My top 10 closest calls in almost 10 years of longboarding.
REGARDING THE LAST CLIP
What Happened: While on a production shoot we had one of the crew members drive down before us and block off the road for one minute at a time while we skated down the mountain. We were rushing to beat the sunset and get as much footage as possible while the lighting was good so our communication about where exactly the car was supposed to be blocking off the road was subpar. As you see in the video, the result is us having to swerve off to the side of the road to avoid hitting the car that was parked roughly 200 feet closer than it should've been. We never go into the opposite lane on a blind turn unless we have walkie talkies and/or a spotter letting us know the road is clear
How It Could've Been Prevented: Taking the time to drive down the road one more time and show the crew member exactly where to park versus telling them from the top where to park would have entirely prevented this situation. Bad things can happen when people start rushing so when safety is the top priority, it is incredibly important to make sure everyone is on the same exact page. Blessed that everyone in the situation was all good and can move on and learn from it.

@@jonmichaelmcmanus5285 to my understanding, they had a crew member go ahead and block off the road so that they could be safe and cars wouldn’t be driving past them at high speeds while they’re longboarding. And the car that went ahead to block the road was parked closer to the start of their leg than it should have been, along with being right around that corner where they couldn’t see it

@@aurboda rolling is good if you cant dissipate the energy another way, like if someone runs u over or you fall from a high, or if you have no gear that can protect you from burns and bruises (like if u go bare handed or with plain clothes, but in these cases where they have protection pads which allaws them to slide without any injury it's the preferred method. And even without gear, sliding could be preferred cuz it's more controlled that rolling it out.

Also you assume that being determined means you can't have fun ahaha. My comment was my opinion, just as you have yours. The determination to get back on the board and continue his route is what I took from the video, whether that's for fun or to reach the goal of getting through a challenging mountain pass it doesn't matter. I think pro longboarding takes alot of determination. You can be determined to win a basketball match with friends and still have fun. If you guess differently that's fine, but chill lol!

So true. I love skateboarding and all, but I always wondered how so many people can support and cheer these ignorant guys in search for their "ultimate adrenaline kick" up. They think they have everything under control but they will never have. Beside of the facts you mentioned and that the car would be totally damaged, the board, the person itself or other parts that are moving in highspeed could definitely kill the driver who might also have children in the backseats that would loose a parent then. Doing something like that should be more than just illegal on used roads.. If this kind of stuff should be alright, then you could also simply justify a smoking person next to a fuel pump.
