Totally with you on modding man... at the end of the day, if you're into cars and into driving cars you buy them to drive them and they should be enjoyed! It's funny you say that as I was thinking last night, if I slammed it to the ground on some bit gary wheels and straight piped it, I could probably grow my channel quite easily. "IS THIS THE LOUDEST!? E46 M3?!" etc. I'll never do that though. Even if my channel sits at 26k subs forever, at least most of those people are like-minded enthusiasts and I don't have to pretend to be something I'm not. :)

With the brakes, its pads and fluid for sure mate. Mine was the same - decent bite on the first stop then spongy unresponsive feel as soon as they had any heat in them. I went for Castrol fuids, OEM disks and some cheap Remsa 650* pads (I'm tight) - It completely transformed the braking feel, stopped sharper and had no fade after 4 laps of Collie. Cracking video Danny, summed up the M3 perfectly. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Hey Dan. I agree with all you said except for the suspension and wheels. A lot of people say that those 19 inch wheels are too big and aren't as good as the stock 18s (Chris Harris). I guess it may be because of the extra flex and too small profile tyre. So I would try to put my hands on ones. The suspension, is essential for you to feel the same as you do with the e36. I speak for experience. The steering is highly affected by having the stock suspension on the front. And it shouldn't be that expensive to change.
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 19s are gash mate. I'm trying to get a set of the stock 18s for it.

Congrats on getting your dream car! Modify it to the way you want it no problem! You say it well, you mention the modifications you wont be doing but you don't bag them out, you just point out they aren't for you. If everyone was this accepting the car scene would be even better. Though I think it is a crying shame to see a car modded to the point the performance is ruined, each to their own. As long as they don't mind that I tweak my E46 M3 to my liking while keeping it as stock as possible, then we are going to get along great
@Niracka17 жыл бұрын
Good video! I've been saying exactly the same regarding the brakes, steering, HK and the gearing! Really looking forward to seeing the 4.1 as I'm planning one on mine too. I've got eibach springs on mine and it made the drive alot better with a very slight drop and not crashy.

Spot on mate, cars are made to be driven, we all like to look back at our cars as we walk away and then "awesome" but I'm in the same mind set, if I can't go out and have a good drive it's pointless. I agree with all the points you have made to be honest, the dc2 recaros are a pretty good standard seat but even they don't hold you brilliantly, when I fitted a bucket seat in my old skyline it transferred the car, it felt so much more planted into corners as ibwasnt been thrown about and gave me more confidence to push it more. I would also look into new bushes too as already mentioned as well as the mods your planning as 15 year old rubber will definitely be compromised
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
Yeah the bucket seats make a massive difference. Even with the stock seatbelt you feel much more connected to the car!

I absolutely love that mellow intro, Danny.💙 I don't cuss much in the comments and mean no disrespect to anyone, but that intro is Fucking Epic, sir!🙌👍 Yeah, I played it back a few times.😆 Ok, on with the rest of the show now. Edit: This is such an all around well-made video, mate. Very honest commentary and enjoyable to watch. To be fair, I didn't expect anything less. High fives to Mr. rolex.dan on the drone work (which looked great, btw).✋✋ Those things are gamechangers in the video world. No doubt the M3 is a great platform to start with, but the mods you've got in mind will transform the car to a higher state and make it even more enjoyable. I like your plan for the car, Danny... seems well thought out. The 4.1 final drive should give instant gratification.😀 Are you installing that at HCR or elsewhere? That's something I've never tackled and I wouldn't mind seeing the process when you do it. For me, the part starting at 25:38 sums it up best.👌👏 Keep enjoying that M3... that's what it's for. Which bushes have you swapped out for poly ones? I'm always a bit worried about doing that on a road car. The E36 has a nice poly/rubber mix which seems to be working quite well.

DannyDC2 done most of them had the car 5 years now the first ones to go was rta ones did the lollipops at same time then when we did the floor I did all the subframe and anti roll bars mainly because they were looking tired mines a 52 plate too. The coilovers was much more different but on softest setting ride is great on road

If you complain about the slow steering on the m3 imagine what its like to live with a stock e36 steering ratio, sometimes I feel like I need 3 hands in some turns haha. I know that the m3 will only get better with you as an owner Dan, you have proven that you have a good taste and that above all you are a driver and you only want your cars to drive better so Im confident of what the m3 will transform into. Just a quick note, when you change your diff you might want to drop the rear subframe and reinforce it, I know you said yours had no cracks but thats because the previous owners didnt do what you will do with the car which is drive it as it was intended to be driven, so if you plan on keeping it for long which it seems like you will just do that to be safe. Anyways nice video as always! Cheers from Spain! That sheep at the end wanted to get it, u know m8

DannyDC2 CLRC5+ are the shit on track. Stock hardware should be more than man enough with them, they don't fade. Only drawback is noise - you'd want to swap them in and out for a TD.

