I am still on Reason 8, so will upgrade. However, I find this updates very disappointing part from the zoom. It is like Reason have just given up on thinking about the functionality. It is the sequencer that needs some serious functionality upgrade, but it doesn’t seem like they are interested in that.

Quick question, are you having trouble loading scaler 2 into reason 12? It opens in reason 11, but when I try and open it in 12 it does not respond and if I try and close the vst it crashes the whole reason 12 program.

I see plenty of new Reason users who just want to compose or get their ideas out without getting into the time and detail of sound design. But one thing for sure Reason Studios do need to listen to the concerns of its user base and give them what they are asking for.

I am thinking to do the sane thing. Reason user for 12 years because of my hardware back ground. I hate the ssl mixer in reason. I am interested in using reaper for its mixer arranger and audio tracks. I use renoise and reason 11 rack which is great but sometimes I don't want to compose in a tracker so I'm thinking reaper will be great :)

I keep most of it closed up but overall the SSL and Rack concept as well as the simplicity of flow which I find is the opposite of Reaper, Studio One, Cakewalk etc. Just having the EQ built-in and not needing to install one is a win for me. That it is a great Mix EQ is better. The visibility of what is in the Rack is the other. I find that PT style grid of names is not the same. I think we need to wait for the real additions in R12 in new Combi and new Sampler - maybe some more goodies too before making any decisions.

@@BenedictRoffMarsh yes waiting for 12 is what I am doing. I like to do a lot with breakbeats and I am hopeing that the new sampler is offering more interesting ways to chop and manipulate samples. So far all the childish aesthetic improvements will just be a waist on cpu in my eyes . I should imagen with little changes like fans spinning and clarity on screws and bolts will effect usage of already heavy cpu synths like respire.

I think I will pass on the Reason+ experience. I have not used Reason in a year plus. Just been more into Cubase and Logic Pro for the most part. I love Reason but I have not really seen anything added lately to pull me back into it for now. I have hundreds of tracks I have created in Reason so I will still be a Reason fan for life :)

@@Macho_Beats I REALLY like Reason and have been using it since Reason 1.0 but I just seem to go to Cubase as my main DAW. I love Logic Pro too. I think I just see more folks using Cubase and Logic so if I have a question or problem I can get some help right away usually. I really don't want a new monthly bill especially since I am I not making any money with my music yet so I think Reason+ is a pass for me. Sill will upgrade to Reason 12 because I want to support Propellerhead.

I think the payment model for paying for presets makes sense, it just should be much cheaper. There should be levels or tiers to the subscription. 7.99 Just Reason Presets 13.99 Reason Presets and Rack Extensions 19.99 Reason 12 plugin and standalone, presets and rack extensions. We’ll see what happens.

I took a chance on the half price discount on Reason + for a year, of course, you can always go back to your old licence at the end... what I do like is this , on Windows, i use spacedesk - i'm hooked on touchscreens for mixing console etc, knob tweaking - this high DPI allows that a bit more easily...

more than anything, I'm using more as a Rack plugin in other DAWS, but the high DPI does encourage me to look at using Reason as a DAW again... compared to before, eg 2 years ago, there's been way more innovation. A lot of features that Reason had for a long time like pitch detection etc get a bit overlooked. I was able to get Rack Extension versions of popular vst's eg Synapse The Legend at a much lower price... so it's handy in that regard...

Thing is, I love the Reason software. I LOVE the appearance and the rack paradigm, it just makes things more fun. The instruments and stock sounds are awesome. It does everything I need and the "workflow" issues people complain about so much are just nice-to-haves that nobody actually needs but they get fomo looking at other daws. That being said I was truly embarassed for Reason Studios once I realized how shitty their R12 upgrade was. It's pathetic. And their zooming functionality isn't even well implemented like WTF. So much aliasing and the rendering is so slow on my beast gaming laptop. The improvements people want in The sequencer are not that crazy they should just LISTEN TO THEIR USERS AND IMPLEMENT THEM. Loving Reason as much as I do means I have a stake in seeing it's community grow and thrive. Right now the main thing turning me off from reason is how deaf they are to their users and how the community seems to be ready to ditch Reason Land. Get your shit together guys.

