For Notion lists, the spacing is a lot more readable if all the bullet points are in the same block. Shift+Enter creates new bullet points within the same block. You do sacrifice the ability to easily drag and reposition bullet points that are each within their own block, though.

Oh my goodness I didn’t know about Typora and Joplin linked together.

Sometimes I use ghostwriter. Sometimes Atom as my external editor. 90% of the time, I just stay in their editor though.

More specifically, Joplin can use any editor you want (has to be callable from the command line).

Joplin's plugins include a graph view and back links now, but not quite as nice as obsidian. Not that I see much value in graph view (or back links for that matter). I have many hundreds of notes and documents. Graph view, unless it has rich ability to prune, is just not valuable. I like Obsidian. But I still do most of my work in Joplin. Short notes to webpages to book development, Joplin is just more flexible. Obsidian is great for associatively-linked notes (but which is almost as easy to implement in Joplin). I'm using Obsidian for that purpose today. In five years, I suspect I will be using something else, but for my Joplin workflow ... I suspect in five years I'll still be using Joplin. :)

Year 2022, there is any update to that "graph view" in Joplin? or Obsidian is better yet?
@stools44372 жыл бұрын
If you look at certain people's obsidian notetaking frameworks that are centered around the graph view and back-linking then you can't really say that those features aren't useful. For instance a lot of people use obsidian as it's the best digital implementation of the zettelkasten framework to create a second brain/personal knowledge base. If you look at note-taking like a researcher who wants to link all of your knowledge together and see a holistic view of all your notes and maps of content (MOCs), Obsidian is great for that.

I think you are on point with your criticisms of Notion. It seems overly fluffy. So far, I like One Note best but am using Joplin on Linux. I keep my One Note offline. I do find Joplin a bit slow, though, and wonder if the issue is Flatpak.

I enjoy Notion a lot but it's not the best for note taking. It's amazing for all the other functions though.

I really liked your series of videos about note-taking. Sometimes I need to break down complicated code base into diagrams. Or manually make a graphical representation of different notes I took earlier. (also make each node into a link to my earlier notes) I'm wondering if you had experience or suggestion in that regard. thx!

I have a website I host with CPANEL and Phpmyadmin - is there somewhere here I could also host Joplin securely for my own background syncing and notes use?

@13:41 I'm curious. Is there some specific keyboard shortcut used to jump out of the auto-pairing, or was the arrow keys used? This has been a peeve with me for a while, I like to be able to keep my fingers on the homekey and jumping off constantly to get out of the various brackets and ticks by breaking my flow and poking at the right-arrow key feels like this auto-pair feature is just not quite as complete as it should be. I'm hoping this is the product of something I've simply overlooked and dont know about but exists?

i dont really see why you had to spend half the video complaining about emojis and colors when that is like not at all relevant to the usefulness of the apps or about Joplin

UX is decent, icons and templates can distract us with organisation if we are not focused on creating content.
