The thing about the SurRon and Talaria is that they fit in this niche 'Goldilocks' zone. They are small enough to easily get away with riding them around on the street like a bicycle, but also have way more power than any "e-bike". The Talaria and SurRon were never meant to be a full fledged or high performance E-Moto. It's cool that they are offering different models - different tools for different jobs - where you can get a more 'motorcycle' machine for more 'motorcycle' use.

Yeah, I just bought a Surron X. It's like the Honda Grom of the dirtbike world. It gives you a totally different experience than with a full-fledged, full-sized moto. With that said, I may get the Ultra Bee as an addition to the stable and not as a replacement for my LBX.

Great video. I currently own the Storm Bee (I call the Storm Beast) and it's gobsmackingly brilliant. I've also got an electric mountain bike (eMTB). Being a greedy bastard, I'd like to get something in between. My beast is awesome but the weight is a thing on very technical trails. Honestly I'd like a electric trials bike but I can't afford the Euro electric trials bikes. I'm hoping to get an Ultra Bee for testing. The Light Bee is simply too small for me at 187cm and 90kg (6'1.5" and 200lbs). The Ultra Bee might hit the sweet spot for me as a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th bike). One odd thing is the passenger footpegs on the Ultra Bee. The max payload is 100kg so both passengers would have to be damn small. I'm almost 100kg (220lbs) alone. I've taken my wife on the back of the Storm Bee a couple of times but it has no passenger footpegs. I've seen kids take their friend on their Light Bee's but this risks breaking the sub-frame which is probably the limiting factor. The power is not.

It sure would be nice if the manufacturers would provide realistic range figures. I doubt 87 miles is even possible if you're going 5 mph. Bottom line is nobody is buying these things to ride insanely slow. My light bee is good for 18-20 miles of off road riding. My Nicot ebeast is good for 20-26 miles.
@northsandiegorc4248 Жыл бұрын
If you actually read the fine print irs 87 miles on flat terrain at 25mph. I would also assume that’s with a smaller adult (120-125lb) if you take 20-30 miles off their estimate that’s still pretty good. Going up in voltage and amp hours is always a plus
@surronsd Жыл бұрын
Recently I got 26 miles and still had 56% left riding around some light hills around 35mph so I could see 45-50 miles being realistic 🤷🏻♂️

If you’re talking battery yes. Suspension, no. The 110 pound bike would handle a bigger person a lot better than a 40 pound bike
@rider652 жыл бұрын
Unsprung weight. Center of Mass. Load transfer, etc. Total combined weight will have different outcomes on performance. Big hits will be better served by stanchion width and damping set up. A heavier fork will tip the scales towards the front of the bike using mx suspensions. MX springs will be higher rates, but that's easy to swap out on either type.
@dansacco19642 жыл бұрын
The rider is dynamic and moves their weight around cushioning impacts with their legs. The bikes mass is just dead weight slamming into things. A rider can preload and unweight with their body. Bike forks will take a serious beating from a heavy bike compared to a heavy rider. Also during a crash the 40lb mtb bike tumbling around wont destroy itself like the 110lb bike with mtb suspension.

My thoughts, two big misses. The first one is the rim size like you said it should be a 21 in the front 18 in the rear. And the second is having an onboard charger on a dirt only motorcycle. How are you going to use it when you're out in the middle of the woods and there's no where to plug in and you're carrying around the extra weight of the charger for no reason. You need to get back to the pits or your vehicle to plug in the only time it makes sense is on a street legal bike where you're riding to a friend's house etc. I think the battery is pretty good just under 4 kilowatt hours.
@electricisbetter2 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's only a good idea if you can remove the charger out of the bike when you want.
@jetrep2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe you're required to tote around the charger...they've simply supplied a location that can conveniently stow the charger if needed. Seems neat to me.

Fairly comparative to a 125. Top speed, etc. Suspension on 125's is 31mm to 32mm, mtb forks are 32 to 38. DH at 40. So not sure what your complaining about. Valving? Easy to revalve & change spring rates on mtb forks. Travel? Roughly the same. What mtb forks have you ridden on? For the money, not worth it. Honda 125 at about 3500. Two stroke is way less maintenance than an electric bike. Too many potential problems. Overall, the ultra is a great looking bike that performs well, but is too expensive imo. Will probably go for at least 5k if not more. Even the Light at 3800 is a bad value compared to a 125.
