I just want to go ahead and say I too got caught up in the "no oils, no butters" world and got a consultation from a stylist that follows these ladies and I will say my hair was sooo dry that my regular stylist (doesn't follow these trends) was like "what are you doing to your hair?" because my hair was dry. Narada is the perfect middle ground because he educates you on proper hair health but also doesn't act like he's the be all end all. His tips have been helpful, he's not recommending extremely expensive products
@tyshennaphillips57

I honestly think the dryness is from the gels. Gels have ingredients in them that can have a drying effect on the hair. The hooded dryers are only helping to speed up that drying process as well. I definitely think adding leave ins and deep conditioners back into their regimen would help some folks out. I know it’s a case by case basis but yeah.
@keishalebray1996
@keishalebray1996 9 ай бұрын
It’s cazy how they really thought that would work tho. All gels are drying in nature especially the ones with next to no oils. Weren’t they the ones who started the no oils no butters trend? If you are stripping the hair completely of oils, the hair has no barrier to prevent dryness. That’s why some people out here convinced oils are moisturizing. Oils and butters and such can be instrumental but only when used correctly and I don’t think they were doing that, or if they were, they were not cleansing properly. They always wanna do the scalp but not the hair legs 🦵 😂

@800mEric 9 ай бұрын
Not only that, but if you’re following their recommendations of shampoo, then that too needs to change. They should really be using either a moisturizing, hydrating, or very creamy shampoo and only use their clarifiers as a once a month or ever so often treatment.

My trichologists: no to dryers, no to styling products and no to wash and goes. Yes to weekly deep conditioners and daily leave in condtioners and detangers. No to brushes. yes to protective styles with most of your ends wrapped away like french braids and flat twists and twists. my trichologists also do not recommend raw oils and butter but they can be in the products. So I think the lack of leave-ins, deep conditioners and protective styles was a triple whammy that took their hair out.

@@marleyhill34 i think that may work for someone with scalp issues but i deep condition with a hooded dryer and seal my hair with hair growth oils after applying my leave in. It helps my hair stay moisturized longer. I also tried just finger detangling for 6 months and noticed not all the shed hair was coming out and my hair strands weren’t as smooth so my twists and braids would always have extra frizz. Keeping my hair curly for so long also contributed to friction damage as well.
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 9 ай бұрын
@@keishalebray1996 I don't follow everything my trichologists say. I deep condition with a steam cap. I seal my ends in winter only with a silicone, oil or grease to reduce friction. I moisturise my hair every day so I don't worry about keeping moisture in for days. I detangle with seamless combs every week and my tangle teezer for fine and fragile hair once a month. I don't have friction damage because my hair is always moisturized and detangled every week. Everyone has different techniques that work best for them and their lifestyle. I work out a lot and swim so sweat and chlorine has to be removed from my hair even if it's just a co-wash and a rinse-out conditioner. What my trichologists say is best practice for the healthiest hair but not everyones lifestyle fits with this.

I love the AG shampoo and Innersense Hairbath. Even though they’re expensive, they last a long time. I think because they are very concentrated, you don’t need as much. I don’t need a rinse out conditioner because I prefer to deep condition using heat. I still for the most part, follow BGC method but I deep condition and trim on blown out hair. I don’t use a leave-in for my wash’n go’s because it makes my hair too soft and the set won’t last past 4 days. I just have not experienced the bad things people are saying about their method. But perhaps because I tweaked it, idk

I use AG Balance as well and when I was using it weekly, my hair was dry. I told my stylist this and she told me that since I primarily use easy to clean off the hair type of styling products, I'd be better off using a moisturizing shampoo and using ag balance maybe every 2 weeks or more. She and the rest of the stylists at the salon I go to have received various trainings from Cut it Kinky. So I think the real danger is the all or nothing attitude that many consumers have to the BGC info. Because even in their book they say your experience will vary and to be mindful what practices you adopt. Their biggest and main request has really just been to properly wash and condition your hair. They also suggest leave in products if your hair needs it. I don't know why their social media tactics vary so greatly (are more demanding and condescending) from their book which I feel was a very vital and genuine resource for me.

I followed BGCs method at first and my hair just did not thrive the way I wanted and lord it didn’t grow either. BGC’s method is not a one size fits all method. She is very much a mean girl about it too. She shames other methods outside of hers and her hair always look crunchy and dry as hell. I just went back to basics and my hair is growing, moisturized, and thriving.

