My dad worked my husband out of his house three times. We were patient for 2 years praying and finally my dad said yes. ( This is one good thing about relationships without sex) I don't know if our love and faith would have grown these 11 years in marriage without these struggles. It made us stronger. Las las My dad took my husband as his first son and they were the best of friends (they hide secrets from me and gist like kilode)😁

I struggled with my in-laws too. It took time for them to like and accept me lol, We were very young and also I’m Haitian/Christian and my wife’s family is African/Muslim. But now, they treat me like their own son 🥲

I’m struggling with this same thing, my mum doesn’t like the person I’m with because of where he’s from but then we both have decided to start praying about it and committing my family’s heart into God’s hand and I’m sure one day they would see him in a different light. The same advice applies. There's no winning by logic or reasoning. First prayers, then through wisdom, seek to understand them and see how to gain their interest into what matters to you as well. Also seek counsel from an elder who can probably understand them better and maybe even have a conversation with them.

Thank you for sharing. In-law acceptance is the work of the Holy spirit and the child they gave birth to. It is how you present your husband to be or wife to be to your parents that they will accept him /her. Of course there will still be some drilling, interrogation but the basis you used to start goes a long way.

The struggle with Nigerian parent is realll especially if you just got back after 2 years abroad. You will just be like can this people not see what I am trying to say?!?! I won't lie, it was way tougher in the beginning for me, but Holy Spirit has been teaching me to calm down and gradually its been working for me but sometimes it's as though the nuts go loose again😂 I am not even somebody that struggles with anger normally, but this one is different😂

Uncle boo is a good man, his story shows the human aspect/tendency of him and it's okay (how life is/could be, you know), how he allowed the Holy Spirit to help him have control over the flesh. Some men, even women have cunningly laboured to cut ties between their spouses and their parents because of what the parents did to hurt them knowingly/unknowingly in the past especially before the wedding. I saw the same approach in sister bae also, when she was jealous of your female best friend, you know, her approach (shows that she's human after all but her relationship with God is real and that would not permit hate/dislike for long, her body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, what relationship hath righteousness (light) with unrighteousness (darkness), the struggle was real until the strange element of jealousy had to be forced out. It's your intentional way of living for me, "many" people are not intentional, they rather always say "that's who I am, I am being myself" and because of this, life is hard for them, at the end of the day, they blame it on spiritual stronghold and any other thing they can lay hands on/hold unto. Be Intentional! God will keep helping us.
