In my old scrapbooking days we would sharpen our craft punches by punching aluminum foil. I have found this works well on all my dull punches.

@@squairdplansI would actually stay away from large grit. It might end up doing more harm than good to your punch. I know you said you tried aluminum foil, but was curious how long you punched the aluminum foil for? I ended up having to punch through the foil for a longer period of time than I though I would have to. And maybe try a thicker mil on the foil? Sandpaper is great also, but I would stick with a fine to medium grit. Maybe try the foil again, and punch holes for longer. Like I usually do it while I’m watching a movie or something 😂. I’ll sit down with all my dull instruments and punch or cut the foil for the length of the movie or show (that way I’m not really noticing how long it’s taking) and then by the time I’m done and go to cut a regular medium I use, there is a noticeable difference. I also wanted to suggest making googling professional sharpening service company near your home? I used to work at Joann’s back in the day and we had a company that would come in and pick up fabric scissors for customers and for the ones we used at the store to cut fabric. They bring them all back a day or two later freshly sharpened and cut through fabrics like butter 😂. (I know you probably weren’t looking for that extreme for sharpening a punch, but as planner girls, we know how expensive some of these tools can be.) For example, my Levenger heavy duty punch and my Gingher sewing scissors…I think I paid a good 80 bucks for those, but that’s also where I learned never to use sewing scissors for cutting paper 😂 And they were totally worth the splurge when I was cutting fabric all day. HUGE DIFFERENCE! Loved the video!!

@@SharaMcBride You are probably right about the heavier grit. Maybe I should do a bit more punching with the fine grit paper and follow up with heavy weight foil to see if I can get back in perfect working order. It was only a $30 purchase…otherwise I’d definitely look into the sharpening service you mentioned. I’ve seen them at my Joanns once or twice a year but never looked into it. Thanks for the info!

I love my We-R-Memory Keepers corner punch. I’ve put it through the wringer and it’s still doing well. It is also lighter weight than my other punches and travels well. I wish they would have put a plastic cover on the bottom to catch the scraps. I punch with mine upside down to minimize any mess, but thicker items requiring more force will have the piece flying off the punch.

I’ve seen that punch and it looks like a more heavy duty option. If I need an upgrade, I will definitely check it out. 👍

Thank you so much for the Frixion Knock Zone pen suggestion! This new version comes with a darker ink and the new refills have a silver barrel, unlike the less pigmented, clear, old ones. Unfortunately they’re not available on Amazon but other online shops. 💙💙💙

Interesting. I didn’t see any difference in the ink between the metal barrel refills and plastic ones I always get. Where are you shopping? Jet Pens?

Yoseka covered the new Frixion ink in a recent weekly video. It’s supposed to be significantly darker and the new refills fit the old pen.

I own the corner clipper (last item). It's compact and useful, but you need to have it on a firm surface to work properly when trying to use it or else it is prone to not cutting all the way through your paper(s) and leaving jagged corner clips. I have a cotton mat on my desk and it is thin but still hinders using the corner clipper when pushing down on it. Just something to keep in mind.

You can punch emery paper to sharpen punches. Emery paper is a very fine sandpaper. Just FYI. Enjoyed your video.

Thank you for sharing these with us. I appreciate the work that goes into making videos. I am new to disc planning however years ago I did quite a bit of scrapbooking and I find this style of planning fun to be getting creative again but also it’s helping me to use my planner better. With regards to sharpening your punch, have you tried using aluminium foil and waxed kitchen paper. I have used them successfully to sharpen some punches I had for scrap booking. I punch multiple times through the foil at double thickness and then I did the same but not as many times with the waxed paper.
