 months able to clean my house a little and do my own clothes washing... I may've over done it a little... a few days later, still fine but achey, my dogs got into a fight, while trying to pull them off each other I picked one up and swung her up and over a fence into the neighbours garden, away from my other dog that was biting her... OOPS something slipped and went very wrong, I was suddenly bent over, the next few days it got worse until I was literally unable to stand up straight, bent over double all the time, literally looked like a walking ape, hands on the floor, hysterically funny if it wasn't so frustrating and worrying - desperately called my osteopath to see if he had a cancelation but no joy, had to wait three days. Went to see him, he says I have medial disc herniation... After one appointment, he also gave me a belt to wear, instructions to drink lots of water and a few days passed I can stand straight again. I'm going slowly, had another appointment with him 4 days ago, he's happy with my improvement. The next appointments in a week. He doesn't seem to be money grabbing like the physio who wanted to see me every two days and then was never there only her unqualified assistants messing around with my poor body. The only issue I have is I haven't had an MRI done, it costs about 500 US dollars here or more and I don't have that, so I'm hoping the osteopath will do the trick. At the moment I'm under STRICT instructions no exercise at all, but once I can start exercising to strengthen, I shall be consulting your videos, running them past him and see if they're ok for me to do. I agree with your first point you HAVE to know what is wrong, my osteopath is very experienced and has amazing hands but I do worry about not having an MRI to know exactly whats wrong, but hey ho, counting my lucky starts I have the osteopath and would reccomend a lot of your viewers and yourself to go see one too, they're quite amazing Dr's you know! Thanks for sharing your story, I look forward to doing these exercises with you as there's NO-ONE here I can trust apart from the Osteopath (I live in Thailand)

+Miriam Thawang Hi Miriam, thank you for sharing that story of yours. Firstly, sorry to hear that you had to go through all that trouble and pain. Never a fun a thing going through severe pain for roughly 8 years and not really know what's going on. Secondly, you raise a lot of important points and issues within the health care system today (e.g., Phsyiotherapist not attending to you, rather their unqualified assitants are. Having to pay for an MRI and not knowing exactly what your injury or issue is, etc.). All of these issues need to be changed and improved soon! Now, that's intersting that an osteopath has worked for you and I'm not suprised considering a lot of the manual work that they do. Glad to hear that your osteopath doctor has helped, you must have a really good one :). In my opinion, I think there are a lot of good health care professionals out there and everyone has a different experience with each. Some people get better with physio, some with osteo, some with chiropractic and so on. I think it really comes down to how well the health care provider is at their job (E.g., Are they continuously improving themselves, do they establish good relationship wih their clients, etc.). Therefore, it can be tough to find the right health provider but it's important to figure out as a client what is working for you and what isn't. Lastly, I just want to mention that you make a good point regarding the exercises. I know on this channel I recommend a lot of exercises and a lot of exercises that were specifically beneifical to my recovery. However, not all of these exercises will be helpful to everyone else and it must be really specific to the individual. For the most part I'm just advising people for now on what I think is best and what I found helpful based on my experience and education. Anyways, thank you for sharing your story and experience Miriam, much appreicated and hopefully you can make a fully recovery soon! All the best :)

