Forgive me, but this is a long ramble! In this video, I discuss my thoughts on my dying channel and my deck collecting. I also show you what I’ve been up to in my creative crafting pursuits. You will also get a sewing/crafting room tour. I also ask all of you lovely viewers what you would like to see on this channel most as I contemplate a new direction.
For the first 28 minutes of this video, you can definitely just listen while you multi task as there is not much to see 😉.

Aww…thank you! I don’t know how it is viewed in other parts of the world, but when I looked it up, the data says that you enter the realm of senior citizen-hood at 55 and I’m going to be 56 next month. Most people think it’s actually 62 because that’s when you can start collecting on Social Security benefits or 65 because that is the “designated” retirement age. I’ve been getting solicitations from AARP for the last 2-3 years and I think this year I might actually join 😆. It’s only $16 a year and they have a lot of discounts that I’m eligible for 😉

Fifty is the new 40, appreciate that... You look great but please don't give up on colour. I am retired but my husband and I promised ourselves years ago that we would not become part of the "beige brigade." We live in Scotland and maybe it's not so obvious where you live but many of our generation just seem to fade to grey when it comes to fashion. By all means share your experiences with us. I love tarot, but I am not a collector; I am a quilter, but never progressed beyond beginner; I'm an avid reader but won't get off my butt... I love hearing what you've been up to and will be very disappointed if you disappear from the scene.

I don't know how other people see you, but to me, you are one of the least aggressive people on youtube, very calm and so it is a pleasure to listen and to watch your videos. NOT a senior citizen! I'm going to be 49 in a few months, my husband is 56. We are JUST starting our lives- we just moved across country to our dream location, we are starting to do the things we have dreamed about for 20+ years :) As far as this channel, I'd love to just follow your life, no matter what you are up to. I just like **YOU**- you feel like a lovely friend, and I like hearing from you as often or as little as you feel like. It's not about what you have to "offer" but what you feel like sharing, if that makes sense. Please don't feel like KZbin is a place where you need to have something to offer. And I SO related to your comments re older women- I'm NOT interested in cosmetic surgery, fillers, "get ready with me" videos with ten layers of foundation, dumb photo filters, weight loss tea, and/or "trendy" clothes from fast fashion companies (no offense to anyone, but they all look like torn cheap pantyhose stretched over women's bodies- ugh. WHY is this a trend?! I guess I'm from the era where the number one rule of fashion is to just buy a few pieces of well-made, stylish, classic clothing and wear the heck out of them!) I'd love a channel for women like me and living life in these years as we make the gentle transition from one stage to another.

But in reality, if you’re lucky, everyone is going to age. There are so many positives and I’m so glad I was born in the generation I was. Hi Bonnie, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this stage of life, as well as your reflections looking back on prior stages of your life. I'd enjoy "favorites" videos to see what you're up to and having fun with. For tarot content, I'd like to see more of your tarot journey, updates on how tarot is fitting into your life (or not), and of course ongoing content on how you're narrowing down your collection. I love "tarot in practice" type content (I think you did a video like that with the True Heart tarot), which doesn't require teaching, but maybe just sharing spreads or messages that were meaningful to you. We are planning on getting an iMac in the next couple of months because there are things that he would like to do with his digital music library and an iMac would make the video editing process so much easier! I don’t know, maybe I’m way off on this, but I get the feeling for many of us, as the world has opened back up we look at all the decks we’ve amassed over the lockdowns and have done a double take when we look at our collections 😆. It’s a kind of Carrie Bradshaw (Sex InThe City) moment when she realizes that with the amount she had spent on her designer shoes she could have bought and owned her apartment. As humans we like to collect things and what we collect changes as we change. For me personally, I’ve realized that I’ve got my tried and true decks that get heavy use and the others are just nice to bring in once in a while for variety. Since I posted this video, I’ve had a life update that has me wondering if I will have the time and energy for KZbin anymore. I want very much to experiment with other content, but at this point in my life, I don’t want to put too many things on my plate 😉

Yes 🙌! Education is a worthy thing to invest in and in the end brings more life satisfaction than an abundance of things that are not used regularly. We all have those sentimental items or pretty items in our homes that bring on the warm and fuzzy feelings, but for me, I’ve got to watch out for the ratio of those items and not bring too many in at this point.