Thanks for the video. I'd like to add something most people won't know until they do the deed but in R12 you lose the ability to opt-out of sharing usage data and such with Reason Studios. If that's important to you you may want to think about things.

What's up Reason users my problem with Reason is that I use to buy a ton of VST, effect etc from them before any update or upgrade was available and when there were I was not prorated any discount for what I own. Therefore I ended up buying all the gear I had over again just to get an update or upgrade. Like so many of the comments here just give us stuff we can use and do better business to keep your clientele coming back

yes - they are doling out updates to R+ subscribers as available and if you are a standalone upgrader you will get them all it once sometime in September. As far as trolling, they've already trolled Reason users in that the announced a subscription service that no one asked for.

It's always weird though how their DAW is so neglected after 20 years though. Ableton is about a similar age, was just as half-featured program at the beginning, but just seem to produce just much bigger upgrades. Maybe they are a larger company. Reaper, Studio One, and Bitwig are much younger DAWS and all seemed to surpassed Reason with their DAW features. But I guess it is focus. Reason seems to focus on synths, effects over sequencer, where most other DAWS don't focus nearly as much on that (although Logic, Ableton, FL put good emphasis on synths).

I understand they have to make money, and they should have reduced a lot of costly things suck as boxed products and the like, but where has their dedication gone ? Either that, or, as I read on another comment, the legacy code is too hard to maintain or update, I don't know. What frightens me more and more is the huge amount of alarming comments - from long-time users as well as "younger" ones - all saying the same thing or almost the same : "I'll skip this upgrade", "I'll stick to my current version and I won't upgrade anymore", "I'll switch to another DAW"... I still don't understand how the Props can ignore all these voices.

@@Calazzus Studio One sequencer works very similar to Reason. I think it is probably one of the best transitional DAW for Reason users looking for more workflow. I think if Reason really focused on improving their DAW, it would be something like Studio One. That said Studio One's synths are pretty vanilla compared to Reason. Ive been a Reason user since 2003. It always kind of had a neglected sequencer. But it did integrate well with it's great built-in instruments, was a great sketchpad sequencer, stable and low CPU use. Compared to other DAWS, Reason always seemed to make improvements at a snail's pace but their small improvements in the 2000s where very innovative at the time. I think they somewhat lost focus with Record. They had some good audio innovations but I don't think they develop fast enough for the DAW market, so their DAW always seemed behind other DAWS, even cheap/free ones. If they made it a VST and never went audio like 10 years ago, that would have been a smarter move. There is no telling how much more developed the Rack would be with synths, effects and what not.

@@jsmacks11 I weaned myself off of reason instrument devices many years ago when I needed another DAW to write film score, video games, trailer music because I needed vst support. So I invested heavily in VSTs. Also in my experience and opinion VSTs had better sounds than Reason instruments. My thinking was when reason decided to include VST's, I would be able to use my instruments in any DAW. I use 1 hit WAVs for drums. I have the basics down in Studio One 5, just not all the things that make for a quick workflow like shortcuts and how to get to all of the features in one step versus three steps.

From a business survival tactic and ensuring longevity, the rack vst idea is a smart decision by Reason Studios. The DAW space is crowded, and DAW advancement is no longer exponential- it is miniscule. Reason was the least popular topic on KZbin up until the rack released. Now they are gaining subs like mad, so hopefully more cash means sequencer updates are on the way.

So I hope they add a feature to turn off the high end graphics cause I paid 128 bucks to slow my daw down. When I drag in an instrument it takes like 3 seconds to load it sometimes more. Also I have like a 2 second day when I just flip the rack. All I really even wanted from This update was mimic. I wish I could go back to 11 and have mimic. What a rip.

Graphics is a "boring" but needed update, but at the same time, I think hardcore Reason fans wants to see RS hitting back at other DAW companies. Ableton comes out with a new version and it is hard to count the number of features. Most of Reasons updates, the features usually are under 10 with most of them being very small stuff most other programs do with an update.

