Echoing the comments about Book 2. It is phenomenal, and does a lot of what you liked about Book 1. I also really enjoyed Books 3 and 4, for what it's worth.

You have a treat in store with the next books. The time period when Knausgaard is WRITING the books isn't nearly as relevant as the time period in his life that he's EXPLORING. There are many more such periods to come. I think you may bump it up once you read more of the series. It's one of the greatest novels of our time. I hope you don't stretch out your finishing by reading a book a year. There's still more he's written since and is now writing. You're going to want to catch up. His sensibility is unmatched as far as i know in 21st century writing. Happy reading ahead.

My favorites from 'My Struggle' are Part 2 and Part 6, which have more plot and are more estructured than the rest. I enjoyed all of them except Part 5. Thanks for the video!

I think Book 1 is a high point in the series, but he does reach these peaks in each of the subsequent volumes. It’s an aggregative experience as well as some outstanding standalone reads. Volume 6 is the biggest struggle with Knausgaard genuinely taking the piss out of his adoring readers by including 400 pages on Hitler in a 1400 page coda. By that stage anyone still reading is all in whether they like it or not and you just have to ploughing through. That, I think, is his sense of humour! My connection with Knausgaard is that we are almost exactly the same age. So that the music playing in the background when he’s a teen trying to get girls to like him is also the soundtrack to those same craven years of my life. I loved this series, but I don’t think I’ll be rereading them any time soon.
