That's the same material as my hat that I got from Costco. I think I'll try steam first, then move on to hairspray if/when that doesn't work. Thanks for the input.

No a cloth cap will only get wrinkly. You would take tissue paper and make a lot of flat 8-9” pancakes, and stuff the crown as tightly as possible. Until the crown looks tight and wrinkle free. Then steam it like that. And let it dry stuffed tightly. the only thing you can do for a newsboy cap is steam it, stuff if and steam it, (no spray or anything )

Quit with the crap hats. ||But a high quality PALM LEAF straw. dunk it And form it as you like. helpful hints "High quality" means the hat is not shellacked and it DOES NOT have one of those stink harboring cloth or foam bands , you want leather! That rag in ]your hand is garbage.

Palm weights about 10x the weight of this hat. It’s heavy and stiff, and not ideal for dress hats. Palm hats don’t sell well either. They’re heavy, which works for westerns, but not for dress hats. The wholesalers on broadway sells palm hats for the street venders. It’s a popular straw for western hats, rather than dress hats. Palm is also considered the cheapest of the cheap, there’s no straw that costs less than palm.. Some might argue that it’s a “garbage” straw because it’s so cheap and heavy. It’s way too heavy for me, I couldn’t wear a palm straw hat every day. Thanks for sharing, I don’t believe there are “crap” hats. There are lightweight ones like this. Heavy ones, like palm. They serve different purposes 😊

@@KTGHATS Yes it is cheap it's also far sturdier than the far more expensive Shantung. But get that white straw wet one time , and it goes off the reservation, ruined A Palm , you shape it as you like it, time and again as it gets softer. I have gotten three years out of a palm, never even one from a Baily or Resitol straw. Yeah cowboy hats. Those town man hats won't make a week. To itch his own...
