My Testimony: Baptism of the Holy Spirit & Speaking in Tongues

Last Sunday, I was laying in bed and said a normal prayer. It was around 2 am. I fell back asleep after the prayer. I was awakened with the spirit speaking tongues in my head. It was first in my head. I was wondering what was going on because it wouldn't stop. So I didn't question God too much, I just said, " I receive it". After I said that, He said, " I am coming back....be ready." I still kept hearing the youngest in my head, so I sat up in my bed and the tongues downloaded from my head to my mouth. I started uttering at first and felt a heavy presence of God and kept uttering. I got out my bed and still kept uttering and thanking and praising God with tears. The uttering turned into an unknown language, like described in the video. Each day it got stronger and clearer, sounding like an Arabic language that only God knows. I don't do it on my own. I feel the prompting and urge from the holy Spirit before it comes out. It's hard to stop it. It ignites through prayer or praise music. It has gotten so strong that I'm praying in tongues. At one point, I was concerned about what others would think if they hear me but God knew my thoughts and said, " Don't deny me." This is a new thing He is doing with me. He is definitely pouring out His spirit these last days.

To people that are not seeking God, you would appear crazy. My story is very similar to yours. Someone recorded me when it happened. They assumed I was having a mental breakdown. It lasted for a while.

@@CynthiaLewis-b3x You're right, if they are not in Christ, they don't know. I never spoke in tongues. But, I know it's the spirit manifesting in me because after I speak it, I'm praising and thanking God ( genuine thanks) in English. It's like I'm having a prayer and praise session.

Starting to learn that there's false tongues too. I've witnessed it at a funeral recently and it freaked me out. This man was speaking in what sounded like tongues, but then he began to speak from the perspective of the decease, telling the family not to cry and that he was in a good place. I rebuked him because God is highly against divination and communicating with the dead in the Old Testament, so whatever he was doing was not of god. It was demonic.

I thought that I lost the gift of speaking in tongues. Your testimony helped me reconnect with the Lord in an unimaginable way. I have been baptized by the water twice. But I never asked the Lord to baptize me by the spirit. I had been moving as though he already gifted me with the fire. & he’s brought me into the wilderness. I’ve been battling with doubts and feeling discouraged of my abilities. He said ask and you shall receive. So I asked him!! And it fell upon me! Without a doubt I could feel the Holy Spirit laying hands on me. And my head began to heat up completely! And the spirit just flowed through me! I got so overwhelmed with joy I couldn’t help but to cry out in gratitude and then I nearly started hyperventilating because I felt his presence right in front of me. God is SO GOOD!! Mark 11:24 (KJV) 1. have a DESIRE 2. when you pray, believe that you've ALREADY received it 3. You WILL have it. After you get it, ask for more. You WILL sing in the Spirit (1 Cor 14:15). Don't listen to people who don't have Spiritual gifts. These people will discourage you because they don't believe His Word. Studying the Word and believing It with faith are two different things. You can have everything that He has promised! (Lk 11:9-11).

Hi, glad to hear this testimony. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire un 2019 a day before my water baptizm without knowing it was a baptizm. When I was in church for the first time and heard people speaking in tongue I wanted it so hard. Didn't know it was the Holy Spirit putting this fire in me for speaking in tongue. My parents was AT home and a video was release about receiving the speaking in tongue. I Asked my mom to lay hand on me and at that moment I just know it was like fire,couldn't stop speaking and they told me I speak about 30 min and didn't realise the time. For thé first Time in my life I got a gift and it comes from God 🙏 thank you Lord Jesus-Christ,thank you Father thank you Holy Spirit you are more than Real and you love us so much,sorry to take it for granted. I received the Holy Spirit when I was 16 years old. I felt a strong light from my head to my toes and I had a real conversation with Jesus. I was strong in faith but over time I grew apart. I’ve felt the Holy Spirit calling me back and today just came back from a retreat and am ready to receive it again. I want to grow the relationship I once had with God that was so close.