You are spot on governor! I go to my hair stylist when I want a specific technique or style (or just want to be pampered); I know she will work those products (no matter what she is using at the moment) until the desired effect is achieved. At home I use the same, very few, staple products that are tried and true for my hair. I live in a 4 season city, I am menopausal and graying (and fierce, by the way!) and my staple products rotate based on that. I try to stay true to my pigtail days of hair management and that method has not failed me yet. I enjoy your channel! You remind me to pay attention to what my hair needs, and work that magic, and stop wishing for everyone else's magic. It's fun and pretty to look at but it ain't necessarily me. Preach on sir.

Like I use oils on my ends and scalp and yea I’ll use aphogee provitamin leave in and rarely cream leavins but I deep condition every week and use aphogee 2 min recon every other week to keep my protein moisture balance and my hair is starting to flourish more than my first year of hair growth.

My curly cut stylist reccomended me only using AG naturals every three or four washes now that my hair is hydrated and based on my essential elements. I tried to replace my hydrating hairbath(weekly shampoo) with alternatives but I couldnt find one that worked the same so sticking to it for now. And yes I would only use the clarity hairbath whenever I wanted to gently clarify in between my chelating washes. This was a very good breakdown of the shampoos.

I was hoping you’d review all the BGC shampoo’s and give us your thoughts. 🙏🏽 I still feel silly to know that I was basically using a “clarifying” shampoo 1-2 times per week to cleanse my hair. Then not replenishing my hairs needs with a deep conditioner AND…then following the advice to not use a leave in underneath my wng to boot. 👀🫣 Next, I used those hard held & gels they recommended that left my hair stiff and crunchy! Not to mention, I set them with the hot hooded dryer for no less than 30 minutes at a time! That was also recommended. 😣 Chile, ALL of that left my hair in the gutter! Add in some curly cuts that didn’t address all my split ends and my hair looked like rats had been sucking on it and nibbling through it! 😝 I have since had to cut numerous inches off and basically start over!😅 My hair is now on a serious road to recovery and starting to thrive once again! 🙌🏽 End of story……LISTEN TO YOUR HAIR‼️ If it don’t feel right, it ain’t right! I make my own hair gel. My hair is bra strap length. I think the problem could be the curly cuts, going longer than 10 days without cleaning hydrating the hair, and the avoidance of using a little oil.

Entertaining and informative as always! Never did the BCG curls method ever but always found them to be very "elitist" as you said. It seems whenever people desire to profit off the potential insecurities of their target market they evolve a "cult" like mentality. A cleanser is a cleanser. It doesn't work differently on different hair types. It more often that different hair type havers are seeking different things. Straight hair havers want volume hence they often strip their hair so it'll look "bigger". Those with curlier hair don't and so our products are quite average in their purpose. A cleanser that cleanses and a conditioner that conditions. Its just we aren't obsessed with removing any oil or weight from our hair during the process. That doesn't equate to our hair being "damaged" as these companies like to insinuate. Recently purchased the garnier whole blends lines, even though i strictly use tresemme, out of curiosity. I picked up one for "damaged" hair as i knew it wouldn't be stripping and it was quite nice. But why did they have to sell a non-drying product as an item for "damaged" hair? Thanks for pointing out these odd hair care selling points.

Climate is a biggie. Between Chicago and Texas, I can’t take care of my hair the same way. In Texas I have to layer a leave-in and a cream on wet hair before my styler to help save that moisture or just wash it more often. Texas is crispy dry (or it is where I live). Chicago on the other hand, I love using glycerin products because my hair just sucks up all that humidity-it’s the perfect environment for natural hair (in it’s natural state). You feel like you just got out the pool when all you did was walk 5 minutes to your car 😅. I miss humid climates so much 🥲…

@@Mon3199_ But if you happen to be from Houston or something, I still stand by my statement. The humidity is mild compared to Chicago because of the temperature difference. Chicago sits on a huge lake and it barely gets above 80 in the summer. Believe it or not, most of Houston’s humidity evaporates in the 100+ ° heat. So yes, Texas is still dry as a whole to me. Corpus Christi is the only part of Texas that comes to Chicago humidity in my humble opinion.

