I have 18 acres of heavily wooded land around Wills Point, and the shots range from 35-80yds on average. We currently have a sounder of 20+ coming in, and yes it’s all about shot placement. I have pig and coyote hunted down south with the 223 exclusively for years and you are correct shot placement is the key. I originally was using expensive hollow point or NBT ammo which in a target rich environment get expensive quick. A few years ago I tried using plane jane 55 grain fmj with advertised velocities of 3240 which out of my 20” rifle will be approximately 3120. I was amazed how well it worked on both hogs and coyotes and exit holes when I had them were consistent with a guy who was with me shooting a 7.62x39 upper. The AR was designed around a 20” barrel and was extremely effective and shortening it took velocity away. Which in my humble opinion hurts the effectiveness by reducing speed and speed kills. From then on all I have used for those combo hunts and have not regretted it and have saved a lot of money on ammo. I can bring a whole case for a fraction what the more expensive stuff is, just know the drop and shot placement is key.

5.56 fits well in the military context. Give a skilled athletic marksman an m4 and 4+ magazines in an urban setting and he's good to go, even when he's outnumbered, and he'll still be mobile. Hunters have to be pickier with ammo i think, 70 grain tsx seems to be their pick. But you're right, shot placement is paramount.

The hunting stories are the best part of your channel. I like how you've got it put together, hunting footage at the end. Good stuff. Pigs are everywhere, it's so nuts. I'm near the city in Austin, but I hail from Victoria County, where I hunt. Even as close to the city as I am, there are areas where pigs have been rooting around in the nature areas I run. One of these days I know I'm going to run up on a sounder with nothing but an iPhone on me. Great content.

My man, I just bought my first handgun heckler and Koch vp9sk and realized after watching more of the gun community videos. That there’s a lot of brothers into gun, in my old neighborhood I didn’t know a single person with a gun (shocking). Your channel is very informative and I’m going to look into an ar 15 once I get used to the handgun and get a ccw and a bit more training.
@richardmcdonald41903 жыл бұрын
Of course my fist AR was in 5.56/223, back before you had bass in your voice. Now I only have one 223, but over the years of new AR-15 calibers, I've done the barrel and bolt changes. 5.56/223, 300 Blk, and 6.5 Grendel. That pretty much covers the capability of the AR-15 platform. Throw in my AR-10 and I think I have the platform covered. I'm a shooter now, not a hunter or the 300 HMR would be my next AR variant. Wilson has me believing its the ultimate AR-15, Pig gun/caliber. Your channel is the bomb, with content and action. Keep on keeping on, Bro.!!

I just came across your channel for an ar-10 build and I can say, I prefer you explaining and talking about what you’re using and every little part of the build. .223 here in the state of NC for depredation permits is the only way to go for the cost. we shoot 20-30 deer a night on a 2,200 acre soybean field during the summer. if you shoot Deer/Pigs in the neck, lungs, heart, head they die no questions asked. i have personally dropped 200lb deer from high shoulder shots with 223 cheap hollow points inside 125 yards. your message on shot placement is 100 percent fact. thanks for the video!

I appreciate the talk. Some vids lack explanation. I personally love .223/5.56 . I use my AR a lot for hog hunting. Yes all calibers have loss of animals due to shot placement. I have lost animals with multi calibers also. But I have dropped way more animals with my .223/5.56 then I have lost. Good caliber and firearm. Plus semi allows a follow up shot way faster then a bolt action any day.

Love when the commentary is followed by shooting. What was missing here was, What 223 bullet for hogs, 62, 68, or what grain. I dismissed 55's as I figure they're to light for big pigs, but I don't know.

Damn, I bought a mini 14 in 300 blackout and then I went and put on layaway another 300 blackout but this one is made by Daniel Defense. Eventually I will own a little bit of everything out there. This is insane for me now though because the bullets for this 300 blackout are very expensive. I didn't know this at the time of making my purchase. Being green can be frustrating. I'm so impressed with Daniel Defense I'm buying four more rifles from these guys before I'm satisfied. H&K is on my list as well. I'm gonna have to sell some toys to get anything from those guys. I have never been afraid to spend full price on the things I truly love. Retailers all over town love it when I come in because I never jew them down, reason being, I don't like it when people try to knock me down in price. You get what you pay for. Continued training seems to be helping me. I've only been shooting for three and a half years. I'm just now starting to relax and enjoy plinking. The first year was expensive because I missed a lot. ...lol... Fuck I love weapons of all varieties and appreciate the engineering behind everything that has been created as well as improved over the last ten years. Actually, this last two years has been revealing. Firearms are way too cool to successfully ban. Libtards are crazy if they think they're gonna abolish a machine of this high degree of sophistication. ...lol...lol... when something is this good, you just can't deny it. 223, bla bla bla, fuck it, to save confusion I might as well buy them all. ...lol...lol... There's a good reason why we love these weapons, They're effective for removing the unnecessary things in life and for just plain plinking on Sundays and Monday's and Tuesday's, okay, I'm addicted. EVERYDAY is plinking day. ...lol...lol...

Another excellent video. Great commentary on topics that need to be discussed. My take is the . 223 will get the job done but shot placement is crucial.
