😮It's a sad commentary on a sport when "fans" tune in to see someone not participating in the event. How about less yapping and more live coverage. The need to sell ads to pay for all this only leads to less coverage. IMO there is entirely too much dialogue in ann sports coverage.

The way I understand it, NBC wants to mitigate the increased cost of the new tv contract by having the booth call the races from the new NASCAR studios in Charlotte, and that was a non-negotiable for Junior, irrespective of the money. Bottom line: Amazon and Discovery were willing to meet his demand, that he get to call the race from the track. I applaud him for that.
@Brodozer39
@Brodozer39 7 ай бұрын
Yea, I highly doubt any of this revolves around money. Hell Dale didn’t even want to know how much Hendricks was willing to pay him to drive for them. He’s never been about the money, and every single part of his life since he was 14 years old has proved that. He’s strictly about the racing, he uses the media and the spot light to focus it all on the racing and watching the race live in person. There’s no way he will ever call a race or participate in any way with a race without being at the track.

The first time I was able to watch Race Day live was at Michigan Speedway. It was the last season before the CoT went into effect. I was just as excited to see Kenny and Jimmy as I was the actual race. Kenny was awesome and engaged with the crowd a lot, and I met Jimmy as he was coming out of the port-a-shitter smoking a big cigar. He was adjusting his pants and went "AH YEAH!". The memories from Raceday that morning are some of my most cherished memories. I spent that day with my dad, who has since passed. We always watched Raceday together on television before the race, so actually being there was a dream come true for both of us. He talked about that day, and Jimmy coming out of the shitter, right up until dementia robbed him of the memories. I know you hear it all the time Kenny, but I mean this from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Jr. Got screwed along with all of Sr.'s previous children by Teresa the gold digging troll. Jr.'s stats don't accurately reflect his abilities in my opinion. A simple cuss word at Talladega cost him a championship, Teresa caused dei to implode which was supposed to be left to jr., which severely impacted his success. Let's be honest, he was never as successful as his dad, and probably wouldn't have been. However Ty Norris, the Eury's, anybody close to Sr. Say that he told them it was to be Jr.'s in the end. Jr. Went on to be the most influential personality in NASCAR and Teresa became the most hated personality in NASCAR. How ironic!!!!

The best part of going to the June races at Michigan from 2006-2013 was standing outside the grandstands and watching NASCAR RaceDay Built By The Home Depot. Then they stopped doing all that stuff and going to the races got boring. They need to bring back all the activities outside the tracks. It got so bad at Michigan that they barely even had any merchandise trucks outside the track. I used to look forward to just walking around checking things out. They had bands playing, motorcycles flippin’, the Home Depot stage, etc. The decline of all these things is part of the reason for the decline of NASCAR. iRacing needs to set up simulators at the tracks too.

We do know streaming services are growing, and if it's Amazon, they made the best choice to draw viewers. If Dale is the lead reporter, that's great. Hopefully, they surround him with skilled field reporters, too. I do hope Amazon doesn't out price the average fan or family with their fee to view the races. Thanks for your insight into Dale's move.

Dale Jr. brings his experience and expertise to the broadcast. He is also one of the most popular drivers in the history of NASCAR. Those things make Dale Jr. a credible commentator on the race television coverage. All of that comes with a price for the race coverage network. I am certain that Dale Jr. has a standard that he is committed to in the race broadcast booth. He wants control of what he is going to say in the broadcast and how or when he is going to say it. The current network has a standard they want for those in the broadcast booth and they have demands that they expect to be followed. I agree with Kenny, it’s about demands on both sides. Dale Jr. has chosen to move on. Best wishes for him. JMO

I still have the pictures I believe those were the days we had a lot of fun together. We saw you multiple times after that you’re always a great guy to us, so are you at Watkins Glen multiple times, we still have the same campsite at Watkins Glen since 1998. Best part of Jr at NBC was them sending him to the Indy500. His excitement and discussions with Steve Letarte were refreshing. He was blown the f away, had an incredible time sharing something that big in racing ... yet, he'd experienced it himself.

@@ElliottNest41 You're right. What's notable is where they positioned the NBC box is right at pit exit, the highest speed at the end of the main straight ... diving into turn one. It's extraordinarily impressive right there, the intensity, the sound, the smell, as they dive into a 90° left turn at 240mph. I've been at the track countless times since the 60's. I try to take first timers right there at the gate, to experience the full effect. It's dramatic. Similarly, I prefer row one, turn one ... on race day. The intensity.

Herm, that's about as diplomatic and fair of an explanation that a person could do. Well done. My personal opinion is that NBC never has and never will fully understand NASCAR. Jr. is the guy you build a brand around. There's another saying about marriages when the luster wears off. It's: "If you don't love your wife, somebody else will." Someone else is going to be loving Dale Jr.

Herm I can relate, I did the track service for the Rolex series, Porsche challenge and several other road race series. Living out of a suitcase and in a hotel 48 of 52 weeks gets old. Not to mention I was a little wilder back then and the nightlife got to me. Yes I made some amazing friends, met some really famous people from Brian Johnson of ac/DC to playboy models. I wouldn't go back and change it, it made me appreciate life and family so much more. You probably wouldn't remember me, I worked on the B12 weaver car for years but we have crossed paths many times.