The fact that i have gotten baptized in the holy spirit through worshipping him at my sister house alone in a guest bedroom a couple days ago. Its crazy!!. Not everyone has the gift of tongues! It sounds as if you’ve experienced the FIRE baptism of the HS but just without tongues! 1 Cor 14 shows us that not everyone has the gift of tongues, and that’s completely ok! No harm in continuing to pray for it, though 😊

@@AmandaPittman Thank you! That’s also my interpretation of the word. One of my friends who attended Bible college declares that speaking in tongues is the only evidence of the fire baptism. I went to scripture, and determined based on scripture that her understanding is incorrect, respectfully. ​​​​​@@AmandaPittman Everyone can have the gift of speaking in tongues and you don't have to keep praying and waiting just start with few words and Holyspirit will give more words. Also can ask someone who has the gift to pray for you and then you start with a word or two like them and you will receive more. It is a very imp gift to grow. As Paul said...I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; (1 Corinthians 14:18-19) for personal spiritual growth tongues is very important but not for public edification that's what this Chapter is saying, not that it is not necessary or important. Hear 'Its Supernatural' videos on power of speaking in tongues and how immensely you can be blessed if used daily. In 1cor 14 it is talking like as a Preacher he can't preach the sermon in tongues, he has to use words which people will understand, that's the understanding of that chapter.

​@@AmandaPittmanIf the verses in 1 Corinthians 12 actually taught that the gift of tongues is not for every believer, then the same verses would also have to mean that not every believer can believe God for miracles, believe God for healing, or, if we applied the same logic to Ephesians 4:11, that not every believer can evangelize. Note that it asks, “Do all speak with tongues?”, not “Can all speak with tongues?” I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you prophesied. (1 Corinthians 14:5, ) Why would Paul the Apostle wish for something that was contrary to God’s will? And, if that wasn’t the will of God, why would the Holy Spirit allow that wish to be permanently recorded in the inerrant Word of God? Are all teachers? the Bible teaches us in 1 Peter 3:15 that all believers should be ready to teach about their faith. So there’s a clear difference between having the gift of teaching and just being able to teach. Are all workers of miracles?. there’s a difference between the gift of miracles and experiencing miracles in one’s own life. Do all have the gift of healing? the Bible teaches us in Mark 16:18 that all believers will be able to lay hands on the sick and see them recover. So there’s a difference between the gift of healing and a believer being able to lay hands on the sick and believe for a healing. The same reasoning would apply to the gift of the evangelist. Not every believer is an Ephesians 4:11 evangelist, but every believer should evangelize.

I literally cried watching this. It took me back to my experience, and it was as though I was reliving it . I understood on a deep level everything you were putting into words. When this happened to me, it wasn't even something I asked for, and so as it was happening, it was like my body was in shock because tongues are being spoken through my mouth, but I was having a FULL and complete conversation in my head SIMULTANEOUSLY! The hold time I was trying to grab a hold of myself, but I had no control over what was coming out of my mouth. When I spoke in tongues, at first it sounded like an African language. It was so beautiful. As time went on, each time I spoke, it sounded different. I've heard it sound, Spanish, French, and even Japanese and I'm having these experience by myself and not know how to share or ask for guidance because like you, I was raised very reserved in the faith and never heard it spoken around me. And what i usually hear growing up is you do this in private and its taboo to speak of. I had no guidance and still hardly do , so I turn to my bible and ask God to help me understand it and how to use it. I knew of it but not the depts about it or how it worked. So thank you for sharing. One thing I heard you said is that after this, you started hearing God speak to you more. You used the term "download loaded by the Holy Spirit." When I speak in tongues, It all comes pouring out and sometimes ill ask for translation in my head simultaneously as I am speaking sometimes I don't have to because then it switches to English and it's as though I am hearing myself speak, but its separate from my thought, so its like I'm hearing myself in third person and have no control over the translation that's coming. For instance, as im hearing myself, my thoughts will think I'm going to say one thing, but my mouth says something else. Its like im not the one speaking. That's the best way I can describe it. I say that to say this. Is that also your experience in hearing God why you say "downloaded by the Holy Spirit"? PS YES YES YES! Arabic is definitely the way I describe how mine has more consistently sound now. When you said that, I was like WAAW! Can anyone else in the comments also share their experience with a sister in Christ? I would love to understand my gift more. Sometimes I feel like I'm on an island by myself. It seems I'm called to the prophetic as well. This was nothing I ever prayed or ask for. Interested to hear the responses ❤.

