Anna Janes Same here. I was still in elementary school so little kids asked "why is your face bumpy and red?" I went home and cried about it because I was so embarrassed, but now im in high school and no one cares anymore. And in addition to that most of my acne is gone, so it's gotten much better.

Just because you "could have gone through worse" does not invalidate your struggles or feelings about your acne journey! Don't ever feel like you have to defend your insecurities because there are things happening to other people; it's beautiful that you felt comfortable talking about your life with millions of strangers - be proud of that :) you never know what helps totally transform someone else's day.

Lauren Feldman Thank you!! I'm too tired to form proper words so I was searching for someone to tell sweet Chantel that this was her struggle and it's okay to be open with how hard it is to deal with!! I haven't gone through acne struggles, but I admire those who have because they usually come out on the other end stronger (or if they don't come out of it, they still build a wonderful confidence that can't be taken away). Chantel and anyone else going through this shouldn't feel like they have to feel guilty for feeling pain or frustration or anything over their acne, no matter what someone else could be going through. Pain is relative.

Acne was probably what ruined most of my childhood and up until now. I fought every single morning, afternoon, and night with my acne, spent countless minutes and hours PER DAY fussing and worrying about my skin, the makeup that could cover it, planning my life around my periods and my breakouts, and mastering photo-editing apps that could eliminate my acne. I honestly don't think that much can compare to suffering with severe acne when it comes to some people. It can be devastating enough to even stop a person from going outside, going to school, getting a JOB.....

I took acne medication that made me extremely nauseous and vomit almost daily. I still took it bc it helped with acne. People called me pizza face or moon face. What really bugged me is that you'll be living your life, and random people become dermatologists and recommend you to "cut out dairy" or "you should wash your face" or "stay off the chocolate"!! The only thing that worked for me was TIME. I had to live out my middle school and high school years as pizza face. Kids can be so cruel

I know it's super annoying when people ask you if you wash your face or if you moisture haha. But I have had acne, or I should say consistent acne all over my cheeks for years and the only thing that worked for me was not drinking cow milk anymore. No joke, I slowly substituted cow milk with soy milk(or any other plant based) and in 3-4 months I went from 100% acne to 10%. Of course, I always get some right before my period, but in my case it was a hormonal issue. (The cow milk was provided by a lady owning a real cow, not talking about the carton crap from markets) It's fascinating how everyone has a different skin trigger, whether is some intolerance, excess hormones or simply genetics. From all the things people can do , taking a pause from dairy for a few months is the least damaging to the body. (In comparison with birth control and who knows what pills with 1000 side effects). It makes sense to start from the easiest steps, see what works , and then progress to the heavy duty stuff when it doesn't. I met people with acne who had a very poor skincare and they would sleep with makeup and not wash and all of that. I know it's super annoying when you do everything as you should and you hear that advice for a million times, but there are people out there who weren't doing these things, tried them out by given advice, and had seen results.

Chantel you did such an amazing job expressing how frustrating it can be to have acne not only as a teenager, but as an adult. I just turned 24 and I still deal with cystic acne and I can just remember sitting in class and thinking “I have the worst skin of anyone in here” and being so scared to have people get really close to me. Thank you so much for being candid and sharing your skin journey with us.

Honestly, the last message about how those who really care about you don't care about your acne is SO TRUE. I got to college and my acne just went wild around the middle of my first semester and I was so self conscious, I hated looking in the mirror and was always so stressed about getting rid of it. Every time I looked at someone my first thought was that they were looking at my pimples. But my friends, my roommate, everyone that I interacted literally never said anything. After it went away, I would joke about it with my friends and they were still so kind about it. That's how you know you have true friends. 😍❤️

I started to get acne in elementary and middle school. It's so frustrating when people give me those tips and I follow them. I've washed my face every morning and night for like half a year now and it's not like "flawless" I change out my face soap often. People need to accept acne and society, as a whole, needs to accept acne in pictures and magazines.

This was so amazing. I am on accutane and I’ve just started. I have struggled with acne on my chest and back and nobody knows. My friends all ask why I’m on birth control and I just tell them to regulate my period. It’s really amazing to hear someone who went through what I’m going through. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this long, emotional straining , and though journey. Thank you for telling your story and putting it out there. It really means a lot to me and others out there struggling with the same issues. Being someone who is as young as I am, and taken every medication and topical before accutane it is nice to know there are others who don’t have perfect skin. Thank you for this amazing video.

I actually still get acne at 22 years old. I finally went to a dermatologist for the first time this year. The benefit is that he really looked at my skin and determined what products I should use and what the plan of action should be. I also have extremely sensitive skin as well as the skin conditions keratosis pilaris and rosacea. I have suffered with borderline severe acne since I was 14. Happily, I can say that my acne is 100% under control with my new skin care routine and prescription topical creams and oral meds (which by the way, are geared for sensitive skin like mine). No birth control necessary! 😊🙆‍♀️

