Im so excited to see your new videos! I am myself someone transitioning into programming while also learning languages, so seeing your new channel just reinforces why I decided to do this as well, and if you havé a knack for learning languages you can most likely succeed in CS without having a CS major ❤

Hey Nastya! Coming from your old French channel. I hope you'll keep old videos there even if not posting new ones as they are sooo helpful! It's lovely to see you again and listen to your story. I am sure it will be inspiring to many others who studied linguistics but don't want translation or teaching. Wishing you lots of luck in your career, and congratulations on all this assiduousness! :) Love from Switzerland!

Hi nastya, I am so happy I came across your channel! Я тоже русская но я родилась здесь в США. I majored in linguistics and minored in CS in university, but I have been having a lot of trouble figuring out what to do with my degree. I am passionate about computational linguistics but have not applied to any types of these jobs. It’s so nice to see someone on a similar path as me. Thank you for sharing your journey! I hope to get a job similar to yours one day

Hi Nastya do you think that in order to work as a computational linguist you need to have a real strong knowledge in programming and in informatics, statistics and Artifical intelligence? Because I know that most of the time companies don’t really know the figure of computational linguists yet, so they prefer to hire software engineers or someone with a degree in Artificial intelligence. I’m graduating in foreign languages and literatures in Chinese, Russian and Japanese and then I’d like to go for a major in Linguistics that is really focused on computational linguistics, linguistics with courses of programming, computational linguistics 1-2, Neural networks for marching learning, corpus linguistics and then all the classic linguistics courses. Do you think it can be enough to find a job as a computational linguists ?

Short answer is: yes, you definitely do. With linguistics alone, forget about any interdisciplinary jobs.

I liked the video, I liked the content, and I like you.hhh I have a question. What do you think about Masters' degree in Educational Phycology for linguistics major. is it good to choose Computational linguistics or Educational Phycology in term of a good career. asking only for your own opinion. Thank you

Hi Nastya, thank you for sharing this. I majored in English and Linguistics. I was fortunate enough to get a job at GitHub but not as a developer. They liked that I knew a bit of front end development and had an interest in tech. I could switch my role within the company if I wanted to and I think that due to my background, the natural choice would be something language/linguistics related. I want to know if you already knew Python when you applied for that role you mentioned they wanted someone who knew Python. You already knew front end development but did you also know how to program in Python? and if so, was your knowledge advanced? thanks again

@@mattreggie4481 what about getting a certificate with it?
@mattreggie44812 ай бұрын
@@Noman-nd9lk Well, you can be sure that as soon as you apply for a job, having just a certificate, dozens of candidates with a diploma in IT/computer studies will pop up. And a diploma is still cherished higher than a certificate. Long story short: you can try to achieve it this way, but don't promise yourself too much, to avoid possibly getting disappointed later.