Spot on Danny boy, your plans for the m3 should make it much more pleasurable to own and drive, I'd love to see it on the factory 18's and maybe the alcantara csl steering wheel and seats if your wanting a factory feel
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
I was looking into getting the wheel retrimmed yesterday :) It's on the list.

Didn't no that much about M3's was surprised to find out from this that they have ITB's from factory used to always wonder how they got 345bhp out of it.
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
Yeah all the M3 engines have used ITBs. Pretty impressive 340ish N/A from an inline 6 3.2 in 2001. Honda were at 290 with the NSX at the same time (same displacement).

I also came from an E36 328i, can relate to the differences in the feel for sure!

Good video mate! At 20:45 was this just after Greenhow Hill, I always stop to look at the view. I know the video was more to share your opinion, but seeing as the roads are so class, when you're driving there, have you considered mounting a camera facing forward in the middle of the windscreen? You could have an interior view in the corner, kind of how Matt from TST does. I'm sure I'll run into you soon enough out on these roads.
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
+Matas yeah dude that would be a cool angle. Need to buy another camera really.
@vMaTas147 жыл бұрын
You could probably mount your main camera on suction mounts to either the windscreen or use a headrest mount to face forward and then gopro towards le face. I'm trying to figure out how to mount my DSLR without smashing it to pieces.

Quality video mate. I feel the same way about cars to be honest, function over form. More so as I rapidly approach 30 😂😂 That M3 sounds epic!!!
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have no doubt that getting older has definitely matured my approach to cars. Few years ago and this would already be lowered with a CSL bootlid. Not that I won't do that in the future, just saying I wont be in a rush :)

Cracking video again and your editing is getting better and better👌🏼 as people have said it's your car so just enjoy it, technology has moved things on so why not update the e46 and make it better, every car leaves the factory compromised and set to please the masses, why not make the M3 a car that is tailored to your tastes and driving style.

precisely that mate!

You nailed the bit about stanced cars,and when you live in a time where your cars have to be"stanced" to be cool and fit in...instead of making your car yours ,instead of for the "scene". But well done dan🤙🏻class vid
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
None of my cars have been stanced and they all are fairly popular haha. I guess the Audi is the true stancenation.
@simonowen50897 жыл бұрын
DannyDC2 yeaa and its proves your point of driving and feelin' what the cars doing,instead of most ppl up my end worrying if they gonna scrape on the next speed bump..😂

DannyDC2 e36 is fairly stanced 😉. More importantly great video as always 👍

Great honest review Dan, I'm currently in the same position as you, standard car but can't help that somethings need to change. Seats and brakes were my biggest concern, I agree full leather seats have no place in a sports performance car, slide all over, made even worse on track as are the brakes. For me the steering seems ok !? Maybe I've just not had anything better? I'll be interested to see what you think of the final drive also. Keep up the good work and enjoy the things you spend your hard earned money on not look after them for someone else!
@dannyDC27 жыл бұрын
I think the steering is just one of those things that once you've had it, it's hard to go back! I'll be posting plenty once the 4.1 goes in, so stay tuned 😁

Where have you been man? Great vid. I've had an e46 M3 for 10 years. Some of the mods you mention. I drive the car becuase I love it. I drive it because I love it and I don't give a stuff about retaining value. I will never sell it. Keep up the good work. I'm going on to your next vid. Cheers

+David McCappin thanks David! I bought some more parts for the M3 today, ordering wheels and tyres on Monday. I'll post an update soon! 😁

Another dc2r and e46 m3 owner here. Dc2r is a lot more involving to drive stock. But the e46 m3 is a more comfy daily. Both are stock. Guess which im taking to the track!

How did the M3 pass it's MOT with the airbag light on, or was that an old clip? 13:44 Also, isn't the traction control 2 stage, if you hold it for 5 seconds you should get an amber hand break light on the dash. It's like that on my 01 330ci.

It's different on the M3. One press and it's off.

Thanks for this video... My 49 year old Dad recently mentioned insurance costs for him on an M3, and said that he wants something more sensible than his '04 Subaru Impreza WRX, maybe an E39 M5... I know right! More sensible! Anyway, were kind of stuck between an E46 M3 or the E39 M5, and this video is helping me choose haha (P.s. We also looked at the E60 M5, but I think my Dad would prefer a manual)

E39 M5 is definitely more of a 'dad car'! :)