It seems that GOD has given you the gift of tongues and the interpretation of tongues. That's so beautiful! It is definitely a prophetic gifting sis...and I believe due to you having spoken in different languages there may be a global call on your life...But GOD will reveal clearly in time as you spend time with HIM and in HIS word...Protect your one on one time with HIM...GOD bless you

I was born and raised an SDA and I was always hungry for more. My seek lead me to a ministry that worshipped on Sundays that I was completely being fed by as well as a interdenominational mass choir which helped break the self-righteous walls that I had against other denominations. The ministry hosted it's second annual retreat and I remember saying on the bus that I wanted to speak in tongues. On the second day of the retreat I know this may sound weird but I honestly I remember feeling that there was going to be a union or marriage between me and the LORD. I wore a long skirt and white top, and was worshipping by myself in the back while praise and worship was going on. I remember walking back and forth and then my mouth began moving at a fast pace, and my belly felt like FIRE!!!!! Sheesssh!!! I honestly became a bit nervous because of what was happening and the intensity of fire I was feeling, so I walked towards where my friends were and they noticed what was happening. One guy knowing that I was an adventist at the time jumped up with joy and cried out "JESUS!!!" ( I will never forget that). One of my other friends placed her hand on my back and began to pray for me and I felt a calm come over me and the tongues and heat subsided...Amazing experience...

Well, not all people are given the gift of tongues! You may have experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit but have a different spiritual gift! Also, ask God to reveal to you if there are any spiritual or mental hindrances at play. Sometimes people struggle with feelings of unworthiness, fear, or even past occult linkings that need to be cut off. If none of those things are at play, the last suggestion I would give you is to go to a spirit-filled believer who has facilitated this baptism before and ask them to lead you through this. Many times, it’s helpful to have someone there with you.

Stop praying for it for a while and just meditate on the scriptures about the holy spirit, and the promises of God about giving you the holy spirit, that will build your faith, it's easy to pray from knowledge than from faith, if you just meditate that will definitely birth faith before you start asking again

Wowww this just spoke my situation. I always felt that me not speaking in tongues as a believer was not enough. I know I believe in Christ which means the Holy Spirit lives in me but I need the baptism as scripture describes it ❤. I love that I am watching this as I am in my season of praying and fasting from food” in search of asking baptism of the Holy Spirit. Great stuff Amanda. And good to know it's not a one time thing also. Eph. 5:18 "Be being filled" or “be kept being filled with the Spirit” (present, passive, imperative). God does the filling (passive voice) but the Christian continually allows it to happen (present tense, imperative mood). Or keep yourselves filled up and that's an order!

Hey sis!! Ive grown up in baptist denomination where the teaching is that baptism of the Holy Spirit is received immediately upon salvation! They teach that the reason you see two separate occurrences in Acts is because during that time there were believers alive before Christs death, who would receive the spirit once He was sent down. But AFTER that it was never a separate occurrence again because that was no longer necessary! Recently I’ve been struggling with this because u see scriptural evidence for both sides! and the Holy Spirit has also been putting HEAVILY on my mind praying in the Spirit. (As i believe that is different than the gift of speaking in tongues that not everyone will have?) Im wondering where and if you see a flaw in these teachings and how you would clarify for me? I DO NOT want to miss out on what God has for His children, and if the baptism of the Holy Spirit is separate i want to know how to combat the baptist teaching to FULLY believe and ask for that with a faithful heart! I was baptized the moment I first believed. I didn't sleep for three days and three nights afterward because every time I closed my eyes to rest, any ambient light would pierce through my eyelids shining as bright as the sun, so I had to keep my eyes opened all that time. I should mention that I was fasting for this time as well. Finally, I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep more than anything. I put on some Native American drum music and bound my eyes shut with two handkerchief blindfolds and begged God to let me sleep. That did the trick for a few minutes. I slept for only a few, I think it was less than 5 minutes when I took the blindfolds off. It was definitely less than 10 minutes because I remember being so shocked about the time. When I woke up, I felt like I had slept for hours. As I woke up, the bright light was back only this time it formed a word in all caps. P A H A N A it spelled.

