I only recently discovered your channel, but I've been working my way through your videos ever since; a period of a couple of days now. As a rider who can currently only dream of being able to travel and ride the trails that you ride, see the sights that you see... I'm happy to help! I've just finalized my $3 a month pledge to your Patreon, and I'll likely increase the amount in a month or so! Keep up the good work, man; I love this channel! Thanks for taking the time and putting forth the effort to film, edit and upload your rides for us all. :D

Been a subscriber for quite a while now. Having known that you actually get profit from comments and likes I would have commented and liked all your videos way earlier! Even though I'm from The Netherlands and will probably never see the trails you ride, I still love watching your videos man. It inspires me to get on the bike and shred the trails ;) Sadly I broke one of my carpal bones (triquetral bone) three weeks ago and still can't ride, but your videos really give me the urge to get back on the bike as soon as possible. Keep up the great work, I know a lot of people will support you. Actually I'm sure they will, seeing your subscriber number grow with the day. Greetings from The Netherlands

Looking at your views, I think a lot of people are like me, while there is some interest in far off trails, getting honest and meaningful feedback on bikes is solid gold. It's no secret that bikes are getting more expensive and the best some of us can get is a parking lot test, usually of a frame that isn't the right size, before we have to commit to $6K+ purchase? Insane. Look at your views, the new Enduro, the Hightower, the Trek, they are 5X more than your trail rides. What you're missing and what the Interweb is missing is shootouts. Put together 3 or 4 bikes from the same category, spend a week on the same trail and rail them back to back to back. Sure, give the highlights but also the negatives. Example, I had looked at the specs of that Trek plus bike and thought the bottom bracket looked too low then I caught a comment in your ride about all the pedal strikes you were experiencing.Sure BikeMag does their annual thing but each bike gets an individual video and the reviews are pretty watered down. But because you don't have corporate sponsorship that you have to worry about, you can give real feedback! Do this and you will take over the Internet.
@bkxc8 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, I think this would be a fantastic thing to do, and eventually something I'd love to take on. I'll need to get some buy-in from the bike companies where they would actually send me a bike for three days. Out of pocket something like that would cost $450 per bike!

Hi Brian, I see stumbled across you when I was looking for a Hightower review just a couple of weeks ago. It was so nice to see a good vid without some run of the mill trash indie track behind it. I was just quite taken with the plain speaking, bit of swearing and if necessary, a bit of slating for high end gear. I ended watching most of the stuff, in awe of the sunshine and trails. I occasionally buy a bike mag, but sod that, I'm more than happy to pass on a couple of quid for someone to live a bit of a dream. I think fair play for going balls out, quitting the he job and giving us something that is honestly great to watch. Good luck to you pal.

Glad you are sticking with this full time, Joey...er Brian. I'm not sure how KZbin monetization works, but why don't you use the the click-ads that pop mid-video or the 'You can skip after X seconds' commercials before your videos start? They are annoying and I never actually look to see what they are advertising, but they are easy enough to mindlessly click past.
@bkxc8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Navarre! I definitely have the pre-roll video ads going and it made a big difference in my ad revenue. It feels too cheesy to add those "click to kill" pop up ads. With enough patrons on Patreon I won't have to worry about it.

You could also get deals with companies like CRC, Jenson and the like. See if you can work a deal with them to offer your readers a special deal with a promo code and stuff like that. When posting up reviews on gear and stuff post up your affiliate link and look at your partner sites and see who is offering the best deal for the reviewed product so your viewers know they are getting the best deal. Just gotta make sure to promote your long form review on the videos and mention the affiliate link...be very open about it and say that by purchasing product through that link it helps you keep the videos coming and all that. I have run a few sites (The Mountain Bike Life was the last one) and ethical monetization was the hardest thing to do, I think honest gear review videos with affiliate links can really pay off. Look at a site called the Wirecutter and check out how they do it....no ad revenue the whole place is run by affiliate links! (I actually am looking at starting a review site run like this...shhh.) Check out Gary Vaynerchuck too, He is pretty amazing with social media and making sure that you give more than you ask for....some good shit. I know you like Casey Niestat and they have done a few videos together...good shit right there.

Thanks for all the good info man! I do have affiliate links and promo codes going strong on the videos about gear. I just haven't done any gear in a while since I've been out travelling. Gotta get some of those videos mixed in again.

highly recommend promoting yourself on pinkbike. if you could get yourself on that main page you could really boost your account here. log your rides with a little caption and dope photo, stick em all together, and give your little "shred diary" to the guys at pinkbike- they'll love it. hope you succeed dude, I love seeing guys make a living out of what they love

Thanks so much, man! I definitely need to get Pinkbike into my rotation. People have told me to do it before and I haven't taken action. Thanks for the love!

Had a little issue with the minimum so I just set a max donation per month. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing those Colorado videos! Those future trips sound awesome too!

Thanks bud! I switched it over to $3/month instead of the 25¢ thing. ALWAYS something.