+Remi Sovran you're very welcome, I think we should all share as all helps as everyone's situation is slightly different and support is important as constant pain can be incredibly depressing!! yup definitely agree different therapies work for different people, it goes back to your point also, the quality of the practitioner is essential, some people truly care and may even be said to have healing hands or at the very least a talent, while others go through the motions for the money, it's very hard for us patients/consumers I think especially to make decisions when you're in pain you need to give 'it' a good shot and then listen to your gut and body.... Fingers crossed this guy continues to help me, a lot lies with me drinking enough water too, hydration is super important, I also add a squeezed lime as most of us have too much acid in our body which doesn't help healing, another friend with disc/back issues swears you need to stay away from vine family ie tomatoes, aubergine etc xx
@RemiSovran
@RemiSovran 8 жыл бұрын
+Miriam Thawang Yes, I couldn't agree more. Support is one of the most 'important' things in any type of recovery like situation. For instance, if someone doesn't believe they can get better, then their probably not going to get better. However, if they have the support and encouragement from others, then their belief may just change if it hasn't already! Yes, that is very true! It is hard for the patient to make a decision when they are in pain and they are not exactly educated on the topic of their injury or their cirumsance, etc. Ultimately, this can pose a big challenge for any patient when getting treatment. Sometimes things may work out and others it may not. And yes, hydration is super important as well, as it's part of the healing process for the spinal discs. Also, you bring up some good nutritional points about the body being to acidic and etc. I agree with all of those points and the lime is a good idea. Furthermore, I've heard about staying away from nightshade vegebtales as well since they are somewhat inflammatory casuing. That's something you will really only hear from people who study naturopath/hollistic medicine or detailed nutrition :) Not something you will hear from your typical physiotherapist or general practitioner and it it's big part of the recovery process that often gets neglected by individual's :)
@miriam4kin
@miriam4kin 8 жыл бұрын
+Remi Sovran so so true, its all seen as alternative and holistic and hippy, even just telling someone to drink more water and they laugh at you, but it helps SO many things! So sad we live in a world where our regular practitioners don't also embrace these things and advise people as there is so much that can support the system in the healing process. I struggle with 'resting' once I start feeling better I want to 'get back to business' so I have to learn to keep up with the water, keep up with the rest, I haven't healed yet... but I'm hopeful, and look forward to finally getting the green light to start doing some kind of exercises. Hope all is still going well with your recovery, I would reccomend you seeing an osteopath as well, if you can find a reputable one in your area, they're fully registered and stuff, even if it's just for a 'tune up'. Wish I had a good physio to work with here, but just feeling blessed right now I found this osteopath and hoping vidoes like yours will enable me to regain strength and fully heal. xx
@RemiSovran
@RemiSovran 8 жыл бұрын
+Miriam Thawang Yup, it's pretty remarkable how simple things like 'drinking more water' get overlooked in today's society. And at the end of the day it really differentiates the best from the close-to best health care practitioners. Thanks for the kind words and glad this video was able to help you regain your strength! My recovery has gone very well and I've made a near-full recovery by doing a lot of self-rehab and learning about the spine on my own time. It's really fascinating learning about these sorts of injuries and now I'm just trying to help people prevent them :) And I'll definitely keep that in mind about the osteopath :)

I understand that pain all too well. I rolled a heavy patient over, and that’s when my symptoms started. The sciatica has affected my left leg, which was causing gait problems. The physical therapy made it worse. An X-ray showed that I had disc space narrowing from my L5-S1. My symptoms started in September 2021, and the nerve pain was getting worse. I didn’t get approved for an MRI until May 2022, however the MRI showed nothing. If I feel my lumbar area though, it feels like a bulging bone. Pain management gave me bilateral shots today in my piriformis muscle, but I wish I knew what the root cause was. The only thing that has helped me is exercising and stretching daily. When I actually stopped stretching my hamstrings, the symptoms subsided more. Something is causing this though, and I wish I knew. I’m sorry to hear you went through this. I know what that pain feels like and and people that aren’t experiencing the same don’t understand. I had one doctor tell me to get a cane. She wasn’t even interested in helping me. All we want is answers. Movement is important though. I’ve noticed if I don’t exercise daily, it gets worse again.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I was hit by a drunk driver in a head-on collision, which rendered me three herniated discs in my neck and my lower back and a shoulder bone spur. My life hasn't been the same every since. It's such a struggle doing the most basic things around the house. So much pain! I do planks, stretches, sphynx posture, etc.... I get very short periods of pain relief from those exercises. I'll keep trying. 😌 Anything to avoid taking pills. It's a struggle trying to leave bed in the morning. It's a struggle to undress myself before bathing. It's a struggle to clean myself. It's a struggle to put shoes on. I'm so upset about this whole thing! I will try swimming and hydromassage next. Hearing your story gave me lots of hope. Thank you so much! Be well.

I am 63 years old and a runner, at least up until the end of 2018 when I got my dose of lower back pain and piriformis nightmare. Never had back issues but I believe I brought it on by overdoing my workouts. Like you Remi, Had no ideas until I got my MRI. L4L5 bulging disc. I was and still am having lower back pins and needles, butt discomfort, cannot sit for long, abdominal pain on the right side off and on. I also have had groin and man unit pain and burning. Had no idea about that until I found out that it is all due to the nerve in the back affecting everything in the region. It has been 6 months and still no end in sight but I continue to stretch for back issues. I would not recommend pelvis stretches because I think it prolonged my pain. It helped the pelvis but not my back. My thoughts also are to not start doing anything like running when you feel better right away. I did that for a week and felt like I regressed in my progress. I hear it gets better over time but sure is a long road to recovery!

That's crazy my wife just had an MRI in an OPEN Mri she is claustrophobic took a week to get in. The imaging places are everywhere here I think there is about 20 of them in my city. I don't know I think I would rather just pay for my healthcare in the US. I have never had much problem getting insurance I'm 47 always had a job where they covered me. Even when I was in college I paid for my own insurance it was like $500 a month. Doctor just called with the results bulging disc tomorrow we get to find out what to do. She has been laid up for a month her pain was just like yours she would sit down and all of a sudden she would start crying the pain was so bad.

