Your feed is excellent both your work with the plants and your creativity in presenting the material! I'm challenged moving my seedlings that appear otherwise healthy out of a germination chamber at 14 days, height of 8.0cm, with 90% humidity. When exposed to even just 50-60% humidity, mixing with a room humidity of 35%, the leaves curl and stem droops within 5-10 minutes. If not closed back up, death occurs at 1hr. Any transition tips/protocols? Maybe I'm doing it wrong, lol. Thanks! >>> DemonQueer

Greasy Monkey I’ve never had that happen. Other than roots being too dry, that’s never been a problem for me. Either you have to much radiant heat or your medium to too dry. Humidity shouldn’t effect anything that quick.

@@GrowingAnswers Me either, lol. The plant is in a rock wool cube sitting about an inch above a 14.4cm deep water reservoir. I am the author of my own dilemma. Guess I'll have to experiment this one out. Maybe I should go back to A. thaliana. ;)

I have a question that I havent found answer anywhere yet. Maybe you can solve it for me. I want to grow plant cuttings (Tropical plants) and I have made a mini greenhouse box. For lighting I have a 10W led lamp with 6700k and 1000lumen output. I wondering if this is going to be enough for a 50x30cm box with 25cm height of light. Secondly will it make a difference if I add another grow light lamp (red/blue) along with this current lamp. Will it be better for the root growth and plant health? Please let me know.

Hey Rehan! I think you'll have plenty of light with that setup. I have 2 5000k 16W fluorescent replacement LEDs with around 1800 (3600 total) lumens each covering around 20 inches by 80 inches of tropical plant cuttings (pothos, spider plants, rubber plants, and some aloe vera). So that's around 0.35 lumens per cm2. You have around 1000lumens/1500 cm2 which is 0.66. You should be fine unless there's something funky with the spectrum of your 6700k lights. My plants are growing like crazy with about half the light.

@@TheAlexLafreniere Thanks for the practical reply. Loved the explanation. I also wanna know when you take a cutting and put it in moist soil in the grow box, do you give it the same light or no light for a week? I am really confused by the reply from "Growing Answers" as everyone else said that never keep the cuttings in darkness in the first week, only if you want the rooted cuttings to flower which is not the case on this. Would like to learn a bit more about your process of taking a cutting to root development, especially with regards to light level. Thanks
@TheAlexLafreniere
@TheAlexLafreniere 5 жыл бұрын
@@Rehan90 I like to put the cutting in water for a few weeks. If you leave them in water too long the roots become accustomed to water and have trouble getting used to soil. But the big benefit I find with water is that you don't have to worry about the soil staying perfectly moist, as cuttings can dry out really easily before they develop roots.

I've never tried putting cuttings in the dark. I put them under 24 hour light.

@@TheAlexLafreniere so as soon as you take the cuttings, you put them in water under 24 hour light and it roots? Lastly, will they root in winter season? (my box will maintain 23c temperature and around 75% humidity.?

Rehan Ahmed cuttings don’t need a lot of light. In fact they should be kept in the dark for a while. You don’t need red/blue either.

@@GrowingAnswers so it means that when I get my cuttings (without the roots btw), I should plant them and keep them in a low light space for them to develop roots? And it wont be a good idea to put them under 6400k / 1000lm light? All I want is for these cuttings to root and I am struggling to find a right way to do it (Theoretically) Plants that I have in mind are Begonias, Alocasias, Pothos, Fittonias, C Woodi etc.

Rehan Ahmed darkness for about a week. Then very low light until roots develop. High humidity in a sealed environment until they have good roots. Leaf tips should be cut. Should have no leaves except for 1-3 at the top.