I've been using Hydrating Cream Hairbath to cleanse, AG Boost + Color Raidance Conditioner to condition, and a leave in + foam for my protective style, and I must say my scalp has never been cleaner. Flakes gone. So in that way, I'm grateful for discovering these products. However, all of the tight curl stylists sing the praises of the felicia leatherwood brush, and that thing was ripping my hair out! I lost almost half of my density over the last 5 months using that brush. As a girl with fine, high density "4c" hair, it's a NO from me! I have since switched to the Kazmaleje paddle comb and am seeing less breakage.

I do really like the ag ACV shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo i use like every 2-3 weeks, but the conditioner is surprisingly super moisturizing. The hydrating cream cleanser is cool but i feel like i could find something better. The innersense conditioner used to be way better but i feel like they reformulated it or something, its not as good as it used to be. I just ordered some other AG shampoo and conditioner to try, i hope i like it as much as the ACV line or more! They do be pricey though 😅

For these shampoos, you just need 1 pump and one 1 wash of each type. I buy the 32 oz and it lasts a whole year. 32 oz cost like $69 to $78 bucks, but when I used drug store shampoos like TGIN they only lasted me one month and I spent $10 to $15 a month. At the end of the day the salon quality ones were definitely more cost effective for me. I use the all-purpose ones like 1 to 2x a month. The hydrating ones weekly, and a clarifying one like 1x a month.

sorry let me correct myself. the ag balance the 12 oz lasted 18 months ($34). the hydrating hair bath, I get the 32 oz ($70) and it last a year. I get the come clean by kinky curly 8 oz ($12.50) and it lasted 2 years. That comes out to $100 on shampoo for the year. I don't think that's bad. It's less than $10 a month.

@@cassandredavilmar7960 I agree with the products being cost effective. I purchased the hair bath and hydrating cream conditioner along with the I create hold 32oz bottles. They have lasted a year for me as well!!!! My hair loves it!! I pair the I create hold with uncle funky curly magic. I have a routine when I shampoo and condition and follow up with the gels. I will wear the wash n go for 6 days. Then I will co wash…just hop in the shower and wet my hair add use suave coconut conditioner to soften and define my pattern. Let is sit in my hair while I shower. Then once I rinse out each section, I apply the curly magic. Then once out the shower, I add the I create hold. I don’t have to worry about detangling my hair cause my hair never got dried out to the point where it begins to knot up.. I only detangle on the day I shampoo my hair. I have type 4 hair and I tested out the Anthony Dickey method and it’s been working. I don’t wet my hair everyday as he recommends but what I’ve done is working. My curls are not crunchy like they use to be with eco styler gels. I don’t have to worry about mixing gels and conditioners to see if they mesh well. I got so tired of that. lol. The hydrating cream hair bath is way better than the other two shampoos for dry type 3 and type 4 hair. The Curl mix step three moisturiser has oils in the first five ingredients which is what BGC was telling everyone to avoid. 😅😅😅 The curl mix condtioner they said can also be used as a deep condtioner...so it might be a case of these products just being more moisturising in general. What about the AG curl fresh line? I used the AG boost a handful of times and have found it was strong so I switched to the curl fresh shampoo as my first shampoo, then innersence hydrating hair bath as my second wash, and the curl fresh conditioner, which they do not recommend but they're not against. I've found that the curl fresh shampoo is not as stripping (doesn't smell as good though) and the conditioner is way more moisturizing that the AG balance. I have also moved my wash day to once a week (because I work out, and my hair is always in its natural state so I know environmental pollutants, dust, sweat, etc. Need to be washed out AT LEAST on a weekly basis) I've also found that washing your hair often helps with your skin, texture, acne etc. I do agree that they use some pretty stripping products but I haven't had issues with my hair since switching over to no butters, though I am keeping my ears to the streets just in case something goes left (like serious long term hair loss)

That AG tore my hair up! At first I thought it was working well because my hair looked so shiny. Then my hair became so parched. I was using it once a week, sometimes twice. I went back to using oils on my ends, products with lots of oil in it, and Qhemet Biologics has a pomade I love on my scalp. Hair is lush, hair is happy. I never understood the no oils mess but tried it cause on the surface "it makes sense"- they said oil prevents moisture. Then is stops when you think about it for more than one second. You still need to seal and condition your hair, and the water in the products they advocate for will evaporate. The mousse and gel they love will have your hair dried out if you use it consistently. I'm not a professional like you but your methods are better for hair IMO compared to theirs. If I moisturize my skin out of the shower why wouldn't I moisturize my hair with an oil product?
