You right about the money thing for younger ppl. I’m from Jersey but grew up in ny and the fashion culture there comes before paying bills.I would see guys wearing $600 belts $1000 jeans but eating ramen and phone bill never paid which is just crazy. Yes I myself was sneaker crazy to but my phone bill and other things were always paid .Now that I’m older I’m way more financially responsible. Great topic king always speaking the real 🙌🏼

Over the past 2 years I have cut back extensively on what I deem necessary, and have even sold many items I never thought I would. You can only hold onto junk for so long. If it sits in my garage or home for over a year without me touching it, it has to go to eBay, FB marketplace, or the trash can. The only debt I hold now is my mortgage, and I am working my way at chipping towards that. Having zero debt and no junk holding me back is my American Dream.

I moved back to the city in Philly, purposely into a micro studio. I wanted to walk around everywhere downtown, so I didn’t need my car anymore, got really lucky with the rent for the location, so I’m thankful to save money in different ways. Being in a tiny, yet cozy micro studio is a great way for me to focus less on buying “stuff”, and it was the best decision I made for myself. For me, experience are how I like to spend my money, and I save up for these. I hear you on the overconsumption and definitely guilty, too.

You know those things that you learn when things sort of just dawn on you out of the blue? It happens, especially when you get a little older. Anyway, one of the most valuable lesson that I learned was to be able to tell the difference between what I really need, and what I just want to have. The difference between NEED and WANT has truly saved me so much grief!

He sounds just like my sister.. I don't make a lot of money but I am frugal.. I cook and I have sacrificed a lot to live with in my means.. People rely on Wants not needs.. Bills first always, groceries... Yes everything is expensive. I know I see it and I am the main one who buys the groceries..We are debt free no credit cards.. Mortgage and vehicle almost paid off.. have not dipped into retirement is growing still .. But I have a teen daughter who we taught the value of money. How to go far with what you have. .. she goes to a dual credit High school/ college class.. will graduate with an Associates degree and her High School diploma .. she will use her Dad's Hazelwood Act benefit of 150 hours of College.. I told her she can live here with us to finish her school .. People need to realize that money does not grow on trees. lol Love ya King Happy Thanksgiving

You are 100% correct! Us old geezers grew up in a much different time. First of all most everyone was in the sane financial boat. One parent that worked. 1 car, one TV, no fancy cooking machines. At Christmas we kids got one or two small items, we got a few new clothes and one pair of shoes at the beginning of school each year. We never did without but had almost nothing. I realize times have changed and people born in the 90's started thinking that you had to say yes to the kids wants. Keeping up with the Jones's became more important than building a savings account for emergency. You are so correct that the downfall of families having money was the loss of the word "no" from the vocabulary and social media. I'm not sure what it will take for people to come back to reality but you are 100% correct about the younger generations having no ability to save money!

You do make sense. I am a gen x kid, I have been struggling with money for years and lost my underpaying job of ten years due to hostile workplace in August. I have not been able to take a vacation certainly because I was struggling to keep a 20 year old vehicle on the road. No cell phone until one night i was stranded by the side of the road. Still my phone is the cheapest i can get. I am on unemployment, have enough to eat and pay my rent for now. But when I applied for a job I was expected to have a computer to take a typing test at home. The girl from hr was baffled that I don't have one. The amount of money other people spend on the things. Vacations. Expensive clothes, electronics is amazing to me. We did have one tv! Happy Thanksgiving and Holidays. Food looks great. ❤ Michelle from Omaha

I learned a long time ago ppl spend money on things they value & typically buy name brand items, not bcuz of the name but what it represents. Now imo groceries & gas is oc especially together. In the US we live in a consumer driven world, someone is always trying to sell you something. The less you consume , save & eliminate unnecessary debt the better you will be financially.

Totally agree, there is an affordability but what makes it worse is that there is spending/keeping up with the jones' problem too. The best way I've heard it put is that there is middle-upper middle class people that want to be rich but view themselves as poor (not everyone)
@NothingElseMatters77721 сағат бұрын
You're making 100% sense on the discussion about what people are spending money on these days - or to what extent they're spending money, I should say. It's almost like a sickness, TBH. I've been saving for years for a house, and can now pay cash for one. Just watching for the right one. But, I didn't spend wastefully over the years. I could have thrown money away on dumb things that I would have lost interest in after like 30 min. post-purchase. Instead, I've chosen to be wise with finances. I have a system in my head that I use. I'll spend on genuine needs and strong wants (strong wants within reason). I will not spend on things I don't need or want, and rarely spend money on things for which I don't have a strong want that are also not needs. And I do look for the best deal on items. I grew up in a lower middle class home, so learned the value of the dollar at an early age.

It's not just buying luxuries as if they were necessities. Too many people just don't know how to shop. They'll grab the 16oz item at the supermarket without looking at the 24oz one on sale that week for less $. They will buy Heinz ketchup even though their burger & fries will taste the same with Hunts or store brand at half the price. They don't use coupons because they don't have time for that but spend plenty of time on other apps. They buy milk at the convenience store for double the cost of milk at Aldi. There are lots of ways to save that can add up. Just $10 to $20 per week is $520 to $1040 for the year.

Those who most need to hear what Schratz is saying will be the first to say they work hard for their money and gots to enjoy themselves with it. People don't understand it doesn't have to be an Either/Or situation. It can be Both/And, in that they can both spend their money wisely and still enjoy themselves. It will actually be better because they can still do the same fun things but then have some savings for the inevitable emergencies that arise.

14:51, maybe if people didn't rush out to get a lot of these so called "necessary" consumer goods like "updated" phones and other material things, prices would just drop and people can feel and live their version of richer when their bank accounts are always in the positive. That whole supply and demand is real, but they like it when we see shiny things.
