Emma, the dahlia you did not know the name of is called Blue Bayou and its an anemone dahlia. This was the first one i ever grew on my allotment. They are addictive and i now have 56 different ones. Unfortunately the badger got to the Blue Bayou and dug it up so i managed to save a shoot this year and its small but growing in a pot until i can plant it out again on the allotment. Shame they have no smell though.

Well done Emma, go the self-publish route (or is that root haha). Publishers have always had too much influence on writers. Maybe you could use the magazine to write an article on the dificulties of home gardeners breaking into the book world? Anyway, your garden is looking great, and your love and creativity shows. Keep going, and don't worry about not knowing stuff, because a lot of the "horticulture" literature is based on a lot unproved "facts". The most important thing any of us to do for our gardens and allotments is to look after the soil by not digging every inch of it. Compost and mulching looks after the soil. Take a loo at how forests grow. X

Those canes are an eye injury waiting to happen Emma. You can use a range of things. Tops from fabric conditioner bottles, pro-biotic bottles, cat milk bottles and one of my favourites the plastic balls that you use in a kiddies ball pit. Just poke a hole in the bottom and stick it on the cane. They come in all colours if you are wanting to colour match.

White flowers stand for purity, and innocence; yellow flowers represent friendship, pink flowers are expressions of being interested;,red flowers represent love. All colours have their own particular meanings. So, when ladies are given flowers, the colours of the flowers can tell them a lot about how the one who gives them flowers think about them

I know a couple of people who have written books, I was in one in my industry and used to write for loads of magazines too. Everyone self published apart from 1, and she gets practically nothing from the publisher as they have no interest in her book now, shame too as its awesome. Self publish is my advice from I hear and see from friends, take the leap, go for it.

I never knew you were writing a book and think I've been watching you since the beginning of this year. I started gardening in 2021, I had a stint one year 18 years prior trying to garden on my balcony, I recall buying loads of seeds and tools and bags of stone posing as compost, and attempting to grow a courgette, and it flowering and nothing else, no courgette. I thought the interest in gardening died, I certainly didn't buy anymore than a few succulents as houseplants or try to grow anything again until 2021, yet, one of my favourite authors years after that attempt, when I would have forgotten I once tried to garden, was Michael Pollan and his books A Place of My Own and The Botany of Desire. I say all that to say, a book well marketted and written will sell. You can't keep me out of my garden which I have only had since 2022 after decades on a top floor balcony yet, when I never would have said I have an interest in gardening or botany, because I didn't, my favourite author was a man who was then writing specifically about his garden shed and his plants. I think the self help approach is clever, it occured to me a few months ago that even weeding in the garden is my meditation.

I think You’ll find that the buddliea is not bred in three colours but in fact three plants that they plant together in a pot, so maybe the other colours have died or maybe you just need to give the whole bush a good cut back, I think they flower in new wood, so next year you might see the others colours back.

Hello Emma, I have been following your channel for some time now. I find your filming style to be very unique and refreshing. I have always appreciated the imagination, thought and intentionality of your videos to be rather brilliant. I do wish some of the magazines you write for would be available in the US. I am feeling quite confident your writing would be as good as your writing is. I would encourage you to continue pursuing the publishers with a refocused approach. Having a new angle and focus you could find the right group to take you on. I have faith in your ability to bring a quality product to the meeting table and I would never doubt this would not be your best effort. I will pray for you during this season that your dreams can be blessed and realized. Also for your family to understand this journey of yours and that they can support you as they are able. Knowing that family is the single most important part of the journey and being sure there is time to make intentional memories no matter the state of the journey. Peace and blessings, Steven

@@RoseMary-vs3io Hi Rosemary. Blight not the issue. I did try caterpillar control with some success in the first year, however they were back far worse in the second and nothing really seemed to touch them. I believe the problem I had was the hedge was too tightly manicured to allow penetration of the treatments! I perhaps could have cut back and let regrow but this would be a on going issue hence the final solution.

There’s nothing wrong with going the self-publishing route. I love reading about gardening and essays so I am pledging that however you publish, I will buy and read. Publishing, unfortunately, is a business and if they can’t make the numbers make sense, they’re not gonna do it. You have an audience already which is a plus. However you publish, I’m sure we’ll all be talking your book up to our friends and families as well.

Maybe ponder a title%topic change to "small space growing/gardening" - very few folks will have access to an allotment, but nearly everyone will have access to some space, so maybe ammend the target market to those able to use containers/tubs/pots/tiny gardens/gardens as well as allotments. I've found growing very therapeutic for years, and from what you've said your book could be a good self help book, so the process of growing is the focus rather than where the reader could grow ?