The almighty algorithm is ruling us here. It has to be able to pigeonhole content so that it can push it out to those it thinks might be interested. But, as human beings it can be stifling because we are varied and complex. One day we may not want to create a video about our normal subject and want to do a video that’s totally I left field for our channel, but that always results in decreased analytics.

I feel a lot of viewers are searching for content that just keeps things real. The picture-perfect content, after a while, just becomes more of the same, and it's unrelatable and artificial. You have something valuable to offer, and I feel a lot of people could benefit from your perspective and experience. Old Soul Mermaid is YOU. If your audience is drawn to you for you, they'll stay, and more will come. Channels are kind of like time capsules - you can go back and witness the evolution of your content. I always feel that "you do you" is what matters, but I say keep the channel. It's part of your evolution. I started my channel with the "anything goes" approach, and I intend to keep it that way. My channel is still a baby, and the majority of my content is related to divination, but that could change tomorrow. Interestingly, a lot of the people who comment on my divination videos also comment on my other content. You might retain more of your audience than you might think. Just trust in your process for choosing what's correct for you.

I so wish I did, but the whole process scared me because I did t feel smart enough to try (hmmm…a topic for a future video perhaps 🤔?). The thought of un-niching my content is very freeing and I’m feeling some excitement about it! I am very into art channels, coloring videos do well. Textile art, however, does not do that well. It has always been unappreciated discipline. Anything that is related to painting does well, especially beginner projects. If you can zone out for coloring, then you can also do a voiceover of whatever you want, in addition to explaining your art process in the video. I don't think videos about aging gracefully do well, but documenting financial goals, wins, and failures towards retirement do really well. Even if you feel you are starting late, most millenials are also starting right now, so I think you will fit in perfectly. I recommend doing art videos and financial videos separate, as well as using this channel for all your future videos. Having this much reach when starting something is still a great start. I suppose the next question is, how intimate do you want your art and financial videos to be? Do you want to make it vlog style or more centered around the topic at hand? Especially with the coloring videos, you can talk about anything on voice over while the content is sped up. You can talk about your life (within reason), explain your thought process for color selection and what you are doing on the page, say a funny script, or a particular life experience that made you who you are. You can also do art paper reviews, marker reviews, coloring book reviews, paint reviews, watercolor pencils reviews, brush reviews, basically all your tools and how it relates to a beginner. Make sure to always put "beginner" on the title, those are the money makers! 😊

I’m ashamed to say that I e yet to explore all of the capabilities of my server 😔. I used it primarily for finishing. The model I have is a cinch to thread as it has the air technology for threading the upper and lower loopers!

I'd be SO excited about crafting content. I recently got gifted a sewing machine and I'm teaching myself how to sew as well. I'm honestly a little burnt out from tarot tube being so collecting-centric. I get it, it's fun and exciting to buy new things and that can be very inspiring to some but for me it kind of drained the inspiration out of it. Ironically, since I stopped watching as much tarotube and has started watching more sewing videos I've been more inclined to actually use my decks. I'm turning 30 this year so I've been doing a lot of internal work about the concept of ageing in general, I'd love more content on this topic as well. And if there's a little tarot content here and there (more about using tarot than buying new decks) as a treat that would be lovely. That's just my perspective though! 💗

Commenting as I watch: janome and juki machines have my heart!! my machine is a janome and I have my eye on that janome serger as well. I think it's a little advanced for me right now but eventually I'll get there. Industrial jukis are the dream, I love their sound it's so relaxing 🙈

Yes! I want to do much more varied content going forward. It won’t be great for the algorithm, but if everyone who is interested would hit the notification bell, the content should reach regular viewers. That said, my next video is probably going to be an unboxing 😆. I shot a video a couple of weeks ago of a deck I backed on Kickstarter almost a year ago and it is a beautiful deck.

i also have a sewing machine it's an old german retro 70s machine it's so nice but i've never used it because now i don't know how to use it, maybe you can make a video how to make a tarot bag and how to use the sewing machine, just the basics.

It’s not intentional. Not long after I posted this video, I got a job offer and have started working again. I’ve been wanting to do some videos, but haven’t been able to find the time. Honestly, I have to learn how to manage my time 😉. I think about my channel all the time. I don’t have a lot of time for editing and I don’t know if anyone would have the patience for a video that’s not aesthetically pleasing anymore. If I decide to quit once and for all, I would officially let you know. Thanks for checking in 🥰