Let me also add, I've purchased every Reason update since v6.5, as well as the Suite. It is highly... to the highest height... unlikely I will "upgrade" from R11. They should be embarrassed. EDIT:And, I hear they are raising the price to this "upgrade"...😳🤨🙄😑🤦🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

Cannot use Roland Zenology within Reason as it does not support VST3 Reason is a joke now. Pushing their sub model and offering the new versions to the last in, and abandoning their hardcore purchase user base. The best Reason upgrade I ever made was to Ableton 11. This however is a great channel. Loving the videos. And the honest reviews. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I made the jump to Presonus 'studio One' and have invested in real outboard gear including synths, drum machines and effects units, all on the cheap from ebay ! I haven't looked back since, and to be honest, after using Studio One.......Reason is like a big kids toy, abit like a remote control helicopter that flies....... but it just isnt a real helicopter than can reach much higher !! oh and by the way, Studio One has MPE functionality :)

I'm a Reason user for 3 years now, Reason 10 was a really good upgrade from R5, now I have R12 and I'm not really satisfied with it except when it comes to beat map and Mimic... Graphics are worse than in R10 and I hope they will work on it in future updates. Graphics were okay till R12 If you had a decent LCD monitor/TV. Zoom feature is quite unnecessary and hopefully something will get better when it comes to sequencer workflow. I'm a big fan of reason rack and even tho it comes as a VST, I don't want to use other DAWs even tho I worked on some remixes in Studio One when I previously had R5. (I Kinda hate ableton because of its UI and will never switch on it )

The graphics update has been a genuine improvement for me and I am very glad they've done it. It makes running Reason at a resolution of 1920x2160 with 75% OS scaling actually useable, and has meant I can now make music later into the night without eye strain.

Don't get distracted by shiny objects so easily. The graphics were NECESSARY, the 1980s are asking for ALL BITMAPPED GRAPHICS to be returned so that ALL MODERN APPS USE ONLY VECTOR GRAPHICS. The fan was some graphics guy playing for 5 minutes. The BIG work was figuring out how to make EVERYTHING hi res to work in 4K. If you haven't figured out that a 40-42" 4K TV is the BEST THING to run your DAW on, you're just playing around.

If you need more than Reason 10/11 to make hit records you must not be too good at what you do. Reason 10 is all I need to do what I need to do. I might upgrade, but it won't be until like version 14/15.

Shame about Reason. Been with them since 3 and now on 11 Suite. They need to sort out the sequencer, add VST 3, and improve audio clip editing ( Stretch/pitch is trash and no auto de-click) Ableton gang here we go :(

I'm bout to fully move on from reason 11. I'm sick of them! I barely use it anymore except for sound design and mixing(w Nektar P1). I'm already on to MPC Live 2 Retro Edition. Plus, the MPC software has kinda grown on me. I'm also bout to cop FL Studio..since that is where I started...plus LIFETIME FREE updates. IDK.

@@chocomalk Go to Reason Studios last video and go through the comments. Stefan - Reason Studios program manager has confirmed these features will not be in Reason 12. Now on midi routing other DAWs has been doing this for the last 10 years. For example I want the notes out of Scaler going to Pigments. When I play Pigments it also plays Scaler too. The midi notes from Scaler are now being played in Pigments. You can’t do this in Reason unless you have blue cats patchwork. Even with blue cats all the midi notes doesn’t show up. Only one midi note show so you’re not able to make changes note changes. We been asking for this feature for years.

I love Reason as a plugin inside Ableton. Probably the best value VST money can buy. That said, as a Reason user since 2.5, the workflow within reason itself is mind-bogglingly overcomplcated and making fine adjustments is too time consuming.

Bang on the money. Though the rack vst has its own problems, mostly which concern the browser. Nothing about it is resizable, except for the metadata columns. Said columns can't be reordered. It's just silly when you have Hi res and zoom now, but lack those finer controls to squeeze the most out of what screen space you have to work with.

I switched to ableton because of this sad sad excuse of an update. I've been waiting for track and mix folders for years. And Ableton had that the whole time. Also, reason has major DSP issues and I can't even finish my tracks.