So i grew up with the Jehova witnesses ideology, but my mother (and i) arn't Jehova witnesses. I was taught a little bit about God when i was younger, but i never got to hear/understand why jesus died for us. Neither did my mother ever told me that i should end my prayers with "in Jesus name amen" only with amen. this year i started to dive into christianity more (since i promised God to be a christian when i was older) . I prayed to him, but at first i never said "in jesus name amen" since I didnt knew that. everytime i ended my prayers it didnt feel right. One day i read in the bible that i should end my prayers with "in jesus name" so that night i did that. When i did that for the first time it felt as if there was a HUGE fire floating over my bed. Everytime i closed my eyes i saw an angel so at first i thought it was an angel. (I saw some biblical accurate angels in one of those yt video's i saw that.) That fire was there for some time and eventually i creeped out and was running to my mothers room. The next few days it was still there, but it went away. A few weeks ago i found out that that fire was the holy spirit. I received him after i basically confesed that jesus is powerful! I doubted that I was truly saved because i didnt baptize yet. And some people received the holy spirit after they gor baptized. But this gave me conformation that i can receive him without getting baptize (I still want to do it tho 😅)

I was very much against the baptism of the Holy Spirit and use to argue with charismatics against it. Then after much study and prayer I finally came to the conclusion that I was wrong. I asked for the baptism of the Holy Spirit in my car and I was in there for 30 minutes as the Holy Spirit filled me and gave me tongues. I started to laugh and I felt a hot tingling all over my body. God is real, seek after it if you are saved!

Praying for you🙏 if you believe and have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life and also have repentented and so, are born again (new identity and so new desires in your heart for your life) you ARE saved! Don’t doubt it, I know I used to doubt it so much too and it would make me anxious and I would start to overthink it. Continue to pray, do a fast maybe, at least set a moment apart to just focus on your relationship with God and ask him discernement and confidence. Know that the devil may come and try to imitate God’s voice talking to your mind but it is very different from God’s voice. I’m sure you’ll have your answers :) keep persevering

um I’m not really a person who will write a comment but I just wanted someone to answer this question. So I understand that you found God when you were at your lowest and so many other people to but that’s not the case for me. My life is most definitely not perfect but I’m not sad about it and I’m happy at most days. But last I decided to try to become a Christian even tho I grew up Christian I never really knew God like that. So when I decided to become a Christian I knew nothing. I thought it was going to be easy but it wasn’t. I just kept coming in the world never really consistent with my relationship with God. Then watching people’s testimonies it always come down to one thing “I was at my lowest when God found me”. So for me I don’t have moments like that. So my question was to I really need to be at my lowest to encounter God?

Hey! I can actually shed some light on this - when we are saved, we are given the Holy Spirit to dwell in us - all that are saved receive the same gift of the Holy Spirit, it's our first "gift" or "installment" of sorts of the promises of God that we will receive in Heaven one day. When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we are RELEASING him, and this is evidence that we are communing with him and following him. So this dual process is first receiving him (although most do not realize that they have him and that they can go so much further in their intimacy with him), and when you develop intimacy with him, he is released and you are baptized in the Holy Spirit. Most get their gift of tongues that way. To be clear though, just because a person does not feel a physical manifestation of the baptism of the Holy Spirit does not mean that it didn't happen, and just because you may have the gift of tongues, doesn't necessarily mean you have or have released the Holy Spirit either, but it definitely is a frequent sign - these are all separate and circumstantial things. Another way to put it is at salvation, YOU receive the gift of HIM (the Holy Spirit), but when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, HE is getting more of YOU. Praying in your heavenly language is a beautiful thing, though! We can all have the gift of tongues, we just need to pray and ask the Lord to release that ability in us and have faith and just do it! 💕✝🕊

Great testimony ! There are only three instances in scripture to where we are told of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved. The first thing that happened in each case is that they spoke in tongues( Acts ch.2,10, and ch.19).

This is not true. Paul didn't speak in tongues when Ananias laid hands on him. And he later states in 1 Cor 14 that he speaks in tongues more than anyone else. That's probably because he was very well educated and spoke multiple KNOWN languages.

Speaking in " tongues" is speaking in one spiritual language that Paul calls the " unknown tongue" " that no man knoweth"( 1Cor.14:2). The only reason that it is pluralized in scripture is because more than one believer is speaking it at a times.

That is why the crowds enquiry was repeated three times in Acts ch.2 to alert us to that fact. The Word often has used repetition to direct our attention to an important spiritual truth. This is also an example of speaking in " tongues" being a sign to unbelievers, the men in the crowd.