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have struggled with acne for years (I'm in my 20s now) and have tried every product, home remedy, doctor recommendation, everything out there, and my acne always bounces back. It was always hard as a middle school/ high schooler because none of my friends had acne like I did, and the only people in the media with acne were the "nerds". Ladylike has always been a confidence booster for me; you are all so comfortable in your bodies, and you celebrate that you are beautiful even though you might not be society's idea of "perfect". I’ve found yet another reason why I love chantel so much. She’s so real. I’ve had so many struggles with acne similar to hers but last year I finally got put on accutane (actually isotretinoin now) and it has been a life saver. Don’t get me wrong, breakouts still happen but they are much easier to control now. It’s comforting to know that other people understand the struggle and that something that caused me an intense amount of anxiety is something not so isolating or abnormal. Oh👏my👏gosh👏 This is my story!!! I tried almost all of the same things as Chantel. I tried doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline and accutane, plus 2 topicals daily. Finally at 26 I switched dermatologist and suggested that I may have hormonal cystic acne like my mother because nothing else was working for me. My dermatologist at the time didnt believe it could be hormonal acne because I was in my teens and everyone gets acne. With my new doctor I asked for spirnolactone. My mom had been taking it since 1993 and it controllers her acne very well. Finally someone was willing to listen to my suggestion. I have been on it for a little over a year and use differen gel and clindamycin gel. My face is much clearer and I have very few break outs. I relate to this story so much. I’m happy to find something that works for me and I hope everyone struggling with acne finds what works for them.

I love that you're sharing your story for people that are going through this aswell. The only thing that I find so weird is the ammount of medication you tried. I'm from the Netherlands and there's such a huge difference in the US with taking medication. It blows my mind sometimes. Anyway I think it's great that you're putting this story out there!

As someone who is going through this right now, this is really refreshing to watch. It feels as if i’m the only one who is struggling with it. After taking two rounds of Doxycycline with no results, I found that Bactrim worked for me. A year later, everything came back full force. Now, i’m going to a naturopath and my skin has improved tremendously. It’s amazing to see how different everyone is when it comes to what medications/products work for them. Thank you so much for this video, I really needed it.

I'm now a sophomore in high school and my acne is finally starting to get better but I still have pimples now and again, I'm currently sorta on Accutane meaning that its been prescribed to me and I have the pills but I've taken a break because of how dry my skin got and I had awful back pain where I physically couldn't move. I'm finally starting to make peace with my skin and find products that work for me. thank you so much chantel for making this video not only for me but everyone else out there who has dealt and or currently dealing with acne.

Luckily I didn't suffer with severe acne. Got pimples mainly on my forehead and little bit on my cheeks. I tried a lot of drugstore acne cleanser but it didn't do anything for me. So I tried proactiv, and it surprisingly worked well for me. Then I switched to a Korean skincare routine, which also helps. Now I rarely get any pimples.

I just went to my dermatologist today and she also prescribed me a long “s” medication. I've had small pimples or bumps on my face and forehead, arms, back and chest, they were very small and not oily that I thought it was allergy reaction to something I'm eating, my skin cleared up from age 19-23 then BAM crazy acne is here, I tried facials, creams and antibiotics, but then I asked my doctor to prescribe me accutane which he did, and it's been amazing I haven't had any pimples, all the bumps on my body and face went away, I'm so so so so happy with my face, I don't think I've ever been this comfortable in my own skin

I got my period when I was 9, and omg, my face was literally a war zone, I remember when I was in 5th grade, there was this girl called Alexa, and she called me to turn my back and so I did, and she went "ahhh, omg what happened to your face", and then she ran away. I remember feeling so embarrassed and crying when I came home, I'm a freshman now, and STILL have acne.

Thanks for sharing your story! I ended up on spironolactone after about 15 years of fighting my acne. Around the time I tried it (abt 9 years ago), my dermatologist told me that it was just starting to be used for acne as it was created to treat heart conditions. It drastically helped my hormonal breakouts and constantly oil-slicked skin.

I've had acne for as long as i can remember and I've always been extremely self conscious of my face. I've tried everything under the sun and even my parents are so tired of trying products that don't work. It has definitely gotten a bit better because I've started using natural products on my skin. I'm less self conscious but i still very uncomfortable and would rather be clear but I'm glad i have finally gotten out of the sadness that my acne caused me. I was on birth control for acne & it made me throw up at 6am every single morning(at 5 foot 9, I weighed 119pounds), I got my period every 2weeks, and got ovarian cysts. After a year, I finally stopped taking it after trying to find the right dosage and it just never worked. A while later, I found a lump in my chest too, and just like Chantel, I had a Fibroadenoma and had to have a biopsy and checkups twice a year... it was so not worth it...

Audi B all forms of birth control I have tried make me throw up to! And Ive researched it and asked my doctor but have not found a reason. I am also quite a low weight (5’6 115 lbs) so maybe that has caused it

Linnea Connery Definitely ask your doctor if it is the pill! I went to all kinds of appointments & they even put me on anti-stress pills (didn’t work & I still threw up). I lost a total of 40 pounds in a year on bc! Ask your doctor to check for cysts on your ovaries, they won’t harm you & normally go away on their own, but they said that’s what the bc caused, causing me to throw up every morning! I hope you feel better soon!!!

This is likely because you already had high levels of estrogen (birth control is basically synthetic estrogen). Taking even more estrogen when your body already has a high amount can cause cystic acne, cysts, breast swelling and weight gain, etc.

I have acne but it’s more like lots of red bumps across my t-zone and chin. I started getting them probably when I was about 9, and didn’t know what to do about it. I have been so insecure about them for over two years now and always am trying to cover them up. I do have makeup, but it’s just powder that does little to cover them up. Now though, I am so fed up with worrying about whether my face looks ok or not that I just own it and go out with little or no makeup on. And let me tell you, it feels great. I feel amazing without any foundation on! And I think I look better without it. If anyone is like me and is insecure about their face, please just know that you are beautiful inside and out, no matter how much acne you have.❤️❤️❤️
