My thoughts on the Taurus Judge Home Defender.

Look up Gun Sam's testing of the federal handgun buck. With a sub 3inch barrel, the buckshot spread was only 6 inches at 25 yards! Also did nearly 20 inches in ballistics gel with each buckshot being .36 caliber. That's basically a firing squad with every trigger pull in handgun form.

My Governor goes out with 3 of the Federal 410 000 in the front,,,3 Winchester .45 Colt in the back...15 feet,, the buckshot stays together like The Blue Angels.. Jerry Miculek tested it in slow motion in an upload called "The Governor Returns"....very interesting.

While I don't think its useless, I also don't think it'd be a top choice for many. If someone already has ammo in those calibers for other guns, but feel the length of a 410 shotgun or 45 colt rifles may be too much for some who want or need to do some movement or home clearing (to go get to kids etc) this having a bit more barrel makes the 410 shot shells hit much harder and keep much tighter groupings. This is actually a flashback to some of the earliest repeating shotguns, spencer and roper who made the first american pump shotgun in 1882. Roper of spencer and roper also had a revolving shotgun design in 12 ga and 16 ga.. it predated their first pump. Cool history. Id take this over a standard taurus judge for home defense since you get the 2nd hand support up front.. tbh tho id rather just hunker down in place and use a full sized, 12 ga, stocked shotgun for home defense.. but i wouldn't feel under gunned with one of these judges. Itll drop at least 2 if not 3 intruders with relative ease and speed.

I disagree about the judges usefulness as a home defense gun. Especially for an inexperienced shooter. I think with the right round like PDX1 Defender. It’s very lethal at 5-7 feet. They are point and fire and the spread is probably useful in a high stress situation. I bought one for my wife as a night stand gun for those very reasons. The gun in this video looks to be a parts bin gun. Part judge. Part raging hunter.

Most people that use shot shell for home defense want a very tight spread to the point of using flight control buckshot. The spread on this is too great to be safe even at short indoor range.

@@SlimCowboy again I disagree. I told my wife to unload 3 shots into a intruder. It’s just me and her in the home. No children to worry about. Walking into a cloud of lead will stop anyone. I’m an ex army ranger. So I wouldn’t choose a judge as my go to house gun for myself. I don’t know your experience level with firearms? But for the untrained. I can’t think of a much better weapon than a revolver. Especially a revolver that fires multiple projectiles with a single pull of the trigger.

I want one, but not for home defense. I just enjoy reloading and shooting 45LC. I've also got some brass 410 shells that I'm going to get around to reloading one of these days. My wife has loved her circuit judge that she got about a decade ago. If I do get one, I'd probably mount a bipod on the front like the original Ruger Chargers and add either a pistol scope or a low mag prism sight.

I imagine if someone was living in a 450 SQ FT studio, this may be a good choice for personal protection. You should have enough energy to stop an intruder and you may not over-penetrate walls.

Well!!!!! Go watch some testing!!!! After watching testing and realizing that the spread on that thing is terrible and then go listen to anyone talk about Home or self-defense with a shotgun, realizing that people want as tight as spread as possible. Then realize that that thing is a dangerous liability!!!!! One of the most sought after 12 gauge rounds for defensive use is federal flight control, and the reason it’s so sought after is because it’s designed to minimize spread as much as possible keeping the pellets close together.

I would never take a ruger 10-22 over this for home defense... .22lr is nothing in comparison to 410 or 45 colt for defense. Is it kinda a gimmick? Yeah, but it's still more reliable than 22lr, regardless of shot patterns.

Good grief at least hold the gun once. You wasted five and a half minutes with nothing other than assumptions and suppositions. I’ve held the gun. I’ve shot the gun. For home defense - and as a truck gun, I think it absolutely could be a good choice.

If it had iron sights, I'd take it on the trail. I'm looking for a good back carry, over the shoulder draw gun. I like the 13" barrel better than the 10" on the Raging Hunter, and I like the stock better, too -- it's a perfect little sawed off shotgun. And I like the variety of ammo, and the chunky dependability of a revolver. I wish it held 6 and shot acp clips, for the reloading speed, mostly. But as is, it's a good Jack-of-all-Trades, apocalypse gun. But it needs iron sights -- anything more seems like overkill. (A laser would be practical, but also really stupid, and putting things on the rails screws up the over the shoulder draw.) I wonder if I could put a longer barrel and short stock on a S&W Governor?

Couldn't agree more on this, what a gimmick. Youd be better off with pretty much anything else (like you said) a regular pistol/revolver or an actual shotgun. If you take home defense seriously this shouldn't be anywhere near let alone on your list of things to look at.
