Great video! I really enjoyed hearing about the swim and bike race dynamics. It feels like your mental space is good - i get a sense of happiness, enjoyment, a certain lightness etc which is great to see. I bet that mental place helps you think more clearly about what you need, to train harder, race faster etc. I agree with you that it seems especially in your bike/run you're SOO close to putting it together. Some slight improvements that allow you to react to race dynamics and i bet your times drop very quickly. And suddenly you'll be in the mix! Looking forward to next season!

Great to follow your journey. Don’t forget to include the healthy fats (omega 3 analysis). I don’t understand why people not checking their fat panel. It’s really important for health and we should compete when we are in our 70ies :)

Great work and superb race Matti, I can see that you are motivated and especially KNOW what to work on grinding-wise next. So 5w/kg in hills it is, sounds brutal! Watching this after last tri-race of the season, IM 70.3 Tallinn, which was a disaster Bcause of the heat.😬Let's have a bike or run in Espoo at some point, keep up the great work!

Its been great to watch your videos, really motivating. Keep up the good work! I have just started my own triathlon journey as a ”yli nelikymppisenä🇫🇮”, and working towards the half distance in the future.

Definitely curious on the work you will do with your body composition. It may make a BIG change in your performance. As for the race, well done, your spirit is admirable. Go go go ! And enjoy your rest now.

Nice Matti! 44kph at 180-200 watts in the pack is crazy!! Can’t believe there’s that much drafting going on, but guess you gotta play the game

Thanks, brilliant race rapport, - of cause looking forward to when its about how you did get that no.1 spot. - But in the meantime the things you share, both tech, the practicals; "fitness, form, "muscle strength" / power on the bike & dynamics - waht and how about riding the groups etc. + the break down of what the fitt part is made up of/ balance and all - really good insights - 🙂 and also how you user your self as example, makes the stuff much more relatable - Super thanks! 🙂 Henrik

Long time lurker here, looking for some advice.. I did my first Ironman (Austria) and did a 4:59 bike split in the pouring rain at 270W normalized. Bike is a mid range 2nd hand canyon (rim brakes but no di2, S type aero bars not ski type, but with a disc wheel cover). I'm a heavier/taller guy at 197cm and raced at 89-90kg, but i have a rower's body having done it at university and recreationally whilst working - i'm 34 now. I'm looking to take my time down to 4:30 as part of a goal to drop to sub 9 hours. Do you know much the climbing meters of Austria make a difference vs Frankfurt, and how much the aero component of your more dialled in setup might make? Do you have any advice or tips on how to get there otherwise? I've been training for about 12 months specifically for triathlon and am also looking to take 25 mins off my swim/run which I know there is mostly just a matter of musculo-skeletal endurance especially for the run. Otherwise big fan of the channel and love the openness and enthusiasm you have for the sport and for your journey!

@@Dozdaman Thanks for the kind words. Yea so aerodynamics are as you know huge and also for me still a big part to evolve in, getting the right cockpit plus helmet combo is a lot of it next to suit and rest. If you want to do well on rolling hills courses such as Austria which will make it naturally extra hard for you to ride 4:30 but its possible of course. You need to ride the hills at threshold minimum and then keep rest aero and high speed. The slower you go in general the more power output, if you got 65kph you can freewheel for ex. If you are after a fast time and want to get there quicker picking courses like Florida etc. will make it easy for you to hit even sub 4:30 I'm sure. Enjoy the journey and get a good coach who can guide you consistent and progressive 🙏