- blastman Ya, that's one of the benefits I see with your health care in the US. If you can afford it, then the results will come quick. I think everyone has their opinions, but I guess if I ever need medication, I don't have to pay for it, which saves a ton of money. There is pros and cons to both systems in my opinion. As for your wife, very sorry to hear about that though. It's very tough situation to be in, especially when you can barely sit without being in crazy agony and pain. I wish you and your wife all the best and hopefully you're wife can get some relief soon :)

normally people with back issues are difficult to listen to. tedious, confusing and unhelpful. this sets the bar: clear communication, great details, and helps us determine our type of injury, and the patience it will take to make ourselves whole again. or set expectations for self care and how to manage the medical industrial complex so we can actually heal.

Wonderful video, Remi. I am currently undergoing a herniated disc injury (I've had it for about 4 years now). Only started serious therapy 7 months ago. Love the content you put out. This video definitely gave me assurance that I can get better too. Been doing physio for about 6 months and also on an Ayurvedic medication plan. Exercises that I am doing (twice a day): bridges, cat-camel, cobra, standing stretches, knee-to-chest exercises for back and core strengthening, trunk rotation a.k.a supine knees side-to-side A big part of my injury was the mental frustration that came with it. I'm 25 and I've been playing soccer since I was 8 years old. Not being able to do that now is depressing. But I realized that talking to people who faced a similar injury helped deal with it better. Although I still have pain (not as much as I did 7 months ago), I feel a lot positive about recovery. Thank you so much for giving hope to everybody out there suffering from lower back pain. Please let me know in case you have any other tips for me to heal faster.

Thanks for telling us your story! Glad to know I am not alone with my L5S1 pain... would be interesting to know how you are coping with the pain these days? I have had this annular tear & disc protrusion pain for almost 2 years, and it is totally manageable but ALWAYS present. Thanks

- Keona No problem Keona! I have actually made a recovery and I consider myself for the most pain free. I have a bit of issues with the arthritis of my facet joints, but that's only if I get a few bad night's sleep in a row, eating poorly for a few days or find myself in a position we're I'm overdoing some activity like sitting. And when I mean recovery, I don't feel my disc protrusion has been healed, it's just healed to the point of we're i'm pain free. Keep in mind if I was still in pain, I wouldn't be deadlifting close to 400lbs: From a Herniated Disc & Sciatica to a 375lb Deadlift | The Journey Thus Far kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpnRYq1_mMR6grM

Holy shit I’m so glad I found this! I’m Only half way into this video but I cannot sit, it’s been 4.5 months. Driving is agony and laying on my stomach is the comfiest thing or sitting in a really slouch position with my back in a c curve. I am on so many painkillers and never heard of anyone with this so I am worrying. Physio chiro nothing helps! I am a runner (use to be) a mother of two little kids and a hairstylist. It’s tough!!

Whoever is reading this, do not follow this advice. Stop if there is pain otherwise you will make your injury worse, and take longer to recover

Hi Remi - lower back pain is remarkably unpleasant, as you obviously know. I too struggled for months before getting some official results similar to yours. Time off, started exercises, stopped exercises, perscription drugs, loss of memory, no sitting, lots of lying on the floor, etc, etc. My physio was helpful and realistic, like yours, which was awesome. Eventually walking and swimming and resting enabled my back to improve. I am also documenting my lower back recovery journey on my channel and blog. Thanks for sharing your story. Matthew

- Matthew Checked out you're youtube channel and subbed. Big fan of what you're doing and I'm curious to see how you're recovery continues to go! I know something I wish I did was that I wish I started making video's when I first suffered my injury. I ended up missing out on a lot of the early stuff and kinda had to explain my whole story in one video as opposed to a day to day or week to week journey. Great stuff and hopefully you can make a full recovery soon! I look forward to you're future video's :)

thanks for posting this. On inversion table, did you find it hard on your ankles and legs?

- John No problem John. To answer your question, I never found it hard on my ankles or legs. I would get the odd crack here or there in knees or ankles, but that's because you're still creating a traction stretch through the ankles and knees when hanging upside down. Hopefully that answers your question :) Note: I just posted a new video on how to use an inversion table, as well some other detailed things regarding this if you would like to check that out as well :) How to Use an Inversion Table | Recovery Tips for Disc Bulge & Disc Herniation kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXfGenutrtGBY9E

Thank you for thus video i found it informative . I currently have an l5 s1 disc bulge. It appears to be getting worse as it has now causing pain down both legs. I am in a lot of pain unless i am heavily medicated. I attend physio but i don't think it is helping. They haven't mentioned traction or anything like that. So thanks for your information in this video.
